If we must be skeptical, we would do well to be skeptical of some of the humanistic dogma which has taken hold of so much of the present day educational system. They've really been pounding it into you over the years. There is a lot of social pressure to conform to certain ideas which have never been proven true, much less helpful to people. There is actually an incredible amount of intellectual dishonesty amongst most agnostics and secular humanists. It is not just Christians who say this, by the way - but a growing number of philosophers and scientists.
The Bible speaks of a living, personal God, who created the Heavens and the Earth. It presents an intelligent and accurate history of God's dealings with people until the time of the early church. Though written over a period of more than 1500 years through many different writers from all walks of life, it presents a consistent picture of who God is, who we are, what God wants, the consequences of our actions and the future. It contains hundreds of prophecies, many of which were fulfilled by Jesus Himself. Others are being fulfilled before our eyes in this generation.
The truth of Christianity, however, stands or falls with one central issue. The physical resurrection of Jesus Christ from death. If this really happened, then everyone should listen carefully to all that He taught. If not, then no one should trust the New Testament and all we are left with is another man-made religion with its list of do's and don'ts. We'd have to conclude that all the apostles (Jesus' first disciples), most of whom were killed for their faith in Christ and the resurrection were liars and/or crazy, deluded fools.
