Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward. Matthew 9:41 NIV
Come to think of it, people are drinkers by nature. Whenever you go to someone’s house the first thing they ask is, “Would you like something to drink?” The host, in turn, puts together some type of liquid treat, as part of his or her hospitality.
Apart from being a social thing, drinking liquids has a direct effect on one’s health. There are beverages that people might either hold to a minimum or avoid altogether. There are others that taste good but have no effect on health that we know of. I for one, enjoy drinking coffee. People used to think that it was harmful but evidence of late indicates that it actually has benefits for health.
I was amused to hear something an evangelist discovered. He ministered in a country where they loved beer. The more he preached the more beer they drank. The people thought is was all right to drink any amount of bear but drinking coffee automatically cancelled one’s salvation. But in another country they drank coffee and thought of drinking beer guaranteed one’s entrance into eternal damnation.
One liquid that is always safe is water. It’s not surprising then that Jesus likened His blessings on people to this sparkling beverage that the body needs to survive. Jesus said that He was living water of which we could drink and live. So, if you’re thirsty, accept Jesus’ divine hospitality. Drink of His living water.
