Promises of Answered Prayer

There could be many things God wants us to have that we do not have. Do not assume that you have everything you need to do the job God wants you to do. You might have to ask for something that you still need.

Yet you do not have because you do not ask.  You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
James 4:2,3

There are two main conditions for being the person whose prayers God answers. One is a total devotion to the presence of God and the influence of the Holy Spirit in your life, which can only happen when you obey Christ's commandment – especially the commandment to love (which implies great sacrifice in general). The second condition is that you keep God's word in your heart all the time. Not many of us do this consistently, so we see our opportunity right away to get more prayers answered. And there is nothing that the Lord cannot do.

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
John 15:7

We are supposed to have such a relationship with God that when we pray, we are sure that God has answered, and therefore, what we asked for is certain to manifest at some time in the future – either almost immediately or later if need be. Faith is a condition for answered prayer.

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
Mark 11:24

If we love some kind of sin we are not going to get answered prayer in most cases. God is not even going to hear us a lot of times.

If I regard iniquity in my heart,
The Lord will not hear.
Ps 66:18

We are encouraged nevertheless to persistently ask, and to be pushy with God. Knocking on doors is a form of being pushy. Be pushy, but remember that God might also be waiting for you to open your heart to His word and His will more before He answers you. Seek out God's will and ways even while asking for what you need and want.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?  If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Matthew 7:7-12

Sin consciousness destroys faith. The best thing to do is to focus on Jesus as much as possible. This gives no room for sin to breed.

Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.  And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.
1 John 3:21-23

Again, faith is vital. Believing is vital. We need to have hearts that believe if we want answered prayer. So its good to pray for things you DO believe that God will answer. Faith grows as we see the answers come in. We can then get more bold.

And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
Matthew 21:22

When we are messed up, when we have sinned, we need mercy. Because of what Christ has done for us, we can get mercy, but we have to come to God to get it. Don't be afraid of coming to the Father if you know you have messed up. Those are the exact times you need to come.

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16
