If you search the internet for Christian views on spirituality, you will find a lot of controversy regarding certain doctrines and well-known T.V. preachers. Its really amazing that so many who profess to love God’s Word, the Bible, to love Jesus, to be in touch with the Spirit of Truth can have such major disagreements on so many issues and people. Somewhere someone is getting deceived. And if you think that only YOU cannot be deceived, you are already deceived. Jesus said, “Take heed that no one deceives you.” (Matthew 24:4).
Some say that God never tells us to choose the right thing, because He knows He hasn’t given us a free will. But how about
“choose this day whom you will serve … but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord … you are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD for yourselves, to serve Him.” (Joshua 24:15,22) ?
Some teach us that it is impossible for us to obey the commandments of God.
As we live our life, it is not so much whether we should choose to do something “good” versus something “evil”. It is not a question of how well we follow our own ethical systems. We all have rules that we use to govern our behavior. Some of these rules are derived from God’s revelation, and others may not be. But the primary question is not whether we choose “good” or “evil”. It is whether we choose “God” or “evil”.
Before getting into this highly difficult subject I want to tell you the practical conclusion on salvation. The fact is that God knew that all would sin except Jesus Christ, and that man would not be able to save himself from either the guilt or the power of sin. That is why it was established before the foundation of the world that Jesus would be sent by God the Father to come as a man and die on the cross to take the punishment, guilt and power of sin upon Himself. It is only through the cross we can be saved.
