Pastor, believers attacked in Bhilai
Bhilai: Pastor Babula Chandra Paik of Christian Church was attacked during Sunday worship service in Bhilai of Madhya Pradesh on 5 August 2007.
Around 50 Hindu fanatics belonging to Bajrang Dal entered the church armed with lathis and sticks and started raising slogans against the congregation. They were protesting against the Pastor’s alleged forcible conversion activities in the area.
The fanatics led by Rajesh Thabre and Sudeep Banerjee, leaders of Bajrang Dal, dragged the Pastor out and manhandled him. They also beat up two elderly believers, with one of them being treated for injuries. They damaged the church property and destroyed copies of the Bible.
The Pastor said he was only conducting the worship services for the Christians in the area. “The allegations made by the culprits are baseless and fabricated,” he said.
Later the Pastor along with his church members lodged an FIR (No 63) against the attackers. They have been booked under Sections 147, 148,149, 443, 427, 295 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code. No arrests have been made so far.
