“My Immaculate Heart will triumph”

“My Immaculate Heart will triumph”

The true son of Mary

How symbolic and meaningful was the day of the sudden death of Pope John Paul II ! It occurred six years ago on the first Saturday that fell right before the Sunday of Mercy. Eventually his weary human heart could unite with the loving Heart of Mary that he had been yearning for so much. One can easily calculate how many years it would have to taken till this wonderful coincidence could happen. It was a conspicuous Divine intention to highlight the importance both of a First Saturday devotion and the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In the course of his earthly life the Servant of God Karol Wojtyla had been a special propagator of the Fatima message and Divine Mercy. Throughout his holy life not only did Karol Wojtyla joyfully practice the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary but it was well-known that he also wanted to fulfil the second main request of Our Lady and make it officially approved and accepted by the Universal Church. He used to call it “The Message of the Century”. No wonder , when today millions of people are still vividly recalling the figure of the deceased Pope, we simply cannot forget what really had been the core of his life, what had formed the basis of his unquestionable sanctity that had been radiating round whenever and wherever he placed his foot. Obviously, there can only be one answer – he derived this remarkable power from the Immaculate Heart of Our Lady. May these few lines be a humble tribute to one of the greatest men of modern times whose day of glory is officially set on the 1st of May the Sunday of Divine Mercy.

Message from Heaven

The Blessed Virgin Mary revealed to the three children at Fatima the desire for a First Saturday devotion in 1917. On December 10, 1925, the Virgin unveiled more details about the devotion to Sister Lucy, then a cloistered nun. “I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation all those who, in order to make reparation to me, on the First Saturday of five successive months, go to confession, receive Holy Communion, say five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for a quarter of an hour, meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary”. For an unknown and mysterious reason Our Lady’s appeal concerning the First Saturday devotion has generally been met with lukewarm reception, if not sometimes with total indifference. It has been slowly spreading throughout the world ever since. Our Lady’s simple request appears to have gone unheard. According to Sister Lucy, for over 70 years “little has been done in this matter” This is despite the fact that Cardinal Ratzinger has announced it to have been more powerful than armoured divisions. Fatima is undoubtedly the most prophetic of modern apparitions. Occasionally it is said to have been an unaccomplished mission of Pope John Paul II.

Sister Lucy, in a letter to her godmother (1.11.1927), explains briefly the devotion:
“It seems to me, my dear godmother, that we are fortunate to be able to give our dear Heavenly Mother this proof of love, for we know that She desires it to be offered to Her. As for myself, I avow that I am never so happy as when first Saturday arrives. Isn’t it true that our greatest happiness is to belong entirely to Jesus and Mary and to love them alone, without reserve? We see this so clearly in the lives of the saints…They were happy because they loved, and we, my dear godmother, we must seek to love as they did, not only to enjoy Jesus, which is the least important because if we do not enjoy Him here below, we will enjoy Him up above but to give Jesus and Mary the consolation for being loved…and that in exchange for this love they might be able to save many souls”.
To establish devotion (in accordance with God’s wishes) to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and to make reparation for…
1. Attacks upon the reality of Mary’s Immaculate Conception
2. Attacks against her the reality of Mary’s Perpetual Virginity
3. Attacks upon Mary’s Divine Maternity and the refusal to accept her as the Mother of all mankind
4. Those who try to publicly implant in children’s hearts indifference, contempt and hatred for Immaculate Mary
5. For those who insult Mary directly in her sacred images.

1. The Virgin Mary’s assistance at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation for those who practice the devotion.
2. Salvation of souls and peace as a result of promoting of the Devotion to the Immaculate Heart.

“Consecrating ourselves to Mary means accepting her help to offer ourselves and the whole of mankind to Him who is holy, infinitely holy; it means accepting her help by having recourse to her motherly Heart…”- Pope John Paul II. “Through Mary, in Mary, and for Mary ” are in fact a pledge to perform all our actions more perfectly through Jesus. Dedication to the Heart of Mary must therefore maintain the vital unity between the Heart of Mary and the Heart of Jesus. Mary plays the universal role of mediatrix and distributrix to the world of divine grace, light, wisdom and power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit that dwells in the Heart of the Virgin Mary can enable each and every soul attain quickly holiness in a simple way, though many falsely believe that this rare state of soul is reserved for nuns and priests only. By this act the Immaculate Heart of Mary is invited to bring about in ourselves a conversion that will free us from every attachment to ourselves and to the world so that we may be available to do perfectly the will of the Heavenly Father.
Sister Lucy has also reportedly echoed Pope John Paul II in saying that Medjugorje is the continuation of Fatima. Similarly, many theologians perceive the present-day Medjugorje apparitions. According to the Medjugorje visionary Ivan, “I don’t recall for sure, but I remember one of the other visionaries saying that Our Lady told them that what she began in Fatima, she is going to complete in Medjugorje”.

