television evangelist

I just got off of U-Tube and there is a lot of stuff on there about pastors we all know well. Benny Hinn Joel Osteen even the tv christian site TBN. Pastor against pastor, false teaching, adultery, and fraud. What’s going on? Am I in the dark or are all these teachers I looked up too false teachers? I really thought these were genuine people of God. But now im not sure if I can trust their teaching. Please help!

What do YOU think?

The final authority I agree is the bible. I like what the response earlier posted said about Saul and King David. Im not sure it was right for one preacher to bash another preacher on national television, but ultimately we as believers have to be strongly seated in our faith in Jesus, knowing that He is the only way to heaven, not one of many. I looked up to Billy Graham as well, and to find out he thinks and speaks differently than what the Word of God says is pretty dis-heartening. I appreciate everyones input and feedback on this issue. Thank you!

I appreciate everyones input on this. Mostly why it bothered me was because alot of the preachers I seen in scandal were the ones who I looked up to in my early Christian walk. But even then I went to the Word of God and checked everything they said. I even liked billy graham. And brian houston. But it seems like everyone is compromising their faith these days. I am no where near perfect myself and I know we are all human. But I guess I got my expectations of these pastors to high ?

faith is a powerful tool, there are different types,1st a person fasting to pray for someone who’s faith is weak will heal ,a person who has faith in someone else to pray with them, will bring healing, and if you have faith and willing to travail until God answers. Its not that any has power of their own, regardless of how we feel, either weak or strong, but how much we trust God for our miracle.

      Hi Greg

Very simply, this is what scripture has to say on the matter.

      Mat 7:15, 16
      15) Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
      16) Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

      Gal 5:13
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

      Mat 5:22-25
      22) But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
      23) Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
      24) Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
      25) Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

      LOVE:
      1Jn 3:10
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

      1Jn 3:14
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

      1Jn 4:20
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

      1Th 4:9
But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

      HATE:
      1Jn 2:9
He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

      1Jn 2:11
But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

      1Jn 3:15
Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

A brother does not hold a brother up to public ridicule, and humiliation, by making accusations against him.

It is very hard to find on tv strait answers from preachers today.Station owners get much pressure from their backers and allow those with less convictions and more of concern for themselves on tv. All are not bad and sometimes you can get some good info. today you have to be careful no matter who you listen to anywhere. If it cannot be backed up solidly by the Bible, leave it alone! Also you can go overboard in being to strick on yourself and family as well as being to liberal. Common sense is a gift from God,use it in all parts of your life. Now days everyone has a different version,so trust the Bible first and EVERYONE else last. The Spirit will lead in all trues. Many years ago I had a aunt, she was the one that people would always make fun of.She was very close to God. The funny thing is she would be the first people would call on,if they needed someone to pray for them. any way she had a foot that was damaged to the point in was out of place, she put her hand on the tv screen against a tv preachers hand and watched her foot move back into place. over 35 years ago,she now has been dead many years.USE COMMON SENSE and the BIBLE

I agree with you Hollyroller. Well said. It would also be my advice this person to go first to their Bible to hear from the word of God. The bible says “Not to forsake the coming together of the saints”. Meaning, you need to be around people who you can trust and who can love you. To be honest, all TV evangelists love is your money. That’s a fact. If it were not true, they wouldn’t be on TV. Money and fame. Many of these pastors have become apostate. Billy Graham has confessed Jesus is not the only way. So have many of the others. Many of the long time TV evangelists are part of freemasonry. (Look that up for yourself). Their love of money leaves them vulnerable to the influences of the rich and evil.
Seek first the kingdom of God and all other things will be added to you.
Anyway, good luck to this person.

      • Before anyone can reliably know whether any preacher is telling the truth, they really need to spend some time studying the Bible. Its worth the investment, because embracing deception can cost you your eternal soul in some cases.

    • bornagainbytheblood says:

I would not be surprised if that preacher was the Rev. Ernest Angley, for he encourages people to place their hands against his on the TV screen as a point of contact; there are real healings and miracles taking place through that ministry; the power of the Holy Ghost is in operation. People try to smear him and his ministry; but, that should be of no surprise, as they smeared the prophets of long ago too.

      • crustydownunder says:

I am convinced that healings take place following the preaching of the gospel, but, it is because of the individuals own level of faith, and not simply because of the preacher. Jesus Himself, in some towns, could do few miracles because of THEIR lack of faith, and THEIR unbelief.

So, yep, sometimes a healing takes place following the preaching of the gospel, even if the preacher has run off the rails. It takes place because of an individuals own faith and because of the grace of God. I am not convinced that a false teacher has the faith needed to bring about a healing because of his own faith and strength of prayer life. Why do I think that way? Well, because, after all, it is God’s power alone, through Jesus Christ, and by His stripes we are healed. The woman with the issue of blood is proof of healing because of the individuals faith alone. Jesus’ surprise over the healing tells us it was taken from Him without, if it were possible, His foreknowledge. If it were, would it not be to highlight this particular point.

This is not to say that a false teacher was not once a preacher with a gift to heal, or that his gift has been taken away. However, if a teacher has fallen into false doctrine or unbelief, I can’t see the anointing of God remaining on his ministry.

        What are your thoughts?

        • I can tell you from personal experience that you can be somewhat down and compromised in your walk with God but in the right situation, like a preaching opportunity, God can take hold of you, empower you, and use you for His glory. The anointing can be on you and make a difference even while you are not walking in holiness. It doesn't mean you are right with God, it just means you are available to be used. It isn't only the faith of the hearers, though that can always play a role. Strangely the power of God can work through you if you have previously sought God and obtained an anointing, even when you have sin in your life. This is a really dangerous place to be, and its all too common in the ministry. The situation isn't helped by false grace preachers who teach that holiness isn't necessary to see the Lord.

        • new creature says:

While reading your input, I couldn’t help but think of king Saul. He did have an anointing from God at one time, but of course he was rejected by God and Samuel found that hard at first, but ‘got it’ finally. But Saul was still king for many years after that till David was ready in God’s timing. Saul was anointed to serve as king over Israel. Though the Holy Spirit did leave him and an evil spirit latched on – how quick they are, Saul was still winning victories for Israel; and this was God’s working, not for Saul so much but for His people. Then we have Judas, who, though he had a part in the ‘ministry’ along with the other apostles, he was never really all out for Jesus. Yet, he along with the others could do exploits in Jesus name. And why? Because Jesus and His Father wanted to bless the people, that they may know God and His Son. The gifts and callings are without repentance – God doesn’t back-flip like men do. God is not a man that He should lie..,.what He has spoken that shall He do. Then we have Jesus telling us that although many WILL come to Him on the last day pleading with Him on the basis they did the miracle stuff. His answer – Don’t know you – get out workers of iniquity! God does honour HIS OWN WORD, and if He pleases to bless the hearer in spite of the vessel, He’s a gonna do it! Glory! Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
