House Divided part1 of 3

I want to teach a little bit on the division we have everywhere we look today and what can happen when you have unity. I really feel like this is important. And I feel like for us to have the spirit of God operating in our lives; we need to understand this. I want to try and hit on a lot of different things tonight.

Joshua was getting ready to go into the promised land and if you will remember the children of Israel the first time they had shot at this thing they failed, and they spent forty years in the wilderness because of the bad report that was brought with the ten spies. They started complaining and I will cover that a little bit tonight to. And it turned the whole congregation of Israel against Moses and against God, and they where not able to go and possess the land. So now then Joshua is getting ready o take a shot at this thing. So Joshua does things a little differently. And in Joshua chapter 6 before they go to Jericho in verse 10 look what he says. 10: Joshua commanded the people saying you shall not shout nor let your voice be heard, nor let a word proceed out of your mouth until the day I tell you to shout. So he saw forty years earlier what happened when he people opened their mouth. And I think that is pretty interesting. Joshua said keep your mouth shut.

Can you imagine for a week this went on. Because they marched around the city everyday for six days and on the seventh day they went seven times around the city. So they could not speak for a week. Now that is one way to get into unity. Keep your mouth shut for a week. Can you imagine the eye signals they where giving one another, and all the faces they where making at one another. I can just see that. But Joshua said I want you to be quiet for a week. You can’t say one word, don’t shout until I tell you to.

Now do you think we ought to try that here? Try that in your home and see how that works. You see talk can kind of cause a lot of division can’t it? It is very easy. You open your mouth and the next thing you know you have trouble in your life.

Now skipping down to verse 17: the city shall be under the band, it and all that is in it belongs to the Lord. So the first city that they went after. They said this does not belong to you. God is kind of funny about the first things. The first things belong to Him. God is supposed to be first. And He says this city does not belong to you; none of the stuff in it belongs to you. It belongs to me. So you have got to put God first in everything that you do, and I think this is something that we have not understood. It is like people that want to give to the Lord say well I will wait till the end of the month and if I have anything left to give; I will give it to Him. That is not giving God first. Now this is something I have found out; that whatever you do first usually gets done. Whatever you do second; sometimes does not get done. The money you give first; gets used. The money you wait to use is usually never there. So that is one of the reasons why God is suppose to be first. Now Rahab the harlot and all who are with her in her house shall live. Because she hid the messengers whom we sent. 18:But as for you, only keep yourselves from the things under the ban. So that you do not covet them and take some of these things under the ban and make the camp of Israel accursed and bring trouble on it. He said if you take something that I told you not to take, or If you take something I have cursed then it will cause the whole camp to be cursed. 19: All the silver and gold and articles of bronze and iron are holy to the Lord and they shall go into the treasury of the Lord.

22: And Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land. Go to the harlot’s house, bring the woman and all that she has out of there as you have sworn to her . I think it is pretty interesting he did not say go get the harlot. Because I am thinking, now she is not a harlot anymore. He said go to the harlot’s house and bring out the woman. In other words there way of looking at her was a little different now. Do you see what I am saying now? Joshua did not say to go get that harlot. He said go to the harlot’s house and bring the woman out. So there is a house of harlotry. This is one of the things that I have taught on before that one of the things they dealt with going into the promise land was the harlot, and I have been teaching on harlotry. So they dealt with harlotry and they won the harlot over and that is the way they where able to take Jericho. And this harlot was delivered from this harlotry. You know that Rahab was in the lineage of David. She was like the great, great, great, great grandmother of king David. So she was in the lineage of David and also in the lineage of Jesus which is pretty interesting. Verse 25: However Rahab the harlot and her father’s household, and all she had, Joshua spared, and she has lived in the midst of Israel to this day. For she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

26: Then Joshua made them take a oath at the time. And they said cursed before the Lord is the man who rises up and builds this city Jericho. With the loss of his first born shall he lay this foundation and the loss of his youngest son shall he set up his gates  . He said anybody who tries to rebuild will be cursed. There is a scripture in Hebrews where it says if you rebuild what was once destroyed you prove yourself to be a transgressor of the law. This is the problem here. When you go in and you deal with stuff in your life and you cast stuff down, and you get delivered. Then all of the sudden you go back and you rebuild it back up. It’s a bad deal. He said you are cursed if you rebuild. Do you see what I am saying? He said if you rebuild what you once destroyed then I prove myself to be a transgressor of the law. So what we are supposed to be doing. We are supposed to be putting these things to death. We are suppose to be dying to these things. If we go back and build it back up. You wind up getting cursed. Because that thing is supposed to be destroyed. Now what God has destroyed; I want it to stay destroyed.

