Archbishop Desmond Tutu rebukes the church for being “homophobic”

You can see just where we are today, how close we are to the end of the age, when church leaders who are widely praised by all kinds of Christians come out to bash those who want to uphold the teaching of Scripture. Take a look at this BBC world report where Archbishop Desmond Tutu is reported to have said in relationship to the matter where the US Anglican church consecrated an openly practicing homosexual to the position of bishop: the Anglican Church has seemed “extraordinarily homophobic” in its handling of the issue, and that he had felt “saddened” and “ashamed” of his church at the time.”

Tutu goes on to say, “If God, as they say, is homophobic, I wouldn’t worship that God.”

It seems that Tutu is now ashamed of holiness and the law of God, even as he “welcomes” the practice of what God in Leviticus 18:22 calls an abomination.

The word “homophobic” itself is a lie. You can be against homosexual practices without being afraid of them (phobia = fear), and this use of language is extremely dishonest. God wishes us all well, all of us, but only on His terms. God has no pleasure in the death of a sinner but rather wishes that the sinner turn from his sin and live. God is against homosexual perversion as well as all other sin and He is not going to change His standards to “welcome you” on your own terms into the Kingdom of God. God IS welcoming, but only to those who REPENT, not to those who seek to corrupt His holy people. The word “homophobic” is used by those who seek to label those who oppose what God opposes as haters of mankind, when the truth is, if you won’t obey God’s laws, and refuse to repent, you will be destroyed. Those who won’t warn the perishing are the ones who are truly indifferent to the wellbeing of mankind (or they are just unbelievers, take your pick). Do you really think God, who made the galaxies and the genetic code and understands all things, is impressed by the recent rantings of church leaders who seek to accommodate the prevailing moods and fashions of modern society?

Now homosexuals are very militant today, and whereas many countries formerly had laws banning sodomy, it is now virtually a crime in several countries to speak against the practice. There has been talk of banning the Bible as “hate literature” in various countries because of what it plainly teaches on this and other issues. For example, when Paul speaks on the sinfulness and degeneration of mankind, he makes specific mention of homosexual practice:

“Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due”. (Romans 1:27)

We tend to be concerned with the consequences of sin, far more than with the fact that we have hurt God.

“as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire” (Jude 7)

“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination” (Leviticus 18:22)

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the Kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6:9,10).

These Scriptures are plain. Reject them and you reject the Holy Spirit who inspired them. God will then give you over to a strong delusion, reserved for those who do not love the truth, but rather take pleasure in unrighteousness.

“And for this reason God will send them a strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:11,12).

Once God sends a delusion against you, you have had it. You won’t get out of the delusion so easily. Folks, it is happening today, at the top levels of the institutional churches.

Is the Bible homophobic? Is the Bible hate literature? Is God in heaven now wringing his hands and wondering how He could ever have been so insensitive and cruel as to allow these verses to be printed on the pages of our Bible? Has God realised in the last 40 years that he got it wrong, that he made a mistake?

Perhaps you would say, ‘No, but we can’t take the Bible seriously as an authority as if from God on these issues.’ Would you reject the Bible as being completely God’s word? When you don’t like what it says, you will now say that it is just the ideas of men, even perhaps “homophobic” men, who in a wonderfully civilized society such as hours (which murders unborn babies by the millions) would be locked away as hate criminals? If this is so, and the Bible is wrong, how can you really know ANYTHING that God has said? Will you trust your own heart? The Bible says that “the heart of man is desperately wicked and deceitful above all things” and “he who trusts in his own heart is a fool”. Know for certain that in going down this path, you have made yourself an ENEMY of God. “Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself and enemy of God.” (James 4:4)

The governments of this world are firmly in the camp of Satan, the god of this age (2 Corinthians 4:4), the “prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2), not of God, when they would lock away the prophet Moses and the apostle Paul as hate criminals and promote the leaders of Sodom and Gomorrah to positions of national honor and recognition. This fits in with what the Bible says about the end times, where the governments of the world will support the Antichrist, and a False Religious Harlot Church will sell itself for power and the approval of men and demons.

Will we see the institutional church come out in favor of adultery and paedophilia also in the days ahead? Nothing would surprise me now.

Homosexual sin is not the only thing which is bothering God. It certainly is not a major focus of what is on this website. God is also angered by our selfishness, indifference and greed also. There are lots of things that God hates, and yes, these are in the church also. Woe to the professing church today! “For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them” (2 Peter 2:21).

We don’t tolerate, condone or celebrate one thing God calls an abomination in order to focus our efforts on attacking other evils. We are against all evil of all kinds everywhere. Whoever is not for Jesus and His words is against him.

Though God condemns sin, He still longs for people to turn from all their sins and embrace Him in Spirit and Truth. If anyone desires a new life, no matter what they have done, they can come to Jesus and He will wash them, cleanse them and put a new Spirit within them. While we have life on earth, there is still this possibility.

It is not our hatred for evil that makes us right with God, but rather, it IS the precious blood of Christ. Its only the sacrifice of Christ for our sins that can make any of us acceptable to God. Because only the perfect work of Christ can save any of us. That sacrifice is effective only for those who turn from sin. Those who promote it and teach sin, though they wear the garb of senior church leaders, have made themselves enemies of God, even as the world applauds them.
