Proverbs 11 Prayers and Confessions

Lord, you declare that false balances and unjust weights are an abomination to yourself. So, I solemnly commit to do business without cheating or deceiving others, or representing things to be other than the way they really are. I pray you will find delight in the way I do business, in Jesus’ name, Amen. (vs 1)

Lord, open my eyes to the value of lowliness, for “with the lowly is wisdom”. Give me this wisdom. At the same time, I reject the coming of pride, which brings shame. (vs 2)

Lord, so work in me that you will consider that I am upright, and have integrity. So let me be guided aright. Deliver me from transgression, sin and all that tends to destruction. (vs 3).

Since “riches do not profit in the day of wrath” I do not put my trust in riches. I trust you Lord for both the gift of righteousness and the power to live righteously, that I may be delivered from all death – be it spiritual, physical or eternal.
(vs 4)

Lord, I commit to doing the right thing, in your strength. Show me how to live a blameless life. Deliver me from all wickedness. I know that “the wicked will fall by his own wickedness”. (vs 5)

Lord, I am believing for deliverance because of the righteous life you are enabling me to live, as an upright man. I reject ungodly lusts. I reject unfaithfulness to you Lord. I stay clear of the traps of sin. (vs 6)

The righteous is delivered from trouble. I am righteous in Christ and value righteous living, and so I am delivered from trouble. The trouble comes to the wicked instead. I fear God and shun wickedness because it leads to trouble. (vs 8)

I pray the Lord delivers me from the mouth of hypocrites. I thank God the Father that through knowledge I will be delivered. (vs 9).

I am righteous in Christ and when it goes well with me, the city rejoices. So it is good for things to go well with me. (vs 10)

The city is exalted by the blessing of the upright. I bless the city I live in, and I also anticipate blessing because God teaches me in the ways of uprightness. (vs 11)

I do not despise my neighbour, I am a man of understanding and I just hold my peace when I don’t like what someone is doing. (vs 12)

I am of a faithful spirit and I conceal a matter, unlike a talebearer. (vs 13)

In the multitude of counselors there is safety and I seek out and receive counsel from God-fearing people wise in their domain of expertise. (vs 14)

I will not go surety (guarantor) for someone else, because people who do this will surely suffer. I hate being surety (guarantor) and therefore I am secure. (vs 15)

My wife is a gracious women and retains honor. (vs 16)

I am a merciful man and do good to my own soul. I am not cruel. (vs 17)

I do not do deceptive work. I sow righteousness and will have a sure reward. (vs 18)

Righteousness leads to life. I pursue righteousness, not evil, for he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death. (vs 19)

Those who are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the Lord, but those who are blameless in their ways are his delight. I choose by God’s grace to be blameless in my ways. (vs20)