So they destroyed the whole city and in Joshua chapter 7:1. 1: But the sons of Israel acted unfaithfully in regard to the things under the ban. For Achan the son Carmi the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah. Isn’t it interesting that he named the whole lineage of Achan? Maybe the rest of his ancestors had problems also. It is very interesting that he named all the ancestors. From the tribe of Judah took some of the things under the ban. Therefore the anger of the Lord burned against the sons of Israel. Now if you will remember when they got ready to go into the promise land the first time. Ten men talked the whole country out of going in. Ten people who where in division and weren’t in unity with the Lord and Joshua and Caleb and they talked everyone out of going into the promise land. Now then they have gone into the land. They dealt with the harlot. The city came down, but one man disobeyed out of the whole bunch and took something that he was not suppose to take. Lets see how God responded to that. 2: Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to AI which is near Bethaven east of Bethel and said go up and spy out the land. So the men went up and spied out the land. 3: And they returned to Joshua and said don’t let all the people go up. Just let two or three thousand people go up to AI. Because AI was not all that big. Do not make all the people toil up there for they are few. But now they have fought one battle. They cast out one devil and now they think they know what to do. They think they are real warriors. They just started this war and God destroyed this city. So they said we don’t have to go full force lets just send a few thousand men up there. 4: So about three thousand men from the people went up there and they fled before the men of AI. 5: The men of AI struck down about 36 of their men and pursued them from the gate as far Shebarim and struck them down on the descent so that the hearts of the people melted and became as water.

So here they are. They’ve captured this big city and they take it down and then they go up to this little city with three thousand men and they fail. This is the thing. We are not suppose to fail in our warfare. We are suppose to win the war. We have got to get past this failure mentality and get into this mentality that we are suppose to win. 6: And Joshua tore his clothes and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the Lord until evening. Both he and the elders of Israel, they put dust on their heads. Look at what they are doing. 7: And Joshua said, Alas oh Lord why did you ever bring this people over the Jordan. Does that sound familiar? Why did you ever bring us out and why did you do that? Have you ever said Lord why did bring me down this road? Why did I ever do this? Everything was going so good and now I have got hell in everyplace and why did you let this happen? Blah, blah, blah, blah! So even Joshua is having this problem. Only to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us. If only we had been willing to dwell beyond the Jordan. I mean look at this thing.

This one man’s sin caused the whole nation to fail in war and now the leader is saying I am doubting God. Why did we ever do this? Why did we not just stay where we where? Why did we try to push on? Have you ever been like that? Well I was doing okay when I was back here in the first church of the frozen chosen. Everything was okay. Now all of the sudden I am going down this road and hell’s against me. I wish I had stayed on the other side. I should have stayed on the other side of Dallas. I should have never come out here to the dessert in Rockwall. Do you see what Joshua is saying here? If only we had just been willing to dwell beyond the Jordan. 8: Oh Lord what can I say since Israel since Israel has turned their back to their enemies. 9: For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the Land will hear of it. They will surround us. They will cut off our name from the earth. I mean look at Joshua right now. He is ready to give up the ship. He is ready to throw the whole thing and they are going to die. Have you ever felt like that, where something happened to you and you got slapped up side the head, and everything went bad and you are ready to quit the whole thing? Anybody ever felt like that? And they are going to cut off our name from the earth and what will you do for your great name. He said not only are they going to cut off our name, but you are going to look pretty bad God. Can you imagine telling God that? Like, God you are going to look really bad you better fix this thing. What a way to come to God. Your name is not going to look to good because of us.

This next part always cracks me up. 10: So the Lord said to Joshua. Rise up! Why have you fallen on your face? I mean God is not hearing any of that stuff. He is saying what are you doing down on your face? And you know there are a lot of times when things are not going right, and we are crying out, Oh God do this! Oh God do that! And God is saying get up and shut up. I am tired of hearing it. How many times do we pray and God is saying I ‘m tired of listening to that stuff, just shut up. I have had people come to me before and I have told them I am tired of listening to that just shut up. I have told people that! I know if I get tired of it that God has to get tired of it. But you have got to know when to shut up. That’s why Joshua told the people to keep their mouth shut. Because they did not know when to shut up and even Joshua did not know when to shut up.

And God’s having a conversation and now He says 11:Israel has sinned. There is a reason things are not going the right way. You see again we are suppose to win. We are suppose to defeat the enemy; he is not suppose to defeat us. They have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. They have taken some of the things under the ban. They have both stolen and deceived. And they have put them among their own things. They took the things of God. They stole it. They deceived everybody and they hid it among their own stuff. God associated the sin of one with the whole group. And maybe that is a problem we have today in our families, maybe your business, maybe churches, or ministries. One person can shut everything down. I have seen it in families. Where one family member wants to go on with God and the other on doesn’t and it shuts down the whole cotton picking thing in the family. One person can shut down. One child can shut down the family or a husband and a wife. But one man shut down the whole nation of Israel in their war. 12: Therefore the sons of Israel can not stand before their enemies. They turned their backs for they have become accursed. In other words they took something that was a cursed and then they are cursed. And that is why when you are dealing in witchcraft and deliverance and things like that. You bring cursed things into your house then it can bring curses into your house. I have seen this when praying with people. It is very important. God said that stuff is cursed; it belongs to me. You can’t have it. They brought it into the camp and they cursed the whole camp because of that one man.

