Some say Jesus was a prophet of God, others a good man. Some say he was an imposter, a magician. Others say Jesus was an adept of mystery religions.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
“Who do men say that I am?” – Jesus
(Matthew 16:13)
In the time of Jesus’ earthly ministry there were diverse opinions about who Jesus was. Some thought he was a reincarnation of John the Baptist or one of the prophets like Elijah or Jeremiah. If there was confusion then about who Jesus was, how much more today after the passing of so many years.
I submit to God. I resist the devil, and he will flee from me. (James 4:7)
I have the faith of God and I expel demons. (Mark 11:22; Mark 16:17)
Jesus has given me authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt me. (Luke 10:19)
The spirits are subject to me. (Luke 10:20)
I heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers and cast out demons. Freely I have received, I freely give.
He Himself took our infirmities, and bore our sicknesses. Jesus took my infirmities, and bore my sicknesses. (Matthew 8:17)
By the blows that cut into Him I was healed. (1 Peter 2:24)
Surely He has borne my griefs and sickness, and carried my sorrows and pains. He was wounded for my transgressions, He
was bruised for my iniquities, the chastisement for my well-being and peace was upon Him, and by the blows that cut into
Him, I am healed! (Isaiah 53:4,5).
The Disciple,—Master, it is clear to almost everyone that to disobey God and to cease to worship Him is sin, and the deadly result is seen in the present state of the world. But what sin really is is not absolutely clear. In the very presence of Almighty God, and in opposition to His will, and in His own world, how did sin come to be?
The Master,—1. Sin is to cast aside the will of God and to live according to one’s own will, deserting that which is true and lawful in order to satisfy one’s own desires, thinking thus to obtain happiness.
The Disciple,—Master, in these days some learned men and their followers regard Thy atonement and the redemption by blood as meaningless and futile, and say that Christ was only a great teacher and example for our spiritual life, and that salvation and eternal happiness depend on our own efforts and good deeds.
The Master,—1. Never forget that spiritual and religious ideas are connected less with the head than with the heart, which is the temple of God, and when the heart is filled with the presence of God the head also is enlightened.
