Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?

Teaching on Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Pastor Caspar McCloud-Upper Room 2009

John 14:12 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

I am here to tell you that I firmly believe and understand that God has said what He means, and means what He has said. So let us today resonate with a pragmatic understanding of what God has said in His Holy Bible. We have covered many things over the last few months that we have been meeting like this and this will be very important to work through this morning.

For us to be fully equipped to be able to apply John 14:12 in our lives we are going to need some basic foundational material in doctrinal understanding of the Word of God.

I would venture to say that most of you here today are born again and because of that you are now a regenerated as a work of the Holy Spirit. Because no man can come unto God except the Spirit of God draw him. But, because you are regenerated, and  your spirit has come alive to God, as the work of the Holy Spirit it DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE FULLY  EQUIPPED TO DO THE WORKS OF GOD that we are called to do. If you are here today, and you have not yet accepted the Lords amazing salvation plan for your life please feel free to let us know, because it’s the most important decision you will ever make. If you’re ready to do that we are ready to help usher you in today so you can make your peace with Papa God.

If you are a real believer and follower of Jesus Christ of Nazareth you should be able to lead somebody else into salvation and that is a wonderful thing, however not every born again believer today can do the works of God. If that was the case and every born again believer was doing the works of God according to John 14:12, this world would be in a much better place. It would be like Spokane, Washington when John G. Lake’s ministries emptied out all the hospitals and there was no one left to pray for in the early 1900’s. They were all blessed and healed. Amen?

First, let’s talk about what the works of God are and what they look like. When we study the Bible we see that part of the works of God can be found in just following the steps of Jesus Christ of Nazareth’s four Gospels. We look through Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and it’s just awesome. We see clearly that when Jesus of Nazareth had a church service all He did was preach the Gospel, heal the sick, and cast off unclean spirits. Amen? How is that different from the church today where we have so many other things going on that are not even mentioned in the Bible?

Some of the works of God can be found by studying the twelve disciples and what they did. By the way when did God stop making apostles and prophets as they are listed right there with pastors, teachers, evangelists, and prophets? Where did the apostles and prophets go? Who took that out of the Bible? Who decided to cut and paste the scriptures they liked and disregard the ones they did not and publish a modern translation of it?

Ephesians 4:11 “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.”

Some of the works of God show up by following and studying what happened with the 70 that were sent out two by two, in the early 1st Century church, you know the Lord sent them out two by two and told them not to take an extra credit card and cell phone and all their needs were met. Or, something like that. So Saint Paul the apostle reaches out to the Gentiles. Many of the works of God can be found simply by the reading of the Holy Scriptures.

In 1 Corinthians 12 the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit are presented quite clearly.

1 Corinthians 12:1-10 “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. (We taught about addictions and idols last week.)

3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. (So unless the Holy Spirit has you, you cannot say Jesus is your Lord, it won’t be convincing)

4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

(A word of wisdom ties the present to the future, and a word of knowledge ties the present to the past.)

9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; (I tell you I am sure glad Pastor Henry had a gift of faith to believe the gifts of miracles were still intact or I should not be alive here today sharing the Gospel with you or anyone else).

10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues.

11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.”

As I stated in my book, ‘Nothing is Impossible’, I received a prophecy that I was going to be completely healed of heart disease and receive a miracle a year before I ever even heard about Pastor Henry Wright and PVC. The Lord spoke through a pastor friend of mine at a time in my life when no one would have believed it. However, I believed it and I believe God honored that by bringing it to pass.

God is the only one who decides when, where, and how He is going to be working through me, or you. I will tell you that He has healed some people through me and done creative cures and miracles. But I personally could not heal a butterfly with a broken wing, expect the Lord decides to work through me in that anointed moment.

I tell you the truth, it is impossible for you to do the works of Christ in healing and deliverance unless you are baptized in the Holy Spirit. You can heal no sick people and you will not be able to cast out one devil.

Now if you are a Christian you can resist the devil by knowing the truth and there is a scriptural principle that is involved. There are many Christians who are not baptized in the Holy Spirit who love the Lord. They really love the Lord, they love God, they go to church every week, sometimes twice on Sunday and once on Wednesday, and they are going to heaven. But it’s very interesting to see that those denominations and those groups of people who do not teach about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. They do not practice healing and deliverance as part of the church doctrine and church practices.

Some of you may have taken notice of that. It is those denominations that will send their people to the doctors and psychologist because they have no real answers and they have no power. I suppose that is as simple as I can say it.

So the purpose of this message today is to further equip you, the believer in Christ who is born again by not only teaching you about the truth of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as an experience subsequent to and distinct from salvation, but to lead you into a personal experience of that endowment of power from on high. Because our Lord needs you here right now to help bring in our generation, He does not need you up in Heaven building mansions. Besides, those mansions in Heaven are not built with human hands.