So how many times do we have things going on in our lives and our spouse does not even know about it? Joshua does not know about it. He is thinking God is upset with him. He is thinking what is going on here. We should have never gone down this road, but all along it was one man who was not in unity with what God was saying. Everybody else was okay with what God said, but this one guy said I don’t want to do it that way. I want to do it this way. You know this is the thing we have got to get to in hearing God. We have got to hear God and we have got to know when God says to do something. Then we have got to get into agreement and lets all do it. Otherwise you will end up just like this. This is why a lot of places never get anywhere in the ministry and why churches never go to the place that God wants them is because you can not get in agreement. Now God is saying to Joshua. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy the things under the ban from your midst. In other words. If they did not take care of this problem right here and right now. They where shut down.

They could not go on in their life. This is the thing you have to look at in your life. I have had this happen to me. Because I did not know. I tell the story about when I was in a particular church and I got baptized in the spirit and I ended up leaving, but I did not leave right. I did not leave the right way. I was kind of stupid. I did not really know what I was doing, and I did not know how to handle it. And I was under a twenty year curse and did not even know it. I don’t have time to go into all that, but I was under it. But God told me to go back and leave properly and I did and everything changed immediately in my life and in my ministry. But this had to be dealt with in my life and then there was change. Many times things are going in our lives and in our families that we have not dealt with things properly and you are not going to go any further until you deal with it.

Anyway, the deliberate sin and rebellion of one man shut the whole camp down. A man can curse is own family and house by bringing unclean things into your house. You can bring unclean things into your house and curse the whole house. Why do you think the devil makes internet pornography so open and easy to get to? He can curse your whole household by stuff like that. I had to pray for somebody, and this has been a while back, and there where magazines that had been brought in that was not what you would call a bad magazine, but it had advertising in it that was bad. And it caused problems in the home. It is amazing the little things.

God told Joshua somebody has done this, and they find out it is Achan. And they go through a process. So lets skip down to verse twenty. 20: So Achan answers Joshua and says truly, I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel and this is what I did. 21: When I saw among the spoil a beautiful mantle from Shinar and two hundred shekels of silver and a bar of gold, fifty shekels in weight, then I coveted them and I took them. So what was the real issue they where dealing with? It was covetousness. The covetousness in the man caused him to disobey. Do you see what I am saying? That greed and that covetousness went out after something that God told him not to take. And I think I was teaching last Sunday about covetousness. The bible says covetous people will not inherit the kingdom of God. Have you ever read that? You ought to read that. Everybody in America ought to read that. We look at sins like adultery, murder, and things like that, but covetousness is one. God shut the whole country down because of the covetousness of one man. Isn’t that amazing? So covetousness shut down the whole thing. He said behold they are sealed in the earth inside my tent with the silver underneath it. 22: So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent and behold it was concealed in his tent and the silver was underneath it.

you ever concealed something? If you conceal something you need to know there is probably sin and rebellion tied to it somewhere to that thing. If you are concealing it and hiding it. If you are sneaking around trying to hide something from people then guess what? Something is not right. So just look at your life and see what am I hiding from everybody? What is it that I don’t want anybody to know about? What is it that is concealed in my tent? What have you hid and concealed in your tent or your heart?

What have you dug around and hidden deep in your heart that nobody knows about? God is going to expose those things that are hidden. We can’t hide stuff from God. See, this man Achan, hid it from everybody in camp. Nobody knew. Only person who knew was God. So a lot of times we can hide things, but on the outside we can look like we are going with the flow but on the inside we have something different going on. Outwardly Achan looked like he was unity and that he was one of the bunch, but inside he was not. So you never know. It talks about the false prophets. Outwardly they are sheep but inside they are wolves. So the false prophets look good on the outside to everybody.

23: So they took him outside the tent and they brought them to Joshua and all the sons of Israel and they poured it out before the Lord. 24: Then Joshua and all of Israel with him to Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the mantle, the bar of gold, the sons, the daughters, the oxen, the donkeys, the sheep, his tent, and all that was with him. I mean they took everything he had. They killed his sheep, his donkey, his dogs. They killed his pet fish.

We baby sat pastor Soto’s pet fish this week. Brother Soto has a pet fish. The fish’s name is Tito Soto. So we got up every morning at five and prayed with that fish. That is what he said we had to do. I told him I was going to turn him loose out in my pond.

