At the time of writing, in May 2010, I’ve observed that a number of the online prayer groups have ceased functioning. Others have continued. I thank God for all the prayers and answers to prayer received to date. These daily prayer meetings went for 5 or 6 months and I believe some of us got exhausted. Some people, like brother Tim, worked very hard to facilitate prayer meetings, sometimes twice a day, on a voluntary basis, and I think after a while it was too much.
If this concept is to be relaunched with energy, I would like to propose some changes.
1. It seems the groups should be allowed to go up to 30 minutes long. Everyone wanted to go longer than 15 minutes and probably most people need longer than 15 minutes to enter fully into the spirit of prayer. I think 15-30 minutes is ideal.
2. Each prayer group should NOT be functioning DAILY, it is not sustainable if we want to multiply the numbers of groups. I believe a prayer group should happen UP TO 3 times a week. This means it will be possible to be involved in 2 different groups without doing these prayer meetings more than once per day. You might be involved in one group on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and another group Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. If you can’t attend all three meetings of your group per week, that is fine also. Just attend the ones you can.
3. Groups should be limited in number to a maximum of 6 people. In groups larger than this, some people will not have time to join in vocally. It is best to close a group once 6 active members have joined. Only if someone does not participate for a week should they perhaps be removed to make room for another person to join that group.
I invite feedback on this concept. I believe it is more sustainable and will work better.