A few years ago I was playing some concert and afterwards the pastor approached me asking if we could meet for lunch, because he said there was something different about me and he couldn’t quite figure it out. Also, he found he could not argue with any Scriptures I shared even though it went against what he learned at the seminary of higher learning he attended.

Now when I minister in other churches, I am not going to overstep my authority, but I will tell you now that I am very reluctant to play and minister anywhere where the Holy Spirit is not invited to have His way and His freedom. When you have a service that is all mapped out there is no room for the Holy Spirit to come do what He may need to do.

I ask people now to watch that TBN documentary and if they are ok with that, I will agree to come and minister there. Some churches are rather uncomfortable with my testimony. Image that pastor and leadership not wanting anyone to know that God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. (Hebrews 13:8)  I have been to churches where they only want me to do music and will not permit me to share how the Lord healed me and brought me back from the dead.

So I met with this pastor of a certain large denomination and over lunch I shared the Scriptures with this man for over two hours about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. I showed him Old Testament anointing and how in the Old Testament God anointed a few people to do His work. But, in the New Testament, God through Jesus Christ intended that every believer be anointed to do the works of God. That’s what

1 Corinthians 12 is all about. That man got baptized in the Holy Ghost right there at that dinner table!

In fact one year I saw a number of pastors receive that after I ministered in concert in their churches, except one who said, “You don’t understand. If I have that happen to me, my deacon board will dismiss me as the pastor of this church.” He told me how he had a doctorate and house payments and all the excuses. He basically heard the truth, but was more interested in pleasing men that our Lord apparently at that time. I have prayed for that man.

Every individual in the Church is supposed to be doing the works of God as a work of the Holy Spirit. When we come together collectively like this all the gifts of the Holy Spirit should be working. That is why a few weeks ago our brother here in faith Dr. Harold and Dr. Mike, and a few others were up here ministering and praying for a sister after the meeting and what happened? She was blind in one eye and now she sees through it again, all praise be to God.

In 1 Corinthians 12 it says "are all workers of miracles" well that is a rhetorical question and the answer is clearly no, "do all speak with tongues" no, "do all have the gifts of healing" no, "do all prophesize" no, but corporately we should have the fullness of God in our midst.

Every local church body should be an extension of the fullness of God through Jesus Christ in the earth as a work of the Holy Spirit. We the people, we are the church not the building.

Corporately we need to be bringing that strength into the world, and we certainly have a long way to go in this. But we need to start somewhere, so let it start here today Lord.  Let the revival begin now, today, right here.

I want to tell you again and please get this, that it is my position and it is the position of the Holy Word that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is an experience subsequent to salvation. In Hebrews 6:1-2 it says Baptisms with an “S” on the end of Baptism. I have found seven listed in my Bible.

There is: John’s Baptism unto repentance, into water, the Holy Spirit, into fire, into the body, into suffering, and into the clouds. I will teach that some other time, because we need to focus on the Holy Spirit Baptism now.

There is nothing more and nothing greater than I can teach apart from salvation than what I am teaching you right now.

Papa God right now I command every spirit of slumber and error to leave these precious brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ of Nazareth’s name. Amen.

This is very important to your life. This is a historic moment for your life today. I thank you for coming here and honoring the Lord in this teaching and hearing the Word of our Lord this day.

esus is speaking in Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Jesus Christ of Nazareth said to them, “You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” The Greek word here is Deutomis and it literal means the ability to reproduce itself in almost like perpetual power in motion, perpetual in power among the earth.

There are people today that are looking for perpetual motion…well this is it. Here is your opportunity get connected and resonate with it. We are going to ask the Holy Spirit to come and fill us to overflowing in a little while. Amen? I’m excited about that possibility of what may happen here today when He does.

You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you. What does the Holy Spirit represent to you but the power of God?

Let us look into the O.T. for a moment and what was the relationship between the O.T. believers of the work and ministry.

Genesis 1:1, in the restoration of this planet who was there?

It says that the Spirit of God was hovering there over the chaos waiting for the spoken Word of God to move and to act and bring light. So when God said, “Let there be light”. Who produced that light?…the Holy Spirit. What if He said, “let there be light”, and nothing happened straightway, so He said again and a voice came back from the deep saying we were waiting for confirmation!

In Judges 11:29 and understand the work of Holy Spirit is to do the works of God. I will submit to you that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit gives you the ability to do the works of God according to John 14:12.

Judges 11:29 (This is an example of the Holy Spirit coming over one man. “Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.”

What came upon Jepthah to empower him? The Spirit of the Lord. To do what? A special thing.

Numbers 11:24-25 “And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the Lord, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle. (This is the 70 elders of Israel) And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.”

No one can deny that Moses was anointed with the Holy Ghost. You just don’t go about parting the Red Sea and having your staff turn into a snake except you were given that special power.

