Foreboding tremors of war are being felt with increasing frequency and intensity in this world. The war in the unseen realm is once again about to spill over into the physical world. But who is paying attention? It is reminiscent of the days before WW2, in the late 1930s, when those with perception picked up on the signs that warned them of the war that would soon reach them and the whole world, while others went about their lives largely unconcerned, only to find themselves unprepared when that war engulfed the entire planet. We should learn from this example from history.

Why Me?

I’ve always believed that God had a special purpose and place for me in this life but now I’m not so sure. I’m 44 and can rest knowing I have done all that I could to do God’s will and succeed in this life. I Guess God didn’t have bigger plans for me after all and just wanted me to do nothing to better my life. I don’t understand this part of my life. My life has been a disaster filled with betrayal, injustice, rejection, poverty and grief. I’m not sure God cares or even exists at this point. I use to believe but now I have major doubts and questions about everything and everybody.

The quest of a person’s life defines that person, who he or she is. And every human being is on a quest whether they know it or not. This is because God has made us this way. He has put into our hearts a dissatisfaction with life lived solely of ourselves, and we will not be rid of this dissatisfaction until we find him as the true source and purpose of our lives.

“He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end” (Eccl. 3:11 NIV).

Man’s Place in the Cosmos

It is one of the basic questions of life that all human beings must answer before dying, or else die a fool with a wasted life. The question can be posed in many forms: Why am I here? Why do I exist? What is my place in the universe or cosmos? Some pay no attention to the question and therefore are indeed fools when they die: “Are not the cords of their tent pulled up, so that they die without wisdom?” (Job 4:21 NIV).

The Folly of Idolatry

I was so struck by something I read in God’s Word that I thought it worth sharing. It has to do with idolatry and its folly. If ever there was an example of utter foolishness or folly, it is found in the actions and words of the enemies of Israel, who, after capturing the ark of God from Israel, were struck with a plague by God as punishment. Their reaction? “When the people realized what was happening, they exclaimed, ‘We can’t keep the ark of the God of Israel here any longer. We will all perish, along with our god Dagon'” (1 Sam. 5:7 TLB).
