My first encounter with our loving God was in March of 1994 while we were living in Ankeny, Iowa. I had recently accepted new employment as an Engineering Tech.2 with a Consulting Engineering firm after the manufacturing company in Osceola, Iowa closed ending my employment as Engineering Project Coordinator. Osceola had been good to me, I had experienced rapid success and was very fortunate to have worked with an extremely talented and experienced group of people.

Osceola was also my wife’s home town and we had both attended high school there.

When I was about 15 years old, I tasted alcohol for the first time and I knew that I was hooked. It seemed to fill me up in a way that nothing else did. I didn’t realize at the time that it felt good to me only because I was empty inside. I had something missing and something broken in my life, but I couldn’t really define what it was. Hi, I’m Eric. On a lucky day in 1973, in Bremerton, Washington, I cost my parents five bucks when I came into the world. Being in the military does have its benefits, I guess.

My parents raised me in the way I should go, but sometimes we don’t all feel like going the way we’re told. In 1979, we moved up to Alaska, and we stayed there until 1989.

In 1992, I began to get extremely stressed from my job and marriage. I was a Regional Manager for a high tech electronic company with lots of people to manage and offices to run for profit. I began to be anxious about everything especially death. The anxiety grew larger and larger until it began to consume my life. I felt like each day I was going to die. When the sun went down the anxiety intensified. I was divorced in 1993 and this was the final blow in my life. I was out of control drinking and not looking to God for help.