Numbers 11:25 “And gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.” They did what? They prophesied.

What happened to the 70? The same anointing that was on…could we use the word anointed with Baptism of the Holy Spirit…anointed is a resting of the Holy Spirit in or on a person to do something for God. And so the 70 elders received what from God? The very same anointing, the very same Holy Spirit, that was using Moses.

When Pastor Henry cast out a spirit of death in me in Jesus of Nazareth’s name back on July 3, 2001, what was he operating in?  When I in turn, prayed the very next day and a women was healed of lumps in her breast what was I operating in? The same anointing of the Holy Spirit.

You may not recognize that and you may not realize it yet, but it’s scriptural. Where did I get the anointing from?  I got it from my Lord, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Where did he get it from? The Father. So the same anointing that came from the Father to the Lord Jesus is the same anointing that has come to me from who…the Father and the Lord Jesus. And who is the anointing? The Holy Spirit. He is a person. He’s the third member of the Godhead. The anointing is not something that comes from you it is not part of your being. I’ve got to tell you something. If you are anointed it has nothing to do with you. It is the Holy Spirit using you working through you, it is Him, speaking through you and you are just the vessel. Before you get too puffed up and think you are something you’re just created dust. It is the anointing that breaks the yoke and not you. Oh I may show up and the anointing may break the yoke of the devil against your life, but who did it through me?

Jesus of Nazareth said, “If, I by the finger of God cast out devils know ye this that the Kingdom of God has come before men.” Even Jesus did it by how? The Holy Spirit. Jesus healed the sick, cast out devils, and who did it through him? The Holy Spirit did it through him. Jesus himself said so. “If I by the Spirit of God cast out devils know ye this that the Kingdom of God has come unto men.”

Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

Now as we look back at the Old Testament examples for the few not the many.

Exodus 31:1-3 “And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship”.

What is it that the Lord said unto Moses? It is I that have anointed him, I have filled him with the Spirit of God.

In the Old Testament times, the Holy Spirit seemed to come upon certain individuals for service and then withdraw as the need was accomplished and then reappear when the next time was needed.

That can be found in 1 Samuel 10:6-10

6 “And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.

9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.”

In chapter 16:14 “But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.”

In the New Testament, when you are baptized with the Holy Spirit He does not withdraw. He can be grieved but he doesn’t withdraw. Although King David said this in his sin, "take not thy Holy Spirit from me". Now there are many people that wander about when they get cold and lukewarm like David did with Bathsheba, however, when they are hot for God amazing things happen. When the devil gets in and they are not hot for God anymore they feel like maybe God has changed His mind about them in their calling and in their anointing in their election, and in their selection.

I’ll tell you what the Scriptures say…that God gives the gifts without repentance. What does that mean he gives the gifts without repentance? When God the Holy Spirit anoints you to be something, he figures that’s what you should be forever. He didn’t change his mind you changed your’s. So listen to me! It’s time to get back in line with what He thinks, putting on the mindset of Christ.

Take a good lesson from the Apostle Peter. Peter denied the Lord, cursed, denied the Lord again. The Lord finally caught up with him on the other side of the resurrection. He found him out there fishing one day. Jesus said, "Peter do you love me?" “Yea, you know I love you.” “No, do you love me Peter?” “You know I love you Lord.” Then the third time, “Peter do you love me?” Peter got really upset now and said, “Lord you know all things. You know that I love you” Peter had a little problem with a temper it appears. Maybe there is hope here for the rest of us!

"You know I love you why do you keep asking this over and over again My Lord? Then Jesus says to Peter the very incredible statement of "Feed my sheep."

When the Lord called Peter to be an apostle what did he call him to be? An Apostle, whether he liked it or not. When Satan finished sifting him like wheat, Jesus said to Peter, "Satan desires to sift you like wheat but when you have fully recovered yourself you will do what…. strengthen the brethern. When the Lord called me into the five fold ministry, He told me I was a member whether I liked it or not.

I want to encourage many of you that are here and those who listen to this message on line if Satan has been sifting you like wheat, and even if you have denied the Lord three times. When the Lord comes to you again and you finally wake up and answer His call. You know what he is going to say to you…”Feed my sheep, strengthen the brethren, get on with it mate.”

The calling and the election of God is without repentance, now get it straight.  If in your life you’ve been doing things you should not have been doing and you’ve wandered though those dark places at times, looking for love in all the wrong places, your prayers are just hitting the ceiling and falling back down. Well God is not the one who wandered off now is He? You walk into those areas where God  seems to be a far distance away… He hasn’t changed His mind. Get back in the saddle little buckaroo, pick up the reins and ride that spiritual horse where you are called to ride. Amen?

