Music
I am a skilled musician. However after reading some of the comments I am wondering about what I am doing. I play music for worship and for a living. It is my means of support for me and my family. I sometimes play in venues that have nothing to do with religion. Yet I play spiritual music. The music is not being used as worship but rather for an income. Am I right to do so?
This is my profession and the church that I attend can not afford to pay me.

Glorify God with your talents. Be in the world, but not of the world. Paul made tents in addition to being a teacher of the law. Do not cast your pearls before swine- don't play gigs that glorify sinful activities or lifestyles. If the venues are wrong you shouldn't play them- seek other sources of income with your musical talents. These are just some helpful thoughts. God will give you discernment if you ask Him for it.
Trances
Trances can be of God too though.
"I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was."---Acts 11:5

Were not supposed to try or let anyone else try to put us under a trance but if directed by the Holy Spirit than its okay.

If God uses it/them they are not inferior at all. Following God is not for the faint of heart, as we all know it is more difficult to do the right thing on a daily basis in our lives - then it is to do the wrong - taking the easy way out.

Music in heaven
It amazes me how many times I hear that Satin was in charge of music in heaven. There is not a passage anywhere in the Bible to support this claim. Some people use Ezekiel 28:13 to support this claim, but this only works if you use the KJV and stretch it quite a bit. The only modern translation that even mentions “pipes and tambours” is the NKJV and that is because it is based on the KJV. Anyway, to use this argument to condemn modern music means that you must condemn all music or you have to say that Satin was really late in coming up with this plan to corrupt men. Music is a wonderful creation from God. It can be misused and corrupted like other creations from God. Lyrics are what delivers the message, either to curse God or to praise Him. If a song praises the Lord I do not consider it evil. If a song curses the Lord or promotes sin than it is evil and should be avoided and condemned. Psalm 92:1 “It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High.”
Pounding Our Shingles
It seems we are under a great deal of spiritual attack today. I believe there is a furious battle raging in the unseen world about us. Chaos seems to be the offshoot of all this in individuals, in families, in communities, and so on.
Other venues of demonic power include getting out from under the Shadow of the Almighty - disobedience, lying, stealing, immorality, anger, fear, and so on.
HaSatan does not want people to obey the Eternal One. The Church has opened herself way up by believing lies and observing traditions of man in place of biblical feasts and sabbaths. The lie of evolution has flourished in such soil.
Spiritual Attacks
It's interesting that you mention an increase of spiritual attacks. My friends and I have noticed the same thing. The enemy is going after our kids and finances. My 13 year old was hearing voices and seeing monsters. Our business has been under attack but as of last night I just wonder if God is using it to reach my husband. He's not saved but he defends me and my faith against his family when they attack Christians. Last night, while discussing marketing, he took my hand for the first time ever and told me to pray. I was so stunned I almost didn't know what to say. Except, Thank You. It's going to be interesting to see what happens to all of us when we come out of the fire. God promised to protect us and bring us through the tough times as long as we stay focused on him. Sometimes that is even difficult. Fortunately, there is always a beginning and an ending to each day so that we can.
My friend told me that because we are getting closer to the end, Satan is freaking out and has stepped up his campaign against us. On the other hand, it's not like we are being fed to the lions for our faith so we can be grateful for that. A woman Dr. from Iran said in an interview that the members of the Iranian government wanted her to practice medicine here so that she could gather personal information about her patients. They wanted to know where all the Christians and Jews lived because when the time was right they planned to slaughter the Jews first, next Christians, after that everyone else that would not convert. Being a caring Dr. she managed to sneak out and is living under armed guard in Canada. Maybe, they are our lions. We ignore them at our peril, I know that. As God said however, we do not battle flesh, we battle prinicipalities and only God can fight that one for us. We have to rely upon our gov't. the keep the flesh away and be grateful that the President we have now starts every day in prayer and asks for the Lord's guidance. Hopefully, the next one will as well.
I'm thinking that the more of us that are aware of what is going on will only increase the amount of prayer going up to heaven. God will hear a shout instead of a whimper.

As the enemy is seeking to destroy Christians in these last days, all children of God must suffer for Christ, for those who endure to the end will overcome. I feel i need to share what my grandmother has had dreams about. My grandma has had dreams about muslims invading the US through Canada. And she has had dreams about them killing Christians that won't convert. Please pray about this.