Personal consecration can be accomplished by solemn and deliberate reading of the following passage: “In the presence of the heavenly court, I choose you this day as my Mother and Mistress. I deliver and consecrate to you, as your slave, my body and soul, my goods, both interior and exterior, and even the value of all my good actions, past, present and future; leaving to you the entire and full right of disposing me, and all that belongs to me without exception, according to your good pleasure, for the greater glory of God, in time and in eternity”.
Historical background

The history of devotion to the Heart of Mary is connected on many points with that to the Heart of Jesus; nevertheless, it has its own history which, although very simple, is not devoid of interest. The love and virtues of the Heart of Mary attracted the attention of the early Christians. The Gospel itself invites this attention with exquisite discretion and delicacy. What is first excited is compassion for the Virgin Mother. It is, so to speak, at the foot of the Cross that the Christian heart first makes the acquaintance of the Heart of Mary. Simeon’s prophecy paves the way and furnishes the devotion with one of its favourite formulae and most popular representations: the heart pierced with a sword. But Mary is not merely passive at the foot of the Cross; “she cooperates through charity”, as St. Augustine says, “In the work of our redemption”.

Through the centuries Christians seeking most fully to know, love and serve God – Father Son and Holy Spirit – have done so by consecrating their lives to Jesus through the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the Middle Ages the Most Pure Heart of Our Lady gradually grows in importance, though it is still connected with a private cult and becomes a motive power in sanctifying of the following saints: St. Matylda of Hackerborn, St. Gertrude of Hefta, St. Brigitte of Sweden, St. Bernardino of Sienna. Their spiritual life reaches a climax in a mystical phenomenon the so-called “exchange of hearts”. In the 17th century, Saint Jean Eudes takes pains to make this cult officially approved by the Church. In his sermons he frequently urges, “Her heart is the beginning of everything what is noble, rich and precious in human souls that make up the church on earth and in heaven.” In 1799 Pious VI, then in captivity at Florence, grants the Bishop of Palermo the feast of the Most Pure Heart of Mary for some of the churches in his diocese. By 1805 Pious VII makes a new concession, thanks to which the feast is soon widely observed. Such is the existing condition when a twofold movement, starts in Paris, it gives fresh impetus to the devotion. The two factors of this movement are first of all the revelation of the “miraculous medal”, The Immaculate Heart of Mary, Refuge of Sinners, 1830, which circulates rapidly throughout the world and is the source of numberless graces. Secondly on 21.07.1865, the Congregation of Rites finally approves the Office and Mass of the Most Pure Heart of Mary without, however, imposing them upon the Universal Church. Saint Louis de Montfort declared, “I deliver and consecrate to you, as your slave”. At this moment the dogma of the Immaculate Conception is announced (1854) and people begin to proclaim in public the cult of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. As early as in 1864 a number of bishops ask the Holy See to consecrate the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In the years 1908 – 1914 numerous Marian congresses inspire many to consecrate themselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Nevertheless, the most significant breakthrough takes place in Fatima, (13.06.1917). A young female visionary, Lucy, receives a fundamental message, “God desires to establish in the world the devotion to my Immaculate Heart,” (13.07.1917). Our Lady speaks to the three visionaries, “You have seen the Hell where souls of poor sinners go. To save them God wants to spread around in the world the consecration to my Immaculate Heart.” The Virgin Mary warns, “If my requests are not granted the good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, and various nations will be annihilated.” “In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph”. As a fulfilment of this prophecy, the night-time skies over much of Europe are seen to glow inexplicably in 1937. Shortly afterwards, World War II breaks out and is followed by the spread of communism from Russia to various countries throughout the world.
History of Christian Europe is marked by numerous interventions of Our Lady. There was the sea battle of Lepanto, for instance, when Europe was threatened by the Turks. The Turkish fleet was far superior to the Christian fleet. What did Pope Pius V do? He mobilized all the Christian kings and their soldiers and called all of Christendom to pray the Rosary. The then Sultan, Suleiman the Magnificent, was reported to have said, “I am not afraid of the Christian kings, of their cannons and fleets and generals, but I am afraid of their prayer.” That prayer is the Rosary.
We all know how this sea battle ended. During the Pope’s prayer in Rome, he had a vision where he saw how both opposing fleets clashed. At this moment he also saw how the Mother of God spread her mantle over the Christian soldiers. They won. In Venice there is still today a painting of this battle with the inscription, “Not through our power, nor through our cannons, not through our courage, but through your help we have won”.