Now, how is the ministry of the Holy Spirit seen in the life of the Lord Jesus, the head of the Church? It’s important first of all if we are going to study the aspect of be baptized in the Holy Spirit. We must begin to follow a pattern. This is not something new that is going to happen this morning.

It has happened for almost 2,000 years. It happened first with whom? Jesus. Was Jesus baptized in water? Yes, so what do you need to be? Baptized in water. Did Jesus go down in the water all the way and get wet all over the place and then come out all wet? Yes, he did. When you study about the baptism of Jesus he wasn’t sprinkled he was totally immersed in the river of Jordan.

If that is good enough for Him it is good enough for whom? If you have not been baptized like that please let us know. We will arrange it for you soon. It’s very important to do and it’s in obedience to the Lord.

If Jesus was baptized in the Holy Spirit, and he was, what do you think you need to be? Now I don’t know what denominations have taken it out of the Bible but they are in serious trouble with Papa God. I wouldn’t want to have to stand before the Lord one day and look him straight in the eye and tell Him that I didn’t have to do what you did. The standard is the Lord. Are you greater than your master? Not even. It’s important for us to see how the Holy Spirit moved in the life of Christ. For Christ is the pattern of that from which is to flow into the church, which is the body.

This is talking about Christ. Ephesians 1:20-23 “ Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23 Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.”And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church’. What are you? The body of Christ.

Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.’ What are you to be? The fullness of the Lord Jesus in the earth not you individually but us corporately. Jesus is the standard because Jesus is the head of the Church. Any church that doesn’t have Jesus as the head is not a church of Jesus Christ.  Jesus is the head of the Church and that’s what it says. Now let’s look at the comparison between Christ and the Church.

Let’s look in Luke 1:35 “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”

Do you think Christ was born of the Spirit? When you study the virgin birth Jesus was conceived how? By the Holy Spirit. Not of the will of men, but of the will of God.

Now how about you?  John 3:5 “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except one be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”

Well if Jesus was born and conceived by the Holy Spirit in the new birth what are you conceived by? The Holy Spirit. Jesus was born of the Spirit as a man. In the new birth what are you born with? The Holy Spirit.

Let’s take a comparison of Jesus being filled with the Spirit. John 3:34 “For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for he giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.”

What is this saying? This is saying that Jesus received the Holy Spirit without measure. What does that mean? The total fullness of the Holy Spirit rested in the person of Jesus Christ.  He was filled with the Spirit without measure. Go to Ephesians 3:19 and you will find yourself there. I want you to understand where I am coming from. What’s good for Jesus is good for you. Amen?

Ephesians 3:19 “And to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye may be filled unto all the fulness of God.” So the church might be filled with all the fullness of God. If Jesus is filled with the Spirit what do you need to be? Filled with all of the fullness of God.

Well how about being baptized with the Spirit? Go to Matthew 3:16-17And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

What did Jesus receive? The Holy Spirit. How about you? Go to

Acts 1:5 “For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

So Jesus was baptized with the Holy Spirit and who else is to be baptized? You are.

How about being led by the spirit? Go to Mathew 4:1 and let’s look at the comparisons and parallels. Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.” Jesus was led by the Spirit. Who else is to be led by the spirit? We’ll look at Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

If Jesus was led by the Spirit, what are you to be? Led by the Spirit of God.

How about being sealed by the Spirit of God? Look at John 6:27 “Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.”

Jesus was sealed by the Holy Spirit. You know what that seal represents? It represents ownership and anointing. It represents son ship and daughter ship. It represents being part of the family of God. My spirit bears witness with your spirit that you are the sons and daughters of the living God. That’s the evidence of the sealing of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.”

Who else is sealed besides Jesus by the Holy Ghost? You are! You’re sealed! Jesus was sealed by the spirit and you are sealed by the spirit.

How about being empowered by the Spirit? Go to Luke 4:14 and look at Jesus. Luke 4:14 “And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee : and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.”

How did Jesus return? In the power of the Spirit. Can I give you another? Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

Do you think that’s empowerment? Do you think that’s power? Do you think that’s being empowered by the Spirit? That was the anointing of the Holy Spirit that was on Jesus. How about you? Go back to Acts 1:8 this is you.  “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” Who else needs to be empowered? You do!

How about being anointed by the Spirit? Jesus was anointed by the Spirit. Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

Could I quote this to you a different way? And then I want to read you a scripture. Know ye this how God anointed you (say me) with the Holy Ghost and I’m going about doing good, and healing all who are oppressed of the devil.

You have been called. I will prove it to you today that is important for you to be baptized in the Holy Ghost. If it was required of the Lord it shall and is required of you.

1 John 2:27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”

Now you may say, “What is this anointing that is going to teach me all things?” Jesus said, “that it is important that I go away, so I can send the comforter, and when he the spirit of God comes…”

The anointing is directly related to truth. The Bible shows the comparison of Christ and you the church in being born of the spirit, being filled with the spirit, being baptized in the spirit, being led of the spirit, being sealed by the spirit, being empowered by the spirit, and being anointed by the spirit.

