By Your Words you will be justified … and by your words you will be condemned

Jesus said, "But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the Day of Judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

(Matthew 12:36)

I have more questions on this passage than answers, so I throw it up for discussion.

Did Jesus really mean to say this to everyone, including his disciples, or did he only say it to the Pharisees (see vs 25)? One COULD argue that this passage was only written to the Pharisees and unsaved people like that.

Predestination Discussion

Thoughts for and against the idea of predestination can go here.

For the record, I do not believe that the Bible teaches that God predestines people merely on the basis of what He chooses for them. The Bible says that God predestines people according to His foreknowledge. I believe He predestines based on the kind of ways they would respond to His grace in its various forms. This is done to ensure that at least some people have a chance to be saved to the end.

Struggling vs Trusting

Recently I've been pondering some of the dealings of God with myself and my wife. We want to know what it is that God is trying to teach us.

If God is trying to teach you something and you are not getting it, the season might remain painful for quite some time.

Divorce, Remarriage and Adultery

I think its important to discuss this issue of divorce, remarriage and adultery.

I hope we can.

But its good to be fully assured of what we believe.

The Bible does, after all, contain many precepts which are contrary to human standards and ways.

So lets get straight to the burning question:

One of the Ten Commandments says, in Exodus 20:12  "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you. "

What does this mean?

Jesus referred to it as a commandment that the Scribes and Pharisees were violating through their traditions
