Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
In this world we sometimes go through difficult times and moments. But Romans 8:28 promises, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” In other words, if you truly trust in the Lord your God, you will trust He is going to orchestrate all things together to bless you and not harm you. So you do not have to give into a spirit of fear, which He did not give you according to 2 Timothy 1:7. Instead, you are privileged to not just enjoy peace, but great peace in any given situation.
What person does not desire great peace in their life? Papa God freely gives us the sort of peace that keeps you balanced with a healthy understanding that He has everything under control. Even if you stumble here and there as you go through some fiery trial, you will not be surprised as if something strange was happening to you.
1st Peter 4:12, “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.”
Keep in mind that the joy of the Lord is your real strength. Knowing where you will spend eternity should encourage you to rejoice always.
I recall the story in Daniel 3 of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These three men of great faith must have understood this simple concept when they said to the King Nebuchadnezzar that they would not bow down to an idol. They said “Our God will deliver us out of your fiery furnace, and even if He does not, we still will not bow down to any one but our God” (my paraphrase).
Can you imagine the courage, understanding, and intimacy with the Lord these three men of God had? That is what I am talking about here. They understood the Word and obeyed the Word as they stayed in great peace.When you really consider it, some of our definitions may need to be adjusted. Here the Bible is offering us “Great Peace”. Yet our definition of peace in this world seems based on the fact that if two nations are not at war with each other they are at peace. If we are not fighting with our family or business members then we are in peace. Yet that is not dealing with the underlying cause of strife. Unclean spirits set up strong holds in our minds and thinking processes were there are often hurt feelings, spirits of bitterness, unforgiveness, resentment and much misunderstanding.
Have you ever considered what it is to be humble? Again, the way we interpret humility does not seem to line up with the Biblical concept of it. Jesus Christ of Nazareth is known as the most humble of men. He even washed the Apostles’ feet.
Yet in John 14:6 we read, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
By our definitions today that does not sound like a very humble statement. I think we may need to readjust our ideas of humility and true peace then.We must always keep in mind the awesomeness of our Lord our God. His ways are truly much higher, wider and deeper then our ways.
In John 14:27 Jesus tells us,” Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
In the Hebrew the word “Shalom”-which means peace- is often used in greeting someone.
Yet it means more then just simple peace. It means more then just being free from strife and discontentment. The root of the word means completeness, or wholeness, meaning you are not lacking anything. It’s the more abundant life Jesus Christ of Nazareth offers each of us who make Him our Lord and Saviour. So as we meet His conditions, all the promises that are in the Holy Bible are able to be activated in our lives.
We read in 1 Thessalonians 5:23, “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
We do not do always do everything just right, but relax. The Lord loves you so much more then you can possibly even understand this side of Heaven. He will work with you as you stay in faith, because every thought you have (all 30,000 to 70,000 of them a day) requires that you choose which pathway they will travel throughout your body. Faith or Fear are the only two choices. You must pick one or the other moment by moment.
The Lord put in place certain spiritual laws in the universe and He is not likely going to change them or adjust them now just for you or anyone else. True peace comes when we place our trust in Him. When we live according to His ways, we will not likely stumble and be easily offended or even discouraged. The attacks of the enemy will not be able to overthrow us because we know that He who lives in us is much greater then the enemy of our souls.