Is the baptism of the Holy Spirit a Scriptural term? There are churches that teach against this. John 1:32-34 “And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.”

Jesus baptizes you with the Holy Ghost.

Acts 1:5 “For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

Acts 11:16-18 “Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.”

Would you say the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the Baptism of the Holy Ghost a scriptural principle? Jesus was baptized with the Holy Ghost after his baptism with water in the Jordan. (Matthew 3:16-17, John 1:19-34)

When Jesus was baptized, the spirit came and remained. When you are baptized in the spirit, He will come and remain, not like the Baptism of the Old Testament. We’ve likened the Baptism of the Holy Spirit to when you were born again. You dipped your toe in eternal life and you may have been plunged in the waters of baptism but you came out of it didn’t you? The spirit is to come and remain. Christ and relationship with baptism of the Holy Spirit. He shall baptize with Holy Ghost.

John 4:21 “When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,

(Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

Did Jesus baptize in water? No, his disciples did. Then if Jesus didn’t, he baptized with the Holy Ghost. Jesus and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit go hand in hand. Jesus prophesized that this would be a believer’s experience, given on the experience of Jesus’ exaltation and glorification.

John 7:38-39, you need this, because it represents the total defeat of the devil and the glorification of the living God over it.

(1 John 3:8, Acts 10:8) You need it to identify and be part of the victory of Christ over evil. You need to be filled because it represents Christ victory over evil over yours.

You can’t buy this, Simon the sorcerer learned this. It is a free gift.

John 7:38-39 “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Where did I say your spirit man is? In your belly. You think about it in your head, but you feel it in your belly. There are medical explanations for that but we will talk about that another time.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit represents the fullness of God glorified through man through you. Jesus is your Creator and Lord, your friend, your spiritual husband forever; He is the word of God.

Jesus received this pre-vision for the church from the father when he ascended into heaven.

Acts 2:33 “Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the Promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.”

Jesus received from God when He was glorified the promise of the Holy Spirit for mankind. And this is what you see and hear.

What is the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

Acts 1:4-5 “And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the promise of the Father.

Acts 2:33 “Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the Promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.”

v.38-39 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

The Holy Ghost is a gift. It is the promise of the FATHER.

Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power.” It is also power, to do what? To be a witness. Luke 24:49 “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”

It is also being endowed with power from on high.

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given you a spirit of fear but power….”  The antidote to the Spirit of fear is the Holy Spirit. It is power over evil.

Acts 19:2 “He said unto them, “Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?’ And they said unto him, “We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.” There are people that teach when you are born again you receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Paul found certain disciples…do you think they were born again…you can’t be a disciple and not be born again…and he asked them have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? Well if you get the fullness of the Holy Spirit when you believe then why did Paul ask them that question?

Well this proves conclusively that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is subsequent to salvation. You are born again by the spirit of God but the power of God comes in the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is an experience that we may not have received to this date even after conversion.

Acts 8:12, 14-16 “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.”

Where they born again? Yes or no? YES! Had they been water baptized? Had they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit? NO! And so here we see the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is an operation from God separate from conversion. I want you to really get understanding of this, this morning.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Acts 2:38-39 “Then Peter said unto them, repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is something that is to be experienced by every Christian. You know how many Christians are not? Many. There are many denominations that teach against it or will not allow it and they grieve the Lord in this. That is apostasy.

Evidences of Receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

There are those who when they receive they act like they are drunk. They’re happy they praised and glorified God. They spoke in the language of men. You see in the day of Pentecost those Jews who got filled with the Holy Ghost didn’t speak in a heavenly language they spoke in the language of men. But it was a language of men that they didn’t know personally. And the confirmation was in Jerusalem which was a place of commerce and had people from all over the world. They were standing in public and they heard Jews speaking their language. Outsiders understood what they said. There are other languages whether they are of tongues of men and angels I know not. There are languages only God knows. And many people stumble over the speaking in Tongues. Other times they prophesied.

Evidences

Speaking in tongues. When I received Christ it was by faith. When I opened my heart to God and confessed my sins and I asked the Lord Jesus into my heart as a work of the Holy Spirit that was by faith. Nothing physical. You receive healing by faith. Which is easier to say thy sins be forgiven or take up thy bed and walk.

It’s amazing today that we have made it easier to be forgiven and very difficult to be healed. But the scriptures say which is easier to say thy sins be forgiven or take up thy bed and walk. There should be no difference. We are staring at disease and it creates unbelief and doubt because it is a physical reality. I want to say to you when we administer…it is by faith that I believe that all who ask in faith will receive. I’m not interested if you speak in tongues. There are people who say when you speak in tongues then you have the Holy Spirit. I’m not in agreement, it’s a stumbling block. I’ll say this when you are filled with the Holy Ghost you will develop a prayer language and you should be taught and instructed to do so.