But look what they did to Achan here. They not only killed the man, but they killed his sons. Killed his daughters. Killed his oxen. I guess they killed his wife too. It does not say. His donkeys, his sheep. They killed everything that belonged to him. In other words that one man caused the death of everybody in his family not mention the other thirty six men who lost their lives in the battle of Ai because he would not listen to the Lord. He would not get into unity with what God was saying and he coveted the gold and stuff. The whole family died because of that. Lack of unity with God shut down the whole bunch.

Now lets look at what can happen when there is unity. Turn to Genesis 11. This is a amazing story about the tower of Babel. Lets look at what can happen when you have some unity. 1: Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words. I wonder what they where speaking? They where all speaking the same language and the same words. 2: It came about when they journeyed east that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and they settled there. 3: And they said to one another. Come let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly and they use brick for stone. And they used tar for mortar. 4: And they said come let us build for ourselves the city and a tower who’s tower’s top will reach into heaven and let us make for ourselves a name.

We are going to make for ourselves a name. Make for ourselves a name like the first church of Rockwall, or the second Baptist church of Royse City. I don’t know, but they are going to make a name for themselves. Isn’t that amazing? The purpose of the building project was to make a name themselves. It was not to make a name for God. Do you see what I am saying? Let us make for ourselves a name. We will build a city and a tower into heaven and make a name for ourselves. Otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth. So their motivation was not exactly right. Their motivation was about their own survival, making a name for themselves, and building their own religious structure to get to God. That is religion right there. That is where all religion started. Right there in the tower of Babel. That is man’s way of getting to God. Build a city and build a tower. Then we will build our way right up into heaven. That is still going on today isn’t it? It hasn’t changed. Trying to get to God your way. The city and the tower is a man made religious system. That is what it is.

5: The Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. 6: And the Lord said behold they are one people. They all have the same language. And this is what they began to do. Now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. In other words because those people got in unity to do this one thing, God said nothing will be impossible for them. So you can see the importance of unity in doing anything for God. These people had wrong motives and the wrong motivation, but they where going to accomplish what they started out to do even though God was not in the picture to do it. Do you see what I am saying? They could have done that on their own. So that is amazing. So does that mean that you can have unity around a religious system and make it work and build a big tower and a big city and it look really good? And everybody say it is God? If God had stepped back from that, you know what those guys would have been doing? They would have been patting themselves on the back saying Oh what a good boy am I. I have built me a good religious system here. And God is in the middle of this. Do you see what I am saying?

You can build something and it can look really good, but it still will not be God. Because that is what would have happened there. It would have looked really good. It probably would have looked better than anything we have got here in America. You know? So just because something looks good and everybody is in unity to do it does not always mean it’s God does it? But the unity and purpose there made it possible to do great things. Unity brings success.

So lets see how God responds to this. 7: So come let Us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand one another’s speech. You know this is the number one problem I run into when dealing with people in marriages. There is a confusion of the language in the marriages. there is a confusion in the husband and wife’s language to one another. One person is saying one thing and the other person is hearing something else. Everybody knows what I am saying. Ones speaking English and the other is hearing Spanish. What did God do to stop the building? Confused the language. Well now Satan is a copy cat isn’t he? He watches what God does and he imitates it. So what does Satan want to do to stop us? Confuse our language. Break down the communication lines. It is very hard to be in unity when you are speaking two different languages. That is why I have a translator every where I go. So I can understand the language.

8: So the Lord scattered them from abroad from there over the face of the whole earth and they stopped building the city. Confusion of the language brought disunity. Look for confusion. Look where the point of confusion is where the devil is going to work to cause disunity. Have you ever felt confused about things? It causes you to get out of unity with yourself and everything else when confusion comes in. So the devil likes to bring confusion. I have seen this on mission trips. I have been on mission trips where confusion comes in and tries to shut down the whole thing. Confusion brings scattering and division. Satan wants to cause a inability for people to communicate and understand one another. Then comes confusion, division and then scattering. 9: Therefore it’s name was called Babel because there the Lord confused the language of the whole earth and from there the Lord scattered them abroad. So the confusion brought communication problems and then everything scattered.

So Satan wants to do the same thing to people on earth, especially among God’s people in the families, the churches. If Satan can cause communication problems he can shut down almost anything in the family. Everything you want to do in the family gets shut down. Ministry is the same way. That is all Satan has got to do using confusion, communication problems, then comes division then the next thing you know you have scattering or divorce. It’s the same thing or a copy cat of what God used to shut down the city of Babel. If you can ever get into unity in anything then you will see the Spirit of God start working. I will show you this later on. Satan does that in marriages. He does it in families. He does it at work. He does it at church.

I hope you got something out of this!
