Recently I have been struggling within my thoughts about speaking in tongues. I pray and I wonder to myself what does the word of God really say about all this. The only way I truly know to find the answers to pray and the search within the bible. My main questions I had to ask the Holy spirit were;
1. What is praying in tongues?
2. Is praying in tongues a real prayer language between someone and God?
I went to 1 Cor chapter 13. 1 Cor. 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. KJV. 1 Cor. 13:1 I may speak in different languages, whether human or even of angels. But if I don’t have love, I am only a noisy bell or a ringing cymbal. ERV. This scripture tells me that I will be able to speak in tongues of men and angels. Very nice, so, confirmation there is such thing as speaking in different tongues. Even an unknown tongue, because none of us are angels.
1 Cor. 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. KJV. 1Co 14:2 I will explain why. Those who have the gift of speaking in a different language are not speaking to people. They are speaking to God. No one understands them–they are speaking secret things through the Spirit. My second question was answered as well. When we are speaking in tongues, whether it be a tongue of angels or man, we are actually speaking directly to God. The scripture even says that we are not speaking to man but to God.
My questions were simply answered today about speaking and tongues. I will pray and take my studies deeper as I go along. However, I just had 2 simple questions and found the answers rather quickly with the help of the Holy Spirit. If you are having questions about certain things you here from man or feel you don’t understand, I suggest pray and ask for God to help you. Then start reading in the bible. The answers are there for anyone who will stop and take the time to listen to the word of God. Even now I know that if I even take the time, the holy spirit will help me pray in tongues, for it is a gift of the spirit. However, I have to be willing to stop what I’m doing and spend the time doing so. Also, taking the time to learn helps as well. It’s not enough to read a book that someone else read. Yes, helps us understand things. However, we all have to remember we to have to put forth our effort to have a personal relationship with god to. And spend our time researching the bible for our own selves.
I even suggest that you don’t take my word for this as truth. Look up the scriptures for yourself and share what you learn with others to. GBU all, Barbie