The Bible says that when your spirit prayeth your understanding is unfruitful. So I will pray in the spirit and I will pray in my understanding. I will sing in the spirit and I will sing in my understanding. I want to encourage everyone in that prayer language. Sometimes when you pray you just don’t know what to say. The Bible says in that time the spirit can pray for you through groanings and utterings that cannot be understood. Because he knoweth the mind of God and HE will pray a perfect prayer for you. Isn’t that amazing!

It’s very scriptural to let the Holy Spirit birth things through you. I’m the vessel of intercession. When you have a prayer language it says when you pray in an unknown language pray that you may have the interpretation.

We will be teaching on tongues, the gift of tongues, and the interpretation of tongues in the near future.

1 Corinthians 12 speaks of tongues and interpretation of tongues. That is not the same thing as your prayer language. That’s a gift. People that pray in tongues do not necessarily have the gift of tongues and interpretation. That’s something different. I’m going to emphasize the baptism of the Holy Spirit. If you have tongues, pray that you may interpret. I encourage people in small prayer sessions to get into that place where you learn how to work your prayer language. Get around someone privately that has that prayer language, filled with the Holy Spirit, and get before God and get before time and let that develop in your life. Ok?

Acts 2:1-4 “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

Now in this particular case the gift of tongues was not in an unknown language. It was in the language of men. If you look down there were Cretes and assorted people from all over that heard these men speak in unknown languages. Let’s get this straight once and for all. When they were filled with the Holy Ghost the day of Pentecost they spoke in the language of men. Is that what it says? There are many people that teach when you are baptized in the Holy Spirit you speak in a language that no one knows. It wouldn’t surprise me to hear someone speaking in Japanese today who never learned it as a language. Wouldn’t that be an astounding thing? They spoke in other known languages of men. Wouldn’t it be amazing to be able to speak in Chinese and not know the first thing about it? Do you think the Holy Spirit is able to speak in all the languages of men? What is the purpose? To prove God’s sovereignty supremacy over your intellectual abilities. It would show the power of God wouldn’t it?

Acts 8:17-19 “Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.”

There are two ways the Holy Ghost can come this morning.

He can fall on you, or we can lay hands on you to receive. Acts 2:4 he fell on him. In Jesus it fell on him like a dove. You can’t administer the Holy Ghost to someone if you don’t already have it. You can’t administer something you don’t have.

What did Simon see? He saw evidence of someone receiving the Holy Ghost. There should be an evidence when the Holy Spirit comes into you. The Holy Spirit is God. Amen?

Acts 10:44 “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.”

The Holy Spirit fell on them while he was preaching.

Acts 10:45-47 “And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?”

Well here’s a case where they haven’t even been water baptized yet. They received the Holy Ghost. V.48 “And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.”

Well what happened? They got filled with the Holy Ghost and then they got water baptized. The pre-requisite for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is that you are born again. You must be born again! But once you’re born again you can be water baptized and then baptized in the Holy Spirit, or Acts 19 you receive the Holy Spirit Baptism and then water.

What did they hear them do? Speak in other tongues and prophesy.

Acts 19:1-6 1. And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said Unto John's baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.”

They were born again but they have not received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 19:2 “Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?” You can do none of the works of God until you have. You don’t have the power. When you prophesy it can be in your own language, tongues of angels, or tongues of men. How many have never heard someone speak in tongues? Interpret? Prophesy? We had that here last week.

You’ve got to be careful you don’t play church. You got to be careful that you just don’t come in here and become religious. You got to be hot brothers and sisters for God.  So He does not spew you out of His mouth.

What’s greater than having a relationship with a living God by faith? It is more than you could ever hope for in this planet. Nothing is more important than a relationship with God. Vs.6 The Bible does not say that you must speak in tongues in order to have the Baptism of the Holy Spirit but it does teach us that when you get it tongues is one of the evidences. Don’t be afraid of it and don’t quench it.

Well who can receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit? Acts 2:38-39 says to you and your children. Sometimes it is conditional to you knowing the experience is available to you. If you didn’t know that, why would you have it? If you did not know someone put a million dollars in a Swiss bank account just for you, how will you ever benefit and be able to spend it?

The prerequisites to receive, is repentance, faith, be born again, and get this, asking for it. You must ask for it. You have to ask the Father in the name of the Lord Jesus to be filled with the Holy Spirit. When you got saved what did you have to do? You had to ask to be forgiven of your sins. When you received healing what did you have to do? You had to ask for it. Delivered from an evil spirit? To receive you must ask. You have not because you ask not.