Well I agree with all you say here except for the phrase "in place of biblical feasts and sabbaths".
In the New Testament, living in our Savior Jesus Christ (you can use the Hebrew version if you prefer) IS the substance of these things, which are only shadows which point to him.

On Biblical Feasts and Martial Arts
Just a few thoughts and a question. I very definitely agree with the lady on the high sabbaths, they are "forever, throughout your generations" and the Christian holy days are all directly correlated to pagan sabbaths, including Halloween which is the eve of All Saint's Day. Doesn't it make more sense to keep the same holidays that Yahshua (Jesus Messiah) kept before the Pope "changed the times and seasons"? We're messianic, which is very close to christian and we should be brothers. Yes we believe the New Testament when Paul said that these holidays were a "FORESHADOW of things TO COME." Just as Jesus fulfilled Passover and the Spring biblical high days, He comes to fulfill the Fall Feasts as well. Feast of Trumpets - the trumpets will sound. Day of Atonement - Great White Throne Judgment. Feast of Tabernacles - Yahweh lives with us (tabernacles) forever. Even the Spring Feasts were fulfilled only in the intermediary, a second Exodus described in the OT, "in that day they will no more speak of when Yahweh led the children of Israel from the land of Egypt, but of when He led them from all the countries where He has scattered them" (paraphrase). Indeed, all of the punishments and Exiles in the whole Bible are result of Israel not keeping the High Sabbaths, but instead integrating paganism! Read it! Paul also said, "therefore let us keep the Feast." Jesus said, Think not that I have come to destroy the Law and the Prophets, I did not come to destroy, but to fulfill. And, til heaven and earth pass, not one jot or tittle shall pass away from the Law. And, whosoever teaches to disobey the least commandment shall be called least in the Kingdom. And, Man shall live by every word ever breathed from the mouth of Yahweh. Paul said, let no man judge you but the body of Christ. "of" is in italics in the KJV, meaning it was added by the original translaters.

On martial arts
I remain of the view that the power source of martial arts is demonic. Lots of demonic things are fun group activities you can do with friends. We had a great time playing Dungeons and Dragons together as kids - but I still needed deliverance from it afterwards.
God hasn't cleansed it, it has a real power source and it ain't God.

So if I read the points of entry on the occult list, is this list stating that if we partake in a martial art, such as jujitsu like my son is learning, that this may be a point of entry? My son is saved, but is he in danger during this class/workout?

I think they are a point of entry. Maybe its a co-incidence, but after my 21 year old brother started doing martial arts, against my warnings, he suddenly died, without further warning, though he was a Christian, and I am sure was saved. Could be a co-incidence, but I think there is a spirit of death at work in some of these martial arts practices.

In my country in the central Pacific, we have a local martial art that our people believe is far superior than Asian martial arts. Like other skills, it is not easy to share except to only close members of family, or even to sons only.
The origin of these martial arts however was associated with some gods-spirits (not GOD) and it is well known that the Masters of these martial arts practice certain taboos and magics as part of the art. The gods are with them as they kind of having 4 eyes, whereby when they are attacked suddenly from the back, by knife or other means, the attacker would instantly fell to his disappointment to the ground without harm to the Master!

White magic is certainly an entry point for demonic bondage. It all comes from evil spirits, but these spirits know how to present themselves as beautiful spirit beings most of the time. From what I have heard, spirit guides cannot always succeed in hiding their evil nature, so they teach their victims to love and embrace "dragons", "evil" as well.

just want to tell you you are right... the martial arts, as well as any other east-culture things (hypnosis, meditation, imagery...etc) are extremely dangerous. I heard several times "well, I can do it, I have it under my control" and then I could see very subtle losing of trust. Not faith, but personal relationship with God became unumportant. SATAN DOES THESE THINGS STEP BY TEP... we must avoid everything that keeps us from His presence.
Once I was in these things, now I am saved, by the mercy of Jesus. And since that moment I just cannot do the both things - e.g. do yoga and worship Lord. And its worth consideration.

In Rebecca Brown's book "Setting the Captives Free" she relates the story of her friend Elaine who claims to have been a high priestess and endued with much demonic power. The witches would enter into combat using their demons to battle one another. The battles would happen to be in the martial arts realm and powers of leaping extraordinary heights and so on were part of the manifestations these forces weilded in martial arts. I don't know what to make of that book, but when you bow to a room, you are duped. I believe there is a higher power there.

