Sex Offenders Younger, More Violent

I refer to the article at http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/06/09/young.offenders.ap/index.html

It seems that there are more and more juvenile sex offenders. One psychologist describes it as an epidemic.

Psychologists blame it on “a society rife with sexuality and violence”.

Now that sexual assaults by youngsters, even those still at kindergarten, are being reported, something I never heard of 10 or 20 years ago, I think we should ask if the psychologists who blame it on a society rife with sexuality and violence are correct.

Children tend to copy what they see, and what kids are seeing today is not good.

Christians should be getting involved in the media, so we can present an alternative. I myself certainly am, through both television and internet.

We are so keen on protecting the right to pornographers of so called “freedom of speech” that we are destroying the respect of others that is foundational to any workable society.

Any move to regulate pornography on the internet, or to move it into some kind of corner like .xxx is fiercely resisted by these people and the people under their influence. Pornographers know that if they can hook children on their products while they are pre-adolescent they will most likely have them as customers for life.

The love of money therefore is behind this.

Since the mere sight of pornography can stir up a man sexually, I would liken it to a kind of sexual assault on our senses. Even if it doesn’t involve a physical touch, it does stir up emotions and chemicals in most males. Of course, it would not do that once you are so accustomed to seeing such things that only really bizarre, twisted or violent expressions of pornography do it for you.

It would be good to see a movement against the easy accessibility of such anti-family material.

We would then be sowing the seeds for a lot more of happy marital life. How can pornography be anything but an enemy of committed sexual relationships, since it invites a man to compare his spouse with what he has seen in various mass media channels of another woman’s naked body?

Perhaps this kind of fight is best left to moralists outside the Christian church. The Christian church has better ways to fight, like prayer, fasting and preaching the Word of God. That is our first calling.

Now it seems that children are so much affected by the pornographic culture they must live in, as well as the damaged families they live in, and the violent video games they play, that it is all spilling over into acts of sexual violence on real people.

Does the love of money and profits always have to triumph over what is good and wholesome?

Perhaps it will be so for the rest of time until Jesus returns. We cannot say. Jesus predicted lawlessness in the last days, and he said the love of many will grow cold.

If you love this present world system, you cannot be a friend of God.

“Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world is constituted an enemy of God” (James 4:4)

Dear Reader, I would urge you to watch and pray, lest you too be brought down by the wickedness of the present hour. Whatever is good and pure, meditate on these things (Philippians 4:8). We now need to fill our minds with the Word of God more than ever. We need to dream dreams of uplifting humanity, not of using people for sexual pleasure and profit. Not everyone will join us, the Bible teaches that many will not receive the love of the truth in the Last Days, preferring the pleasures of unrighteousness. That is a choice you can make.

Choose life.

  1. JeanneHensley says:

I am a Christian counselor and I have seen victims of sexual assault by other children and also the young sexual offenders. I believe that there is a tremendous rise in this especially since the drug culture and pornograpy. These young offenders have little if any understanding of the consequences of their actions for themselves or their victims. This comes for the deception of the enemy. Pornography is not “freedom of speech”. We as Christian must love, forgive and instill in others, especially children the “law of the harvest”. God teaches loving consequences and so should we.