Why doesn’t God just dump it all on me? That’s not relationship that’s meaningful. God doesn’t want you to take him for granted. He wants you to be in motion with him in relationship. You must believe in order to receive, you must believe it is scriptural, and you must believe that you receive when you believe.

Now when you ask you have to believe when you receive. He comes into your spirit man and totally immerses you and fills you. You exercise it by faith. Once you receive, desire to cultivate a prayer language. He can give you the gift of tongues and interpretation. You cannot have the gift of tongues and interpretation until after you have established a prayer language first. It’s not possible. We are going to have the nine gifts operational so you might as well be taught right.

Jude 1:20 “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.”

You do it in your prayer language. Your spirit prays to God but your understanding is unfruitful. Many people say you need to speak in tongues. No, I do not say you need to speak in tongues. I say you need to be filled with the Holy Ghost. Do you understand me? You need to be baptized in the Holy Ghost.

Mark 16:16-17 “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;”

1 Corinthians 14:4 “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

So when you speak in an unknown tongue what are you doing? You are edifying yourself. That’s what Jude meant in vs. 20. You don’t speak in tongues so somebody else can hear you. That’s tongues and interpretation part of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. You privately have a prayer language to build yourself up in your relationship to God, because ladies and gentlemen I know you don’t know how to always  pray to God like you ought. Your mind just gets in the way at times. Like I can believe God is really going to do that, well then He won’t. You just canceled it by doubt and spirit of unbelief.

When you pray in the spirit, the devil doesn’t understand a single word you are saying because your spirit is praying unto God mysteries. You want to bypass the devil, talk to God in an unknown language and that devil just gets frustrated. He doesn’t have the first idea what you are saying. I’m edifying myself, building myself up in the Holy Ghost so I can destroy your works. 1 Corinthians 14:4.

Acts 10:45 “And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter;”

So, what’s speaking in tongues? Magnifying God. At the Day of Pentecost they were speaking in the languages of men. What were they doing? They were magnifying God. Telling God how special he is. Praise unto God and magnifying the Lord. What else? You know what is amazing to me is how many people preach against speaking in tongues and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. How much scripture I’m reading to you that establishes its validity. In fact there is a verse in Corinthians that says forbid not the speaking of tongues. Did you know that? I am not here trying to establish a new doctrine, God forbid, but let us return to the Holy Word of God, not of men today.

Ephesians 6:18 “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”

Isaiah 28:11-12 ”For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.”

So what do you do when you pray in the Holy Spirit and you are speaking in tongues? You are building yourself up in your most holy faith. You are edifying yourself. This is the refreshing. Did you know that tongues are in the Old Testament? There are the prophecies. You know why God put unknown tongues in the New Testament period? I want tell you a very sad story. The prophets would come and prophesy to God’s people the Jews and they would make fun of them. And you know what the Jews would say, "Ah…don’t listen to that old prophet man, he is drunk. He acts like a drunken man. You know what God says, He says "since you won’t listen to my men in your language which is Hebrew, and you say they are drunken. I will speak to you like a drunken man will you hear then.

Tongues are for the refreshing, and tongues are for the exercising of your faith. Also, it is God’s contempt for humanity and its vanity. And you know tongues is a stumbling block for many people today, isn’t it? You know why, because of the vanity of intellect and spiritual pride.

So what God ordained He has his contempt for man and his vanity but He has set in place a perfect prayer. Your spirit praying unto God without the hindrance of vain intellectual humanity and the vain interference of doctrines of man. It’s a private place of communion with the Holy God and you cannot enter into that dimension until you have the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Amen?

1 Corinthians 14:12-18 “Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?

17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:

Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.”

What is Paul saying? He is basically saying that tongues without interpretation is ridiculous. But he is also saying that in your private life tongues and that prayer language is a direct access between your spirit and the living God who energizes it and tills it. Building yourself up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Ghost. Amen? God wants every believer to be born of the spirit, but he also wants every believer to be baptized in the Spirit as well. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary for every Christian. In the service that Christ demands and expects of us. Jesus and the apostles all waited to enter into their ministry and did not enter into their ministry until they were endowed with power from on high. You look at the Scriptures, Jesus and His disciples never started their ministry until they were baptized with the Holy Spirit. Many pastors need to repent to God because they are ministering in their own strength and they are wondering why we are having problems. Amen?

Lets pray. We’ve finished the teaching.

Papa God faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Papa God I have taught from your scriptures, I have taught by the word from example, that they may hear and that they may open their hearts unto you.

What we are going to do we are going to come before you our Lord. I believe that every person who asks for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit will receive it. Amen.

If you doubt that you won’t receive, then you won’t.

I don’t doubt it how about you? It is by faith we receive. Every believer be filled young and old…those who feel like they got off to the side, I’ll ask that God re-energize you and fill you…it’s not going to be me, it’s us…Jesus is the baptizer.

