A Christian couple I have been counseling, have asked me some questions, that has made it very difficult for me to give them a reasonable answer.
This is the issue at hand, they have had one child with absolutely no problem, but have not been able to have another. It has now been over 4 yrs.
They come with this scripture.
Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
The question they ask is.
We are Christians, we love children, we want to have more.
There is another couple that we know, that have been separated from their spouses, neither one legally, and no divorce to date, so they are living in an adulterous relationship, but within a 3 yr. period of time they have had 2 more children besides the 2 the man had from his marriage.
If scripture is true, why does God allow the heritage of children to those living in sin, but then deny this same heritage to those that are trying to live a moral life.
We have already gone through
And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
More than anything it is the apparent inequity found in scripture that is causing difficulties.
There is the feeling as though they have displeased God, but can’t figure out how.
Why can someone have one child so easily, and then the womb be closed.
After 4 yrs. of trying and praying, and being prayed for. They are standing in faith, with the high praise of God upon their lips, depending on the Lord.
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
