Hi Im new and I need help

Hie, My name is Gladen. Im new, Joined a couple of days ago. I hope im able to get the help I so desperately need on this site. I got born again in 2008. To tell the truth I’ve really had a tough time in my christian walk. Yes I’ve made a lot of mistakes along the way, and yes Ive had some victories. I was an alcaholic a chain smoker, Ive been devorced twice, to tell you the truth my past is a mess. Ive been able to over come smoking and drinking, I got married, had a wonderful wedding in church etc. The first thing I need help with is the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the gift of Speaking in tongues. I’ve been prayed for so many times, I’ve actually lost count, and by so many pastors, but I’m not able to speak in tongues. I even read your article here, I’ve bought books on the subject, dvds and CDs but in vain. I’m also facing fianancial problms, in fact the problems are numerous to mention all at once here. I really need help.

What do YOU think?

I have started reading the bible and my plan eventually is to be born again. I am fighting against temptations every day, recently i stopped drinking and my next battle is against smoking. I left drinking by my own will but i feel i need to steadfast in the lord to stop smoking. I recently started fasting for 3 days and i will finish tommorow.
I am also praying to God that things should rapidly change in my life because i know jesus has helped me come this far and i believe i still have a long way to go.
Recently my wives application for her visa was refused and she is with my two kids but i have faith that this decision will be reversed by the Almighty God.
I have always had an interest in religion and always had an open mind. As i mentioned before i am currently reading the bible and hopefully, i should have a better understanding of what makes a good christain.

  2. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given ( as previously stated) to edify the church.God gives the gifts as HE WILLS not as we will.
I too speak in tongues, but it is only one of many God places in the church
    to build it up.

not meaning to confuse anyone but this topic and further reading of the Word has revealed a few things to me:
being baptised with the Holy Spirit does not automatically result in speaking in tongues. speaking in tongues is a gift from the Holy Spirit residing within you so even if u dont speak in tongues,it doesnt mean u do not have the Holy Spirit and 1corinthians 12v11 says As the Holy Spirit wishes,he gives a different gift to each person so even if u dont speak in tongues, u may have the gift of interpreting, healing etc
but i have noticed that if a person doesnt speak in tongues, then it seems (to other people) like something is wrong with them…
its abit tricky but 1corinthians14v12 encourages us to try above everything else to make use of those gifts that help to build the church… and if there aint anyone to interprete tongues then wat good comes to the church filled with ppl speaking in strange tongues.
is it then safe to say that people desire to speak in tongues to assure themselves that indeed the Holy Spirit dwells within them?? please share your thots..

I agree with the lady who said we should seek God for Himself. Myself I started speaking with other tounges when I was praying alone in the mountains. This was before I joined a pentacostal church or received teachings on the Holy Spirit. It is true God looks at your intentions, at your heart.

  6. Thank you all for your advise. To tell you the truth ometimes I think theres really something wrong with me, sometimes I say the sinners prayer over and over again. Ive cofessed my sins a thousand times, Ive cofessed my ancestors sins, you are all right, maybe its because theres something that is not right in me. I admit I still struggle with anger and lust. The more I pray about it, the more I seem to still fall for it. I dont want to give up but it just feels embarassing to be the only one to be prayed for the same thing in church over and over again. Thank you guys and God bless you.

    • Dear Gladen, please know there is nothing wrong with you, satan sees there is far too much RIGHT with you. He wants to keep you down, often those he goes after the most severe are the very ones God plans on using for His glory in a mighty way. Accept and believe Jesus already forgave you for your sins, yesterday today and tomorrow. Now stop! What your doing is buying into the lie that you need to confess over and over until you “feel” forgiven. You will feel forgiven as soon as you accept the fact that Jesus died for you, done deal. I pray I might spare others the pain I endured due to my own ignorance. I use to tell God I thought they were better off in the days where a sacrifice would happen once a year for the forgiveness of sins, I actually believed I’d have been better off BEFORE Jesus died. Because at least a priest would be sacrificing a goat or a bull for my sins, then I could say “whew” I’m off the hook for another year. I listened to “confession”, I thought I was suppose to be feeling horrific over the pathetic sinner that I was. LIES, LIES ALL LIES!!!!! Preachers don’t want to preach the really good news, fearing we’ll see that as a license to sin. The reality is the knowledge and belief that you have already been freed from sin, whether you actually sin in 5 minutes or not, this knowledge has the opposite effect, we do begin to sin less and less. We now experience the freedom in OUR MIND. That’s why the more you pray about it the more you fall. Imagine God looking down at all of us, imagine the scene where Jesus died, IT’S DONE, FINISHED! Yet He looks upon us seeing us throwing ourselves down, putting on the sack cloth and ashes, begging Him to give us what He already has given us. If you must say anything, tell yourself until you believe it “I have already been forgiven, today, tomorrow, next week, five minutes, Gladen, you are righteous, you are sanctified, you are Holy, you are cleansed. When God looks at you, He sees the blood of Jesus, NOT YOUR SINS!!. It’s hard to comprehend, but as soon as you stop trying, you’ll begin to experience the peace.