The same happened when the Turks stood before Vienna in 1683 with an army 200,000 strong. Jan Sobieski advanced from Tsehenstochau with his 30,000 soldiers praying the Rosary. They had all received a medal from the Cardinal of Tarnawa.
Imprinted on one side there was a picture of the Sorrowful Mother of God; on the other the word “Mary” When they attacked the Turks on September 12, they shouted, “Jesus, Mary, help ! Help us! Be at our side!”And they won. We could give so many examples. But the Mother of God had prophesied her greatest victory at Fatima: “In the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph”. This means that Love will triumph – the truth, the good, the mercy of God. The Heart of Mary is a song of the mercy of the heavenly Father. This mercy will triumph, but with one condition: the conversion of Russia. This is what I will mainly speak about. “Russia will be converted”- uttered once Cardinal Hnilica.

When in neighbouring Spain bloody persecutions of Catholics are taking place Sr. Lucy loudly appeals to the clergy for consecration. She has a strong conviction that consecrating Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary can change the vicissitudes of the world so the consecration of a nation will change its misfortune. In 1931 Bishops, heavily influenced by that pious Carmelite nun, consecrate Portugal to the Immaculate Heart. Several years later in the article of imminent war this blessing act of faith is done anew (1938). Heaven simply cannot stay idle. Amazingly, Portugal is saved from warfare, while nearly all other European countries are afflicted with serious repercussions of ravaging conflict.

Pope Pious XII acting alone proclaims a Solemn Act of Consecration of the world (31.10.1942), but not Russia to the Immaculate Heart which is entrusted later the same year (1942). Surprisingly, after several weeks Winston Churchill notices that the, “hinges of fate” have turned, and the Allies begin winning against Hitler. Through Sister Lucy, a seer, “the war is to be shortened”. In 1946 the last seeds of war are extinguished. Polish bishops follow the example of a far-flung Portugal and unanimously consecrate Poland to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. As a result for the next forty-three years to come the Catholic Church in Poland can enjoy a relative freedom, while in the other Soviet Block countries Catholicism is nearly destroyed. For the time being, the Red Army “liberates” Austria which in this way falls into Moscow’s “eternal” dependence. As a last resort, in 1947, Austrian bishops consecrate their country to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It is accompanied by national Rosary prayer. All of a sudden the Soviets leave Austria in 1955. A few years later other countries like Germany (1954), Spain (1954), Italy (1960) and Switzerland (1960) are consecrated. In 1975, one year after a military coup, the subsequent act of consecration Portugal to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is performed. Democracy and peace are restored. “Other nations can expect miraculous fruits of consecration if they make this act”, the Holy Father announces afterward. Those who have consecrated themselves to Our Lady belong to the Immaculate Heart once and for all. The Virgin Mary fights for them against every evil, and also to a certain degree they can feel safe about their salvation. “Where the Immaculate Heart of Mary is invoked, enormous changes take place”.

On March 25, 1984, Pope John Paul II consecrates the whole world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary before 250,000 people gathered in Saint Peter’s Square. This time Sister Lucy affirms that this act complies with each and every condition that had been stated by Heaven and it is fully legible. “Now we await the miracle!” she exclaims. On the same day in spiritual union with the Holy Father Cardinal Hnilica performs the Consecration of Russia. On 13.05.1984 a five-day series of explosions near Severomorsk destroyed the Northern Fleet SAM`s stockpile as well as other missiles that finally thwarts Soviet`s plans of pre-emptive nuclear attack on the West, instead they make a crucial decision of introducing Perestroika. Coincidence or Divine intervention ? Several years later the Immaculate Heart of Mary works fully-scale miracle. Communism dies out in Eastern Europe, including Yugoslavia where the Medjugorje apparitions are already taking place. Please, do not – the very recent testimony of Mirjana (march 2011) – the visionary “Our Lady asked all of us to pray for the priests, adding <>”.
The world’s secular media and the vast majority of the Catholic press of 1980-s remain mute about its true origin of sudden changes in the East. Meantime, the devil does his outmost to gloss over the importance of this spectacular event and tries to conceal the glory of the Immaculate Heart. He knows well that the main cause of all his failures lies in the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Sister Lucy, whose single voice cannot cut through the silence of the media, acknowledges that the sudden bloodless collapse of the Soviet Empire can entirely be attributed to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Amazingly, generally people of the West attribute this phenomenon to the whole spectrum of human activities starting from: economic, political, social and finishing at some indefinite decrees of blind fate while the citizens of the former Soviet Block countries, who had lived for over 45 years behind the Iron Curtain, regard this occurrence as something absolutely spectacular, and many of them find it to have divine origin. The so-called “coup de etat” in Moscow of 1989, which was to turn back Russia from the paths of history, discloses more explicitly typical devil’s bitter anger about the unmitigated loss of the empire of evil. (Gen. 3. 15) “….you shall bruise her heel “. Even in the midst of such a dangerous setback Our Lady’s plan for mankind is shining through and the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is only a matter of time. As the old saying reads “the mills of God grind slowly”. It is not our role to decide when and how Russia is going to be converted as Russia is extremely dear to Our Lady.”Fatima mystery still remains in third day. Its week has barely begun.” In 2005 the last remaining seer, Sister Lucy, passes away leaving her will which includes two important appeals for allegiance both to a First Saturday devotion and to Fatima message.