Here is what I want to do. I want to lead us before the Lord in a time of repentance. I’m sure everyone is born again. But I don’t want to take any chances with any blocks. If you are ready for this please repeat after me, if not please take your liberty and wait for another time. No one here will think anything less of you.

Papa God I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

I have heard the word, I know we must repent, we must believe, I need you God, I need you Father, I need you Lord Jesus, and I need you Holy Spirit. I set my heart before you God, and any area of my life that is unpleasing to you and any area that has not been sanctified, any area that’s not been renewed. I ask that you would baptize me in the Holy Spirit tonight in my un-renewed state, because by faith I know the Holy Spirit is going to help me overcome the devil. I know he is going to lead me into all truth and I need him. I don’t just need to be born again, I need to be filled with him. I need to be filled with you Holy Spirit.

Because you are the one that is in the earth, you’re the power of God, you are the one that’s sealed me to the day of redemption, you’re my comforter. You are the one that leads me into all truth, and any unholy Spirit, every spirit of divination, every spirit of occultism, every spirit would be against the Holy Spirit, I renounce you, with everything within me. I renounce what you stand for in the earth. Satan I renounce you. I renounce every spirit of antichrist, I renounce every spirit of unbelief and doubt. I renounce every spirit that walks the highways of the corners of my heart. And I submit to the living God by faith today.

Papa God forgive me of my sins, forgive me of my trespasses.

Forgive me of my weaknesses; forgive me for the works of the flesh that are un-dealt with today.  I need the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit I need you. I need to be in you, and you need to be in me in the fullness of your power. Papa God I come to you in the name of Jesus and I submit to you and I give my heart to you. I ask you to come be a part of my live forever. I need you God. If there be any wicked or evil thing in me take it from me in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Amen.

Just raise your hands to the Lord and worship Him and I or someone who is Baptized in the Holy Spirit will come and lay hands on you, or the Holy Spirit will just fall on you so just start worshipping the Lord as you receive.

In the name of the Lord Jesus receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Receive the person of the Holy Spirit. Receive the Holy Ghost. Out of your belly shall come rivers of living water. Let the joy of the Holy Spirit come into you.

If you want to prophesy do it, speak in tongues.

Papa God I ask that you come hear us now. You said that you are the one who baptizes. Jesus you are the one who baptizes because you came to bring us the Father. Holy Spirit may I ask that You be release to those here now to do whatever you need to do and baptize every person with the fullness of your person. Hold nothing back Lord.

As we come to a place and time of receiving the Holy Spirit I release you to do your good work. Satan I bind your powers and any of your principalities that would be in here. This is none of your business. So get out of here now. This is holy ground and we submit ourselves to the Lord God.

Papa God we receive regeneration through conversion. Many of us have entered into the waters of baptism signifying the death to the old man. And those who are here standing want the fullness of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. To do and to serve you Papa God in the earth that we too can be anointed with power and the Holy Ghost and we can go about doing good and healing all that are oppressed of the devil. That we too, may be raised up for the purpose that we may destroy the works of the devil.

Every believer that is filled with the Holy Ghost can administer the

Baptism of the Holy Spirit, lead someone to the Lord, water baptize. This is your inheritance.

I will pray in tongues, and I will give you the interpretation. I want to say this about the area of tongues. It is by faith. You don’t think it, you don’t make it up, you release it. Sometime people learn like a baby who learns to talk. You can start and stop it. Let it go. You want to have a prayer language. Let it go. You can pray in the spirit, you can sing in the spirit.

I shall pray in the spirit I shall pray in my spirit. When you pray in a tongue pray that you get the interpretation. It is the Holy Spirit singing through you. The spirit of God shall birth through you great mysteries. Have the faith to believe. When you pray in the spirit pray that your understanding will be fruitful. If you read about this stuff in the Bible you should be hearing this in every church in the world. The things you read about in Acts should be happening today. Why read about it and say that it isn’t for today.

Let your faith rise. Let the Holy Spirit do His thing. Here is what you do. Next time someone comes around you and says will you pray for me I’m sick. Say amen glory to God. In the name of Jesus I break the power of the devil over you in the name of Jesus. I’m filled with the Holy Ghost and I command you that you take your hands off of her and her flesh in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth Holy Spirit I speak healing and deliverance over you.

You just go ahead and start ministering. If someone gets healed, you know what, it was the Holy Ghost that did it and you have to be filled with the Holy Ghost in order for that to happen. So if the devil says I don’t think you are filled with the Holy Ghost. Just go and look for a bunch of sick people. There’s plenty around and say can I minister to you. Holy Spirit I just want them to be well will you work through me. That boldness comes from the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the power that comes from God. If you believe then I believe you receive. Thank Papa God and the Lord Jesus for sending the Comforter. Thank Jesus for sending the Holy Ghost.
