True Story of an Alcoholic’s Deliverance

This is a true story of how God delivered an alcoholic God competely delivered me, there’s not even the smell of smoke left on me.

I started drinking at an early age because all my friends did and I it want to be different. It’s about all we knew to do in the country. I started out drinking blackberry wine that my brothers made. Later, we moved to Florida where I got work and started supporting my mother, but I was still drinking heavy. I met a beautiful girl in Florida who was living in Alabama just about 30 miles from where I lived. We were married on October 25,1960 in Alabama then moved back to Florida where my drinking problem got worse. I was jailed and was looking at some serious time while my wife was with our first child. My brother sold some land and his truck to bail me out and some very good friends pulled some strings with people to get me released from jail. I had to leave the state, and again returned to Alabama.

In 1963 we moved to Michigan. It was there that my drinking problem even got worse.

I finally realized that I really had a problem but I still would not submit to treatments. That is the first step in deliverance, recognizing the problem and admitting it.

In the meantime, we had 4 children: 2 boys and 2 girls. We returned to Alabama, thinking that back home in the country, I could quit drinking on my own. Wrong again, we moved back in 1972, and after many attempts to stop drinking, I became worse. I was in and out of just about every jail in Walker, Winston and Cullman County. They knew me by my first name. It seemed there was no hope left for me and my family. My wife and children suffered the most because of my drinking. I didn’t realize what I was putting them through. My oldest son was afraid to see me come home. He knew I was hateful when I was drunk.

In March 1974, there was a terrible accident. I was driving drunk with my wife and children in the automobile and we overturned. My wife injured her chest and neck, and my youngest son was seriously injured. It ruptured his spleen and busted his liver which caused internal bleeding. I received two broken bones in my neck and other back injuries. I was almost totally paralyzed. I had no feeling when I awoke and I couldn’t move. My other 3 children escaped with just minor injuries.

I was carried to Walker County Jail and my wife and children were taken to the People’s Hospital, in Jasper Alabama. My son was rushed to Caraway Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. They did exploratory surgery and repaired his liver and spleen as best as they could. They said he had lost so much blood that they didn’t know if he would recover. Because of this he went into a coma. I was brought back to People’s Hospital after I sobered up, and admitted as a patient. It was there in the hospital that I realized what I had done. They told me about my son and how they didn’t expect for him to live.

Oh, God! What have I done? I also received word that my wife was leaving me and getting a divorce. My son was dying and I didn’t even know where my other children were. With nothing (it seemed) to live for, the whole world caved in on me. Everything that I loved was being taken away from me and there was nothing that I could do about it. For the first time in my life I was helpless and I was still paralyzed. So, with nothing else to live for, nowhere to go and, no one to turn to,I cried out to Jesus. I gave my heart and soul to Him. A complete surrender. A Word from the Lord came unto me saying, “Fear not, your son will live

” My wife heard about my conversion and came back to stand with me.
glitter-graphics.com What a wonderful wife! What a wonderful Savior! My son was miraculously healed! Raised from a death bed to a complete recovery! God called me to preach His Word while I was kneeling beside my son’s bedside, crying and talking to God.

In 1 Corinthians 1:26,27, God’s Word says, “For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the -wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the mighty; and the base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in His Presence. ” There is hope for the hopeless, in Christ Jesus our Lord. There is deliverance for the Alcoholic! I have been telling the Good News about Jesus and His Mercy ever since! I will spend the rest of my life telling others about Jesus and helping others find Him. Have you heard, “Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic?” That’s completely wrong because the Word says whom the Son sets free is free indeed! Since my deliverance I have never had a desire to drink again. It’s as though I had never been an alcoholic. No withdrawal symptoms, complete deliverance! Praise God

AND FOR THE RECORD, I WAS SAVED AND DELIVERED ON HER BIRTHDAY, APRIL 1, 1974.
WE WERE MARRIED ON MY BIRTHDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1960.
NEITHER OF THE EVENTS WERE PRE-PLANNED.
ONLY GOD COULD HAVE DONE THIS FOR US!
