Sinning versus Knowing God – Bible Study on 1 John 2:1-4

John writes so that we may not sin. And yet we have Jesus Christ going to bat for us before the Father at the times we do sin. In this teaching we look at the great blessing it is to have Jesus as our advocate. At the same time, we examine what John says is the Scriptural test for whether we really know Jesus or not.

Anyone can say that they know Jesus, but how many can say that they keep His commandments? Our true connection with Jesus is maintained through obedience to His Word.

Through abiding in Jesus, all kinds of amazing possibilities exist for us – because if our communication channel with God is clear it will really enable us to believe for amazing things. Let us go for it, recognizing that even at times that we fall short, the wonderful sacrifice of Jesus is there, and Jesus Himself represents us to the Father. Hallelujah!

  1. Joshuagm1991 says:

I love this scripture. LOVE IT. Jesus is our advocate when we do sin. That’s so comforting to know that Jesus is speaking to the father on my behalf…No comfort would come to have any other high priest doing that for me.
However, yes, we need to keep in mind: “Go and sin no more.”

That is something that has confused me throughout the years. They say, “Yes, Jesus is our advocate before the father. But Mary is our advocate before Jesus. The mediatrix of Jesus’ grace.” Like she cleans us up before we go to Jesus.
That sounds good, but, as we know, there is a way that seems right to man, but leads to death.

Thanks again for the video Michael. I really like the things that you talk about, I relate a lot to them.

  2. Please continue with these teachings (also the Romans one), they are a serious blessing! Encouraging me in my walk with the Lord and in committing myself fully to Jesus and in loving Him.

Just want to encourage you to keep walking with the Lord as you have been. Thanks a lot.
