I’ve noticed that people are accepting gossip as a normal form of conversation. Wherever you go anymore it seems that everyone has an opinion or some form of information about another. It doesn’t even matter if the information is true or not. It has been so accepted in society that most people do not even realize what they are doing is actually considered gossip. Wondering what gossip is defined as I looked it up at dictionary.com. Above is the definition in the Collins English Dictionary.
It is written that gossip is “a conversation involving malicious chatter or rumors about other people.” I wonder how mankind can find this acceptable in society? Has mankind failed to realize that the words spoken hold the power of life and death?
Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (KJV)
Pro 18:21 The tongue can speak words that bring life or death. Those who love to talk must be ready to accept what it brings. (ERV)
When you gossip you are bringing death. You are actually reaching out and calling negative things upon yourself and others. How can this actually be acceptable in society? Do you think it’s acceptable to the heavenly father of Jesus?
Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. (KJV)
Eph 4:29 When you talk, don’t say anything bad. But say the good things that people need–whatever will help them grow stronger. Then what you say will be a blessing to those who hear you. (ERV)
Reading the bible there are several places that tell us what is acceptable by our heavenly father God. Eph 4:29 is just one example that shows mankind what is acceptable to say. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of you mouth. When spreading rumors that are hurtful and harmful to others that is corrupt communication. Many people I believe see this as acceptable. However, it is written in the bible to not let any corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth. If acceptable in society should we just over look gossip? Absolutely not. I challenge myself and all who that read this to stand up for the truth of God. To not accept gossip and listen to it. To not spread rumors either. As followers of Jesus Christ we should stand up for what acceptable to God not mankind, just saying.