  7. Hi Gladen, I read your comment on speaking in tongues. About six years ago I joined a charismatic prayer group in my, then catholic church ( am no longer a catholic, through revelation, am now in a Baptist church, however consider myself nothing more than a born again Christian. It was in this prayer group I was first introduced to speaking in tongues. I was a new confused Christian. The main reason I wanted this gift at that time was to really know if indeed the Holy Spirit was in fact in me. I admit I thought it was cool, but knew still so little, I feared the Holy spirit might not be in me. One night on my way home, I told this to God. I said I must know if I have the Holy Spirit in me as well as these other people. I had a Paul Wilbur Christian cd playing. After BOLDLY, asking the Lord, I opened my mouth and WOW, I was certainly speaking in tongues. I hadn’t a clue what I was saying, but I sure knew this, the Holy Spirit and all His love, kindness and mercy confirmed for me that indeed He did now reside in me. God knows our heart and our motives. We should seek God for God alone, and not anything He can do for us. Pray to Him to put those correct motives in your heart and then let it go. I grow closer to God each day whether or not I pray in tongues.Sometimes I feel compelled to and I do. Those who tell us to practice, I’m not in agreement with. Seek God and only God, the love of God, knowing God, not of God but God himself. I was immature and God had mercy on me. Today anything I ask of God I need know my motives. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you, seek God for God and all else will just fall into place. God bless, Kim

  8. Why do you want to speak in tongues?
I think when you submit to the Lord and are willing to do His will, then let Him lead you. You just have to follow. He knows your strengths and your weakness, and will give you the wisdom and the tools you need to do His work. There are other gifts of the Holy Spirit. Right?

    • faithishearing says:

Is speaking in tongues synonymous with being baptized with the Holy Spirit?
Paul said that not all of the Corinthian Christians spoke in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:5), and yet he stated clearly that all had been baptized with the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13).

      • Timothy Luke says:

Speaking in tongues is not synonymous with being baptized in the Holy Spirit. It is a gift, or manifestation of it. Jesus baptized (through his disciples) while he walked the earth, yet we read that at the final evening, he breated on them and said, “receive ye the spirit”. The Holy Spirit of course… YET, fifty days after his resurrection, on Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was poured out and tongues was first given as a gifting…. SO, we see this is a multi-layered topic.

Your point in 1 Corinthians 14 is a great one!

    • I believe the true gift of the Holy Spirit is in fact the Holy Spirit Himself. The miracle that Christ now lives in us and through the power of the Holy Spirit continues to change us into the likeness and image of God should be all we seek. That doesn’t mean I do not believe in the spiritual gifts for I myself can speak in tongues. But the greatest gift I seek is that of love. Way back I have to admit I thought that was lame and was far more concerned with having all the “cool” gifts. The less of us and more of us satisfies this wanting of “fun” gifts. My speaking in tongues is for me, not for bragging, though I used to brag about it. It can be for proof, my daughter actually got saved from hearing me, because she knew this couldn’t be me, though I cringe when I remember, though her being saved was worth my humiliation. God is so patient with us, He is so awesome. Even though I was seeking these gifts for the wrong reason, He did not chastise me, he in a sense humored me. I eventually found out the truth by Him. He gave me what I needed when I needed it. Anything in the word of God is truth, including gifts of the Holy Spirit. If one wants to seek them so be it. My advice is to seek God and only God, but I didn’t take my own advice until God showed me.

    welcome our friend.

in addition to what Michael said, i think you need to consider other things with regards to being baptised with the holy spirit.
Luke10v13 talks about asking God for the Holy Spirit. remember if u ask, it shall be given but be very careful, James 4v2-3 talks about not recieving what u want/ask for because of bad motives. so ask yourself, Why do i want to be filled with the Holy Spirit? God looks into the depths of your heart and if there are impurities there(pride, unfrgiveness, bitterness, doubt etc),then asking may be futile.the Holy Spirit occupies your heart and thus cannot dwell amongst impurities. finally, patience is also very important.there is no rush,God Himself knows the perfect time for you to recieve that which u deserve…
so work on trying to ask God to help you become the type of person He wants u to be, ask Him to reveal your weaknesses and those things that may be hindering you from recieving the Holy Spirit and work on those.. very soon u will be bubbling in tongues no doubt!!! Stay blessed.

  10. Welcome to the forum. I hope you’ll be able to find some people here to connect with and encourage you in your faith. Don’t give up!

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God in your heart. If just hearing messages preached has not helped yet, add to that meditation on the Word of God – repeating the same words from God again and again to yourself. This can help.

Apart from that, sounds like you need deliverance. I hope you will be able to find a church that practices this ministry – if not, there are ministries online.

It requires discipline and desperation many times to get free from all cords Satan uses to hold one back. Don’t give up. It is a process normally, but God is faithful and He fulfils His promises over time.
