My story, Siler City NC, 12.05.10
Well I’ve been called to get a local version of this wonderful work going and my hope is that once begun cyberspace will be filled with countless wonderful examples of faith changing our lives for the better. Years ago I struggled with faith as many do particularly hard for me was Christmas time. I suffered from seasonal depression, quite severely in fact a debilitating and destructive illness that affects millions worldwide.
One particularly bad episode led me to search out, and this may seem corny “the true meaning of Christmas”. Funny that the memory of a “Charlie Brown Christmas” would pull me out of my depression and allow me once again to experience the wonder of the most sacred gift to all of humanity.
The words of Linus still bring tears to my eyes as a beacon to what it’s really all about.
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold,[a] an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
14 “ Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
…and that’s what Christmas is all about Charlie Brown”
These immortal words literally saved my life and in this season of joy I am honored to share my story of hope.