The generation that sang along to that in the UK (a little older than me) were at the forefront of something very sinister and nihilistic. I don't think it was created by the music.
I think it was created by the generation before and their sexual habits - which meted out sexual abuse of children...these children then grew up to be the angry punks, dressing in child-like ways, and making themselves ugly.
And the punk movement was famously anti-sex, which again, can be an attitude of those who survive sexual abuse.

Why rock music? If it is an issue with lyrics then not all rock music is bad. A lot of it is angry and dark but a lot of rock bands sing about social justice and there are a lot of christian rock bands. I find that pop is just as bad with its overt references to extra marital sex.

Ok. But as far as I am concerned I would not put myself consciously in trance to talk to God. It's a great danger of being misled by a demon pretending is an angel of light (I think all the cases are the same), and I wouldn't recommend this practice to anyone.
e.g. Mr Somebody tried hard to put Ms Prudence in trance at night while she was sleeping, to influence her behaviour. After some time his friends succeded, although Ms Prudence was a serious christian. (...) Ms Prudence had apparitions of somebody who was not alive anymore (in very deep dream state) and when realised that was not true, the person told the aparition, it's not the one she was pretending to be as that person is dead; so that image changed the shape. After a while, the person was having apparitions of devil and demons, and night attacks of dragons, dreaming of Dalai Lama wanting to shake her hand, hearing voices, confusion, ideas of reincarnation were coming in her head from nowhere, ESP sensations, psychic attacks and the list goes on.
Are you willing to take the chance to open yourself to some supernatural realm that you can't handle on your own, and than it will cause confusion in your head to guide you astray?

But I have read in the bible that the prophets feel into trances and that they sometimes used music to this effect. I do know however that certain tribal recordings you can buy of shamanic music are designed to call spirits-kind of like how our worship songs are designed to call Gods Spirit to us.
But my understanding of binural beats is that they can put you in trances and yes, if you want to then use that state to ask tree spirits advice then you deserve everything you get. But if you use the trance to meet with God then I feel that its OK since they did this in the bible.

Its OK if God puts you into a trance but using music to achieve that state of mind on your own initiative strikes me as a dangerous practice.
Its true that prophets did call for musicians but I doubt it was raucous music they used. And it doesn't say that they went into trances as a result. Probably the praise and worship opened the door for God to move quite apart from trances or altered states of consciousness. You don't have to be in a trance to prophesy.
Why is rock music considered demonic?
I am asking this in all sincerity-why rock music? I can understand if its a problem with the lyrics, but the rock songs I listen to are about social issues. I dont listen to angry or God hating stuff. Generally I find that pop is far more sexually suggestive than rock.
Is there a problem with the actual sound of the music? What about christian rock?
The spirit of music.
It can be extremely difficult to hear the voice of God amidst the clamour of our everyday lives.
While it is obvious that some musical genres are completely demonic, death metal, gangster rap as two examples.
A lot of music can be hard to discern.
The effects of music upon our souls will invariably depend upon the spirit in which it is written and performed.
Music that is played at the same tempo as our heart rate can cause some kind of physical effect in us. A gradual increase in the BPM of a song, can cause our heart rate to increase accordingly.
Similarly, certain frequencies can also cause some change in us.
The vibrations of certain notes can shatter glass so what can they do to our bodies?
If we listen to music, we are choosing to allow our senses to receive something which will effect the way we feel, for good or bad.
The bible says in Romans 12, that, concerning spiritual gifts, "The manifestation of the spirit is given to each one for the common good", later in the chapter, Paul exhorts us to "eagerly desire the greater gifts".
The Holy Spirit gift of discernment is needed to determine the spirit of any kind of influence upon our lives, whether it is art, music, education, friendships and even our fellowship and teachings within the church.
If we are struggling to hear what the Lord is saying to us concerning what we listen to, then we should stop listening and seek the Lords direction first.
God made music for us and we should worship him with it.
This is a difficult issue
Some rock music is really demonic, God hating and even the medium is part of the message. But I have friends who are godly people who write and play rock music. It doesn't really do anything for me, but I have to be careful.
I think it gets down to the reason and motivation in the music, but some of the modern music is such rubbish musically its hard to believe that God would want to use it. Then again, God has worked with all kinds of inferior things over the years, so who I am to say.
