spiritual prayer

SPIRITUAL PRAYER
In mathew Jesus tells us to pray in secret and tells us what to utter aloud because our father in heaven already knows our heart and mind before we ask. In John we are told the father seeks us to pray in spirit but that does not mean utter in tongues only. For it says in Corinthians that tongues is a sign gift for unbelievers and unless you can interpret then you should remain silent. Praying in spirit means mentally praying and knowing god understands without the use of words. Faith is required to truly pray in spirit. Praise to god is what is encouraged to done with the lips and aloud.prayer
John 4:23-24 KJV
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Matthew 6:6-15 KJV
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Speaking in tongues vs spiritual prayer

1 Corinthians 14:19-31 NIV

19 But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20 Brothers, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.21 In the Law it is written:
“Through men of strange tongues
and through the lips of foreigners
I will speak to this people,
but even then they will not listen to me,”says the Lord.
22 Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is for believers, not for unbelievers. 23 So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and some who do not understand or some unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? 24 But if an unbeliever or someone who does not understandcomes in while everybody is prophesying, he will be convinced by all that he is a sinner and will be judged by all,25 and the secrets of his heart will be laid bare. So he will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”
26 What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, two–or at the most three–should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret.28 If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God.
29 Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. 30 And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. 31 For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.

MESSAGE : in Matthew we are told to pray in secret and what words to say for our father in heaven already knows our hearts and minds. In john we are told our father seeks us to pray in spirit and Paul explains how in Corinthians. Tongues is a sign gift to unbelievers and not the only means of spiritual prayer. Praying in spirit is mentally knowing god understands your needs and desires. Sitting quietly alone in silent, faithful understanding praying without words is spiritual praying. Anyone who hears god , heard him in the language that he or she speaks. When he speaks is it not most often mentally and not audible sound everyone hears. This being the case why then does the church think that they have to utter in tongues to speak to god when he doesn’t speak that way.
