What shall we make of Matthew 7:21-23

One of the most interesting and controversial passages anywhere in the
Bible comes straight out of the mouth of Jesus Christ, and is recorded
for us in Matthew 7:21-23:

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter
the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied
in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your
name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart
from Me, you who practice lawlessness!

Introduction

I remember this day very well because something supernatural happened to me. I had just started opening my Holy Bible to find where to read. Suddenly, my heart caught an invisible fire. It was as if the room temperature had suddenly been increased. Had the house caught fire? No, there was no visible smoke or fire in the room.

I realised that this was the mighty presence of the Holy Spirit.

When is Jesus your Lord?

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of my Father in heaven.”(Matthew 7:21).

Some have taught that your salvation is secure if you pray a prayer inviting Christ to be your Saviour. Others have taught that if you just SAY ‘Jesus is Lord’ you will be saved according to Romans 10:9. But Jesus said you have to ‘do the will of the Father’ to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Calling Him Lord is therefore not enough.

The Church – a lesson by Ps John Iuliano
