Jesus the Anointed One

Chapter 4

Introduction

 

The word Messiah is derived from the  Hebrew word mashach which is used of anointing. In Isaiah 61:1 this word teaches that the anointing was a symbol of the Holy Spirit. By which Jesus was anointed for the ministry and life. Lk. 4:18; Acts. 10:38.

 

Birth of Jesus

1. The prophecy of his birth.  Isa. 9:6

2. The place of his birth.  Mic. 5:2

3. The sign of his birth.  Isa. 7:14

4. The proclamation of his birth. Lk. 2:10

5. The royalty of his birth.  Mt. 2:2

 

 

The Uniqueness of Jesus

1.  No word he spoke needed modification. No extra word, no exaggeration, no half truth, no mis–statement, no quick words.

2.  He never apologized for word or action, never asked for pardon. apologizing is good; yet he did nothing to apologize.

      3.  He confessed no sin. The holiest men of all ages have confessed.

But, “any of you prove me. . .of sin?” said Jesus. Jn. 8:46

    4.  He never sought advice even from the wisest men of his days.

From Moses to even King Solomon sought advice of others.

5.  He never asked or permitted prayer for himself. He did invite his disciples to pray with him and not for him. Mt. 26:36.

 

Divinity of Jesus

These are the seven witnesses of the divinity of Jesus

1. The witness of God’s Word. Is. 9:6

2. The witness of God the Father. Heb. 1:8, 11

3. The witness of Jesus himself. Jn. 8:46, 58

4. The witness of the angel of God.  Lk. 1:2

5. The witness of the apostle. Jn. 20:28

6. The witness of a Gentile. Jn. 18:38

7. The witness of a demon. Mk. 1:24

 

 

The Teaching of Jesus

1. He taught with authority. “I tell you the truth. . .” Jn. 3:3.

2. He taught with simplicity. Lost Sheep, Lost Son. . . Lk. 15:4, 11.

3. He taught with major themes, repentance, kingdom. . .  Mk. 1:15.

4. He taught with morality, not to be angry. . .  Mt. 5:22.

5. He taught with practicality. “Go and do likewise” Lk. 10:37.

6. He taught with anointing. “The Spirit. . .is on me” Lk. 4:18.

7. He taught with novelty. “A new command. . .  .” Jn. 13:34

 

 

The Purpose of Jesus’ Coming

These are some of the purpose of Jesus; coming in his own words:

1.  “I have come. . .the Law to fulfill” Mt. 5:17.

2.  “I have not come to call the righteous but sinners” Mt. 9:13.
 

3.  “I have come to. . .bring. . .but a sword” Mt. 10:34.

4.  “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost” Lk. 19:10.

5.  “To preach that is why I have come” Mk. 1:38.

6.  “The Son of Man  came to  serve and to  give his life. .  .” Mt. 20:28.

7.  “He has sent me to release the oppressed” Lk. 4:18.

8.  “I have come down from heaven to do the will of him who sent me” Jn. 6:38.

9.  “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full” Jn. 10:10.

10. “For this I came into the world, to testify to the truth” Jn. 18:37.

 

The Lifestyle of Jesus

1.  His life was centerd around doing his Father’s will. Jn. 4:34

2.  His life was centerd by doing everything in the power of his

Father. Jn. 5:19, 30

3.  His life was centerd around Doing things for the Glory of His

Father. Jn. 17:4

4.  His life was centerd around fulfilling righteousness. Mt. 3:15

5.  His life was centerd around doing good to all who were in Need.

Acts. 10:38

6.  His life was centerd around praying for his followers. Lk. 22:32; Jn. 17:20

7.  His life was centerd around loving his own to the full extent.

Jn. 13:1

 

 

The Sufferings of Jesus

In Isaiah 53 we see the sevenfold picture of the suffering Messiah

1. The picture of a DISFIGURED Messiah. v. 2

2. The picture of a DESPISED Messiah. v. 3

3. The picture of a SORROWFUL Messiah. v. 3

4. The picture of a SMITTEN Messiah. v. 4

5. The picture of a PIERCED Messiah. v. 5


6. The picture of a CRUSHED Messiah. v. 5

7. The picture of an OPPRESSED Messiah. v. 7

 

 

What do You Think about the  Christ?

1.  To the artist—he is the one altogether lovely. Song 5:16

2.  To the sculptor—he is the living stone. 1 Pet. 2:4

3.  To the baker—he is the bread of life. Jn.6:35

4.  To the banker—he is the hidden treasure. Mt. 13:44

5.  To the biologist—he is the life giver. Jn .10:10

6.  To a mason—he is the sure foundation. Is.28:16

7.  To a physician—he is the greatest physician. Lk. 5:31

8.  To a teacher—he is the master teacher. Jn.13:13

9.  To a farmer—he is the heavenly sower. Mk.4:14

10. To a geologist—he is the spiritual rock. 1 Co. 10:4

11. To a gardener—he is the true vine. Jn.15:1

12. To a judge—he is the righteous judge. 2 Tim. 4:8

13. To an adovcate—he is the faithful witness. Rev. 3:14

14. To a jeweler—he, is the pearl of great value. Mt. 13:46

15. To an editor—he is the good news. Lk.2:10

16. To a philosopher—he is the wisdom of God.  1 Cor. 1:24

17. To the lost—he is the way. Jn. 14:6

18. To the seeker—he is the truth.  Jn. 14:6

19. To the weary—he is the rest. Mt. 11:28

20. To a sinner—he is the savior. 1 Tim. 1:15

Therefore, christ is all, and he is in all. Col. 3:11
