That old lie.

The original lie which was told to Eve still remains today

Eve took the fruit of the tree of knowledge seeing that it was desirable for gaining wisdom. As for the consequences, that old serpent said, you will not die but will be like God.

Mankind had made the first step towards Gnosticism and the concept of spiritual evolution was born.

Man was destined to pursue his own God likeness.

From the Greek translation of serpent, the devil may just as well be called “the shining one” and the link between light and knowledge can be seen throughout history.

The intellectual movement of the 18th century known as the “enlightenment” came about as a result of the relaxation of the Roman Catholic monopoly on spirituality.

The protestant reformation opened the doors to many fields of occult exploration and many of the prime movers in the enlightenment were active occultists.

Sir Isaac Newton could be considered to be the greatest scientist ever to have lived, yet he was possibly better known at that time because of his alchemical studies.

The economist, John Maynard Keynes, purchased many of Newtons alchemical papers and was famously quoted with regard to Newton, “he was not the first of the age of reason, but the last of the magicians”

Newton was a member of the Royal society, a Masonic organisation that would later prove to be instrumental in the formulation of Darwinian Theory.

It was at this time that scientific study became divorced from the notion of intelligent design and science now became viewed as a replacement for God rather than a means to understand the world within the context of God as the creator.

Although the study of the occult was beginning to wane by the end of the enlightenment, many secret societies were formed that would continue to influence the formulation of social and political ideologies.

Maybe the most notable of these groups was the Illuminati.

The members of this highly subversive organisation were made up of European aristocracy, political figures, church dignitaries and leaders in the fields of science and literature.

Although the Illuminati was outlawed fairly soon after its inception, its influence continued through its attachment onto high level freemasonry.

The description of these organisations as movements of light is identical to the concept of the devil appearing as the shining one.

The bible tells us in Isaiah 14:12, that Lucifer is described as the “morning star” who exalted himself against God and subsequently was “cast down to the earth”

The star “Sirius” or “dog star” has inspired cult worship for centuries and it is represented in Masonic symbolism as the five pointed “blazing star”.

We are told in 2Corinthians 11:14 “Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light”

The ability to gain knowledge from occult activities stems from the very fact that occultism relies on making a connection with spirit beings.

The occultist may refer to these entities as spirit guides, secret chiefs, hidden or ascended masters.

They are in reality fallen angels. Part of the number who followed Lucifer’s rebellion and were cast down to the earth.

The angels were created by God and appointed by Him to administer over creation and the bible makes many references to the “divine council”.

This means that God, Lucifer and the other angels are part of a heavenly committee whose charge it is to watch over the earthly affairs of mankind.

Even though Lucifer and his followers were cast down from heaven, they retain their place on the divine council. God however, remains the ultimate authority.

The fallen angels were given power to rule over mankind and it is not hard to see the connection between this, pagan spirit worship and pantheism.

The fallen angels became worshipped as gods and bestowed their powers upon their subjects.

This connection forms the basis of every occult practice throughout time.

The early church was in no doubt about the power and authority wielded over mankind by the fallen angels.

In Ephesians 6:12 we read. “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”.

The ultimate goal of new age philosophy is consciousness evolution. The progression of mankind towards a state of being whereby the material aspects life can be discarded and we become god-like in nature

This principal can be seen not only in the theory of Charles Darwin but within the practice of freemasonry and alchemy.

The “rough ashlar” of freemasonry symbolises man as being a course and crude stone which must be refined or polished through the application of Masonic principals until he becomes smooth and thereby attains a state of super consciousness.

Similarly, the alchemists used the symbolism of the “philosopher’s stone” The same principle applied here, the alchemist’s principal subject being himself in his onward journey towards spiritual enlightenment and human perfection.

The turn of the twentieth century saw the modernist movement finally declare the death of God. Many of the leading figures of modernism had put forward the supposition that man was capable of meeting the requirements of life merely through the application of science.

There is a link between the principles of modernism and the teachings of Isaac Luria, the kabbalistic scholar. Luria advocated that God was in need of redemption and that through the movement of mankind towards perfection, God would be once again made whole.

One of the effects of modernism upon society was the concept of relativism.

The death of God also represented the demise of absolute morality. Now we can see an attitude whereby anything is permissible as long as it feels ok to do it.

As if we need to be convinced that moral attitudes are in decline, the reason lies here.

It is a deliberate and sustained attack upon Godly values and standards.

The basis of the move towards an anarchic society is the same old lie which claims that Godly values are restrictive and an encroachment on personal freedom.

The reality is that mankind is moving further into bondage under the misapprehension that enlightenment is being achieved. The dream of utopia is becoming the nightmare of dystopia.

In John 8:44 Jesus says to the Pharisees

“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murder from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks in his native tongue, for he is a liar and the father of lies”.

Let us not be deceived by the lies of the devil.

Jesus is the true light of the world.

In John 8:12. Jesus says,

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life”

Our goal is not to become like God but to follow Jesus.

John 12:25-26 shows us what kind of life we aught to lead.

“The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My father will honour the one who serves me.”

Despite the best efforts of the powers and principalities of wickedness, Jesus has triumphed and reigns on high.

We are called as His church, the body of Christ, to establish his authority on the earth, to destroy the works of Satan and to be Jesus light, shining in the darkness.
