The Seeking Factor
Written By: Barbara A. Worthington, taught by the Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ, to draw mankind closer to our Papa God
Col 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. (KJV)
Col 3:1 You were raised from death with Christ. So live for what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. (ERV)
Col 3:1 If then ye were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. (ASV)
Let’s start by looking at Col 3:1, in all 3 versions we are seeing that it’s telling us that we are to see that we are risen with Christ. This refers to another section in Colossins where you were being buried with christ when yo u were baptised. Meaning as you went under the water your old self died. Upon being raised out of the water you were ressurrected with Jesus. Becoming a new creation. Those baptised were changed by their faith in Jesus. The scriptures I am referring to are as follows:
Col 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. (KJV)
Col 2:12 When you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and you were raised up with him because of your faith in God’s power. God’s power was shown when he raised Christ from death.(ERV)
Col 2:12 having been buried with him in baptism, wherein ye were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.(ASV)
The next part of the scripture in Col 3:1 all three speak about seeking things which are in heaven. So since we are now being baptised professing to be apart of all the promises of spiritual and eternal things, we need to seek those things. We need to seek them where? We need to seek them where Jesus is. Where is he? The scriptures tell us that he is seat at the right hand of God. Now as professing to be a believer of Jesus Christ we need to be looking upward. Not looking around us at earthly things seeking, pleasing earthly desires. When are baptised we are dead to our old selves. So what does this mean? Some say teach that you can’t be apart of this world anymore. Think about it? Untill our bodies wither away or were taken home by our Lord then we are where? We are here on earth. We will live our lives here enjoying the great place that was created for us and be happy. We just cannot be focused on the lusts of the world. I know this may seem confusing. I to was once confused. Then I asked for understanding. Matthew 7:7 tells us ask and it will be given you. So, I asked and received. We need to ask Papa God what are the heavenly things I should be seeking after? The answer is this my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, we need to seek within our thoughts, desires, and affections the graces of faith, hope, and love.
So your probably at this point your wondering how do we seek after faith, hope, and love? Well, first off we need wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of such things. Do you actually know what it means to seek something? Let me rephrase that do you know what it means to seek something from God? Let’s do one thing first let’s look at the definition of the word seek.

Let’s take a look at these definitions for a moment. To seek is to go in search or quest: to seek the truth. The is it people for real. Where do go in search of the truth about the graces of faith, hope, and love? Within the bible that’s where. So what we need to do is seek the knowledge of these words in order to gain understanding of what they mean. So that way through wisdom we can put them in action within our whole beings. Then it will overflow within us in abundance becoming a river flowing into our life.
There’s much more we need to look at about the seeking factor before we can go onward to the faith, hope, and love factors. So let’s continue on. Another one
of the definitons of the word seek I would like to discuss here is to try to find or discover by searching and questioning: To seek the solution to a problem. There’s a lot here folks I tell ya what. I hope your hungry because were about to dig into the meat and potatoes of the word. So to seek we are trying to find or discover by searching and questioning. Wow! So let’s start by going to Matthew 7:7-8:
Mat 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (KJV)
Mat 7:7 “Continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. (ERV)
Mat 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (ASV)
First let start off by explaining what the red letters mean to those who are wondering why there written in red. This is a very important thing to remember when reading the bible. It means that it’s words spoken directly from the mouth of Jesus. So when we look at this we can rest assured that it’s the truth. Jesus doesn’t lie to us folks. Let’s take a gander at these scriptures shall we. Each one seems to focus on the same things. KJV says “Seek and ye shall find.” The ERV says “Continue to search, and you find.” Then the ASV says “seek and ye find.” So we know from our definition above is o try to find or discover by searching and questioning: To seek the solution to a problem. So lets think about this. If we now know what it means to seek and we understand what it means to seek. What do we do. What do we seek? Let’s rewind back to the beginning of where it’s talking about Col 3:1. What did we learn there? We are suppost to be seeking things where Jesus is at the right hand of the father, right? So we need to seek what? We need to seek faith, hope, and love. Jesus says that if we seek something we will what? We will find it. How we have to ask for it to receive it.
So what’s the plan now? You know now you have been baptised and that you are to seek things where Jesus Christ is. You have read that he can be found sitting at the right hand of Papa God. Ask God to help you learn what faith, hope, and love mean to him. I think your in for some heavy helpings of meat and potatoes of the word. Be blessed everyone!