Moreover, the election of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger and Pope Benedict XVI has been a blessing resulting from the consecration to the Heart of Mary made many years ago by German, Austrian and Swiss bishops. Besides, the path that the new pontificate runs is strictly connected with Fatima apparitions. Just as his great predecessor, the Pope Benedict XVI possesses the letter, M, in his emblem, which symbolizes his undying devotion to the Virgin Mary. What does it mean? “Heart open to God and purified by contemplation is stronger than guns and weapon of every sort”.
Lastly, Pope Benedict XV initiated the victorious process of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. John Paul II propagated it to the ends of the earth. The present pontiff Benedict XVI, the humble servant of the Virgin of Nazareth is believed to complete the final triumph of Her Heart.

In God’s merciful plan for the end times, He has directed humanity to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Her Heart can be seen as the universal remedy for all human shortcomings and pitfalls. We can remember that failure to consecrate France in 1689 to the Sacred Heart of Jesus had ruinous consequences that befell France and Europe. Today, without any exceptions we are called upon consecrating ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and practicing the devotion of the First Saturday as atonement for the five ways in which people offend the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In 1993 Sr. Lucy in an interview was to utter ” Had people listened to the voice of the Holy Virgin all wars since the year 1918 could have been avoided.”

Since the consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary can affect a common overflow of grace from the heavenly storehouse and bring about visible miracles world-wide, therefore our purposeful individual consecration will initiate an intimate mystical relationship with her divine Son. Spiritual unity must lead us on the path of faith, love and hope and sanctify ourselves, our communities and our nations. Finally it can trigger the complete upheaval of devil’s plots. “These who are going to live in the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Marry, will be truly converted and devoted to God. They will be “the new generation” that is going to defeat evil. It is “the new generation” of the Immaculate Heart”.
In this time of special grace that is Lent, we must not forget that in eyes of God, a war is always the punishment for human denial of God’s law. Before the worst can happen, God will continue to speak to us both through ordinary and extraordinary events. Therefore, we have to face the whole list of painful and harrowing experiences like terrorist attacks, tsunami disasters, devastating hurricanes and cyclones, catastrophic earthquakes, blazing bushfires, incurable diseases and understand clearly that just through them God ceaselessly insists upon reparation for the crimes of abortion, euthanasia, atheism, homosexual partnerships, occultism, gambling and the disobedience of hierarchy to the Pope and all other appalling sins that engulf the world. Yet, these penalties cannot be suspended if the Immaculate Heart of Mary is constantly offended. “On practicing this devotion [of the First Saturday] connected with the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary depends on war or peace in the world”. Unless, we want the present bloody local conflict in Libya to escalate and eventually evolve into III World War.

Thus, if there were only a couple of hundred thousand people who would sincerely and lovingly open their hearts to the message of Fatima then God may not have to castigate humanity for their numerous crimes. We must keep in our minds three little pious visionaries of Fatima who were able influence substantially on the change of God’s intentions by only holding fast to His will. As it says in Genesis, 18. 24 – 33, “….For the sake of ten I will not destroy it”.
In summary, considering the amount of evil visible in our world today we can infer that from the very start of humanity until the turn of the second millennium many people must have already seriously taken upon Our Lady’s appeal. According to private apparitions such as those of Martha Robin of Chateauneuf , Mariette Bero of Banneaux , Ida Peerdeman of Amsterdam, and Sister Agnes Sasagawa of Akita, Sister Lucy of Coimbra , the grave chastisement of the world that had been foretold earlier. Nowadays it looks as if it has been temporarily starved off. The Virgin Mary averts the punishment accordingly with efforts which are taken in order to practice and popularise the devotion of a First Saturday” that can be perceived as our fundamental concerted task. “I alone am able still to save you from the calamities which approach”.
