HELP!!! Bible Question. Women in Ministry

I was reading my bible, trying to find a verse when I came across the passage in 1 Timothy 2:8-15

 I want men everywhere
to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.

I also want women to dress
modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or
pearls or expensive clothes, but
with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

 A woman should learn in
quietness and full submission. I
do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she
must be silent. For Adam
was formed first, then Eve. And
Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and
became a sinner. But
women will be saved through childbearing—if they
continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

Does this mean that woman should not teach in churches? I don’t really understand what this verses are saying. If someone can clear it up that would be nice.

What do YOU think?

  1. I would first suggest that. Regarging this topic that you should take it to the Lord in prayer. 2nd. You should contact women in ministry and ask why they are doing the ministry & what they understand this verse to mean. I believe there is neither male nor female in the Lord christ Jesus & that when we are with him we will be likend to the angels (worshiping him and adoring him) I know that when we are married to a man we are under his authority. Yet if he is doing things contrary to god that we must draw closer to God if he is causing physical harm to you or your kids that you should leave. I never would think of myself as less than anybody or more than anybody. Yet we are all given a measure of faith. I think that many people of that time were uneducated & men could just as easily be led away by a woman back then as today many have. There is such a danger of a Jezabel spirit getting in a church that many fear this & have rightly feared it in the past also. Yet not all women have that spirit & not all women are led by the flesh. Just like men. But we are all equally loved by God. It saddens me when I hear of women of god being seen as less because we are female. It is just as unjust as us thinking we are more than men. If god called any woman to minister today & she is not wed than I don’t see an issue & if she is married & her husband ministers I believe that she equally shares his responsibilities. But men and women alike are called to be the Bride of christ & we whom have heard his voice are all given the right to be the sons of God. So the best advice that I can give you is to 1st ask God & then seek Godley advice. Love *YSI Christ Jesus. Annette. *(Your sis In)

The rooster crows but the hen delivers the goods,(an old saying) But teachers either man or woman, can do great things,When a dedicated christian is willing to work for the Kingdom and can teach sound doctrine to the lost, they are priceless wheather it be man or woman.Jesus said, when we will not praise the Lord, the rocks will cry out. teaching is every bit as great as preaching, and women can teach at least as good as men .so I say all who will help save the lost for Jesus, regardless is welcome.the fields are white for harvest but the workers are few.

relating to these topic. i’m in a situation where in i’m sharing bible topics in a small group of men on board (ship). and i saw these verse in 1 Timothy regarding the submission of women to the men. i need a big help right now because i quit sharing with them because it seems that i am becoming a lead to them, instead of them to me… and when i quit it seems that they’re getting lost. i’m so sad with the situation because i just keep quiet. but before i saw them doing things against the law of our God, i warned them… because God told me on Ezekiel 3:17 that He made me a watchman, and i need to warn the wicked ones and the righteous as well if they do strange thing against God. and then i after that when i saw them again doing the things i never speak to them anymore…and the recent days i’m trying hard to change my schedule so that i can gather them again together and we will listen again to the words of God but our supervisor doesn’t allowed me to. i’m still praying to God what to do? i need your opinion.

If and When I meet a decent godly man who lives as a godly man should, I will not wear plaits, wear gold earrings, will not speak in church and will be submissive and trusting. Alas, I doubt if this will ever come to pass. Since Adam first shirked his responsibility in caring for the garden and for his wife, also blaming her for his own shortcomings, it seems every other man I have ever met or seen does the same. Sigh.

If I may. Being submissive does not mean being a doormat. It was said that in days of old. New testament times. That the women sat so far back they couldn’t hear the preaching. So the husband was supposed to relay the preachers message at home. This is why women were quiet in church in those days. Man has been given authority to lead his household as he submits to the authority of Jesus. In doing so the wife is a helper to the husband in sharing wisdom with him and praying together. No man is better than a woman sister. As he submits to Jesus a wife will enjoy submitting to her husband. But that doesn’t mean she is to be pushed around and her opinions not valued.

I gotta laugh. I replied to deborahs post from 2010! Oh well! Maybe someone needed to hear that

Some understand this Scripture to mean that a woman should never teach in church. Personally, the way I understand it is that women are not to take the lead through teaching, or set doctrine in place, or be the overseers of a church. I believe there is place for a woman to teach the Word of God when she is under the authority of her husband and/or the senior overseer of the assembly. So religious movements like the Seventh Day Adventists with Ellen G. White or Christian Scientists with Mary Baker Eddy would be examples of violations of this principle. So would any pentecostal church where the “senior pastor” is a woman.

Priscilla and Aquila were a husband and wife team that taught the way of God more accurately to Apollos, obviously a man. Women can make disciples, but their teaching ministry in a church, if indeed they are called to that, must be a secondary role or I can’t make sense of the quoted passage at all.

Note that the Bible says that “the elder must be the husband of one wife”. It did not say “or the wife of one husband”.

I see that the scripture states that men should be leaders and elders and not women,

I beleive that God made a natural order of things and that He desires man to lead and woman to be lead.

“Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman” Corinthians11:3

In our modern culture this is often veiwed as sexist but i believe that this remark attacks His natural order that is for our blessing.

If men are to lead as mandated from God then they should do so but alas many do not, and there are too many passive men thanks to the enemys influence in society over the years that sought to falsly empower women and emasculate men. Women have been fed the lie that they need to seek equality with men but really the enemy uses this to try to make women forsake their natural God given femeninity to become more manly, wheras this can be done I don’t beleive it is correct.

men should be men and women, women. when men act like women or vica verca there is gonna be problems sooner or later.

In this time it would be seen as wrong and medievil not to allow women to even speak in church. But we all must remember that His word and his instructions are for our blessing and protection and deviations will have repocusions.

I beleive that if a women is fully submitted to her husband if married or to eldership if not, then she should seek to do whatever the authority God has put in her life says in regard to these questions as then at least she is under submission and not acting independantly, but this goes for men too. God will bless her for her submission and she will be in her natural place.

I personally think that women shouldn’t be elders because of the scriptures but i know that they are in churches, even in my church.

I remember when i was to make an important decision and went to see my pastors. they gave me their wisdom and i listened but decided against it. i came to regret this in time as i clearly should of listened. i hadn’t ever prayed or taken seriously thier words which came from love and care. we need to submit to God’s delegated authority in our lives.

We must be careful to honour Him in all these things
