Natural and Spiritual Dehydration

Apparently if you don't drink enough water your body can't assimilate food to produce energy as well, and it turns it to fat instead. What God gave us in abundance is usually very important for our basic needs. As in the natural, so in the spiritual. We need an abundance of the water of the Holy Spirit and the Water of the Word too!

I learned in a health webinar more about the importance of drinking lots of water. Most of us don't drink enough. We should drink 2-4 litres a day, depending on who you listen to. Thats 2-4 lites of H2O, not coca-cola or even fruit juice!

The Bible says in Romans 1 that the natural things of creation teach us things about the way God works.

Jesus referred to rivers of living water when he talked about the gift of the Holy Spirit.

37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing[a] in Him would receive; for the Holy[b] Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (John 7:37-39)

The Holy Spirit is infinite! We can always drink in more of the Spirit. But if you say you've got it all, let's see it! There is a great need for people to see the fruit of the Spirit under pressure, and also the gifts of the Holy Spirit which can be used to liberate people from the curse.

Spiritual Dehydration?

It seems that most people today do not drink enough water, and are dehydrated. This results in tiredness, premature aging and all kinds of sicknesses and diseases in the natural. People have been healed just by taking in larger quantities of water and some salt for a period of time.

But the worst of it is not natural dehydration. The serious problem of the church today is SPIRITUAL DEHYDRATION. We are trying to get by on way too little of God. We try to do things and find satisfaction with our tanks 20% full. This is not the will of God. A lot of things will change if we allow ourselves to hydrate spiritually.

Most of us need to be thirsty so we can drink more. Sometimes we aren't even in touch with our own thirst. We try to slake it with other things, things that lead to pain and bondage. But the true life is in Jesus. Its in believing in Jesus and drinking of the Holy Spirit.

Be Filled with the Holy Spirit

"Do not be drunk with wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be continually filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18).

This instruction it seems to me is a COMMANDMENT, but one we don't hear preached with much authority in the pulpits of today. Perhaps this is because most preachers themselves do not obey this commandment. Ask your favourite preacher if he obeys this commandment!

Somehow we need to all come out of this condition. We must get a sense of what is possible if we truly "hydrate" ourselves with the things of God.

Not all the benefits will be IMMEDIATE. Some might take weeks or months to see. But they will be real.

There is also the huge issue of our personal effectiveness in bearing witness to the gospel. Without giving a proper place to the Holy Spirit, we are just going to be weak and ineffective.

This has to stop. Would you be willing to come to God right now and forsaking all idols in your heart, dedicate yourself to be a truly Holy Spirit filled person?
