Privacy policy

Our privacy policy will be progressively developing on this page.  To summarize it quickly:

All website administrators are able to trace user movements and actions to some extent (eg. what pages you came to our site from, what IP address you access the internet through, and so on).  We only use this data in aggregate to see where our traffic is coming from (eg. which sites and countries have the highest percentages).  We will make exceptions to this general policy if we have good reason to suspect malicious usage on the part of particular visitors.

Our policies on common privacy and security issues are detailed below.

Our site will use a single cookie to identify you, if you login.

Add a link 2.  User Accounts and Passwords

When you create a user account you agree to conduct yourself with gentleness and respect toward the other users of this service.  Should this not be possible for you, we reserve the right to deny the services and revoke the privileges that we made available to you on that condition.

Although an administrator can replace or randomize your password, should the need arise, they cannot tell you what your password is — it is stored in an encrypted form that they cannot access.  It is important that you choose a good hint in case you forget.  (You will be prompted to change your password when you first log in, and can have it emailed to yourself if you fail a login.)

Add a link 3.  Email Addresses And Correspondence

When you create a user account, we request an email address.  In fact, because we email your initial (random) password to that email address, you can't ever login to a new account without having supplied a valid address.  This is used (and not used) in several important ways:

  • We will never disclose your email address to any other organization or individual, nor will we contact you on their behalf.  (Unless you try to use the site for some illegal purpose, in which case we will cooperate with any relevant authorities.)
  • We may use your email address to notify you of major site developments during the period in which you maintain an account here.  (You can delete your account at any time.)
  • Other current users will be able to email you through the email form associated with your home page.  The two of you will only be known to each other by your account names:  neither will see the other's email address at any time.
  • In the unlikely event that an administrator will need to contact you in regard to your user account, they will be able to do so.

There is nothing to prevent you changing your email address to something completely misleading after you receive your password, just make sure you don't ever forget your password if you do that.
