Why Teaching and Knowledge is So Important

I am on a search for wisdom and some of the things I am realizing are very basic, yet I think they are easily ignored.

The Book of Proverbs in the Bible is God’s book of wisdom. Written by a man who at one time had more wisdom than any man who had ever lived, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, there is a lot there for us to learn and consider.

It says, in Proverbs 1:22 ” How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?” (KJV)

A lot of us are WAY TOO COMFORTABLE in our ignorance of many things, so every now and then, God permits pain to come into our lives, to let us know something is wrong.

“There is nothing so costly as ignorance”.

Ignorance of financial matters means the vast majority of the world is forced to work in an occupation they don’t really enjoy.

Ignorance of healthy lifestyle principles, the importance of good nutrition can cost you your health, and many years of your life.

Ignorance of relationship principles – such as love, thoughtfulness, humility and so forth cost many their marriages, their families and their friends and leave them with bitterness and regret.

But ignorance of God’s Word and eternal things can cost you your eternity.

This is the ultimate ignorance of fools. Though you be well informed in all things that pertain to this life only, and become rich, famous, appreciated, satisfied, loved and live a long life here, if you fail to know and appreciate God and what the cross of Jesus Christ really means for you, then you will be an eternal loser.

“What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?”

Nothing. It would be as if everything was a loss from start to finish for that poor soul.

God is a Teacher. He tells us not to despise knowledge. The best knowledge is knowledge you feel in your heart as well as knowing in your mind. But all knowledge that is relevant to important goals is very valuable. One very important piece of knowledge is to know WHAT it is God wants YOU as an individual to learn, know and understand.

Proverbs 2:6 says, “For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.”

If God is teaching knowledge and understanding, we need to be learning it. Then we can imitate God, and teach it ourselves. God can even teach through us, if He lives in us by the Holy Spirit. When God teaches it really adds value to people’s lives, if only they will receive it.

There is coming a judgment so severe on the wicked. It says in Proverbs 1:29, “For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD”. This is spoken of those whose destruction comes as a whirlwind, upon whom comes distress and anguish.

Do you know from personal experience what DISTRESS and ANGUISH feel like? These things are virtually promised to those who will not listen to God and his wisdom.

Natural Wisdom and Knowledge

Many times God teaches the natural things first, then the spiritual.

“However, that which is spiritual is not first, but that which is natural, then that which is spiritual. ” (1 Corinthians 15:46)

So we there is nothing wrong with approaching this subject from a natural point of view as well.

I wish that Christians would become wiser and help others to be so in the natural things of life. Some of the worst advice I have ever received concerning natural things has come from Christians. Brothers and sisters, we need to be more diligent to get the right knowledge, especially in financial matters. There is a world to reach and no generation of Christians has had more opportunities to do it than our own. If I had a few million dollars I could put TV into tens of millions of homes continuously for an entire year! Reaching the world takes money, resources and hearts that are on fire for God’s purposes. And it also takes godly skill and knowledge.

We need to work hard at getting the best knowledge. The trouble is, many of us like to settle down in comfort and laziness as soon as we have enough knowledge to assure us of a reasonably comfortable existence with our families, and with what we think is a good fire insurance policy with God. We don’t always maintain the diligence through which God blessed us in the first place.

The consequences of all this can be tragic.

We are stewards of what we have learned. Sometimes the greatest good we can do for others is to teach them. And we should be willing to invest at least time, and sometimes money, to get the best advice, so that we ourselves can be wise.

This is why I am involved in television and internet ministry. Its why I am going to get more involved in video production than I ever have been. The knowledge we have can truly revolutionise the world, and plant something in people’s lives that will carry on for eternity.

Please don’t be lazy with the talents you have. Share your knowledge, share your experience, even for a fee if need be, and see how God can bless your life as you become a channel of blessing for others.
