What do we actually mean by the term practicing the Lordship of Christ? It involves: (1) Authority,
(2) Ownership, (3) Devotion, (4) Dependence, (5) Priorities, (6) Yielding.

1. Authority

It is respecting and recognising the authority of one who controls us. We read in Luke 6:46, “And why do you call me, Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say.” “A son honours his father and a servant his master. Then if I am a father, where is My honour? Where is My respect? Says the Lord of hosts…” (Mal. 1:6).

Today the Lord is asking you and me this question. Do we allow our minds, wills, motives and emotions to be subject to the authority and control of our Lord Jesus Christ?

2. Ownership

It is acknowledging his right of ownership.

We read in 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20: “…you are not your own for you have been bought with a price…”

1 Peter 1:18, 19: “…you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold…but with precious blood…the blood of Christ. Have you recognised your owner and given charge of your life to Him?

3. Devotion

It is confessing His Lordship and worshipping Him.

Philippians 2:9-11 says, “…God highly exalted him…that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord…”

It is not only confessing with our tongues that he is Lord but it is daily living a devoted and dedicated life which reflects our worship of the Lord in a concrete form.

4. Dependence

It is accepting our nothingness and unworthiness and agreeing with Jesus that apart from him we can do nothing (John 15:5). It is a life of faith and total surrender to the divine wisdom and will of God. Christ should be all in all in every single detail of our life.

5. Priorities

His lordship requires that we set right our priorities in:

i) Our Daily Necessities: We can call it stewardship.

We read in Matthew 6:33: “…seek ye first the kingdom of God…” Even in our daily necessities let us seek to know the mind of Christ and be willing to accept what he knows is best for us.

ii) Our Daily Activities: We can call it Discipleship.

We read in Luke 9:23 about denying ourselves and taking up our cross daily. Every move we make and every step we take should be in tune with the plan and purpose of our Master. We should be ready to sacrifice anything and everything for our Lord.

iii) Our Daily Role: We can call it Leadership.

We should be leaders who are subject to Christ's authority, spirituall
