I was going to post a big long article about this and about my study of the Scriptures concerning it, but I think it would be best for all of us if we did a dialogue on this. Post the things that you find is wrong about certain ways to witness. Different Scriptures encouraging evangelism, and more specifically, how to evangelize.
I have dealt with many “methods” and ways to evangelize, but I have found many points wrong with it. I know that ignorance has a lot to do with it and I know that “being set in your ways” or even being misled is part of it. Concerning this I must only echo the words of God: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightfully dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15. Not only this, but as a generic principle that is used for a number of things throughout the NT: “Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren.”
I tried witnessing using one of the common methods out there, and I was turned away from it. Since then I have been weary about doing it and I’ve been very lazy about it. This is wrong, and I won’t pass the blame off on something or someone else. Since then I have been studying the Word of God concerning evangelism and I have found much about how to do it as well as different marks to the Message, the messenger, the results and consequences. It’s difficult, because I seem to want to learn how to do this without actually doing it, yet this is a thing that has to be done by both doing it and studying it, never one or the other.
Anyways, if you all want to post your comments and experiences about evangelism here, please, feel free! As for me, I’m going to get myself in gear and start getting some of my own painful experiences under my belt. Maybe God will bless me with plenty of persecution, maybe some beatings or imprisonments. Maybe then this town I live in, and the church I go to would know there is a God and that there is a cost to serve Him. This is much needed as there are many “stand-stills” within the churches of this community.
Please pray for me and the progress of this all.
