The pentecostal movement had its origins in believers who were intensely desiring more of God in the late 19th century. People were getting interested in world evangelization and realized that they needed the original power of the Holy Spirit to do this. They sought God and prayed. Many Methodists and Salvation Army people were among those who were most hungry for God, and embraced the move of the Holy Spirit.
People had been thinking that God no longer spoke except through the Bible, and that speaking in tongues had ceased, but the early pentecostal pioneers challenged that. No doubt Satan tried to mess with the pentecostal movement as he does with all churches, but the testimony of the Spirit of God became too much for staunch conservatives and now the pentecostal/charismatic movement is established as mainstream evangelical Christianity in all places where the church is growing.
Vinson Synan on the origins of the pentecostal movement
If you can get hold of the book "Pioneers of Faith" by Lester Sumrall you can get an account from a man who personally met many of the early pentecostal leaders.
I would also recommend books by Gordon Lindsay on the life of Dr John G. Lake, and various books on the life of Smith Wigglesworth.

Carpentry in Job Corps
I'm intrerested in studying carpentry at this Job Corps. Please pray that God will confirm it, if it's the right trade. Also, please pray that I will perform very well at the day and week visits to that trade. Please pray that I'll have a lot of favor, and that the supervisor or will really like me, and that I'll get into the trade quickly. (There's a waitlist, but if a person does well, they put him in faster). Please pray that in the trade, I'll have a lot of opportunities for WBL (Work-based learning), where I work for companies outside the center. Pray that those employers will like my work, and that I'll form close connections with them before I leave Job Corps.
Healing
I've written up a confidential prayer request entitled, "Please Answer." Please pray that God will answer everything I've written in that prayer request, and heal and restore me.
I’m going to Job Corps
I’m going to Job Corps next Tuesday. Please pray for guidance and in sending out prayer requests covering every area of my time in Job Corps. Pray for the energy, wisdom, efficiency, motivation and guidance to spend whole days sending out prayer requests for it. Pray that God will show me clearly what to ask for and how to word the requests. Also, pray for wisdom and creativity in doing Google searches for prayer requests, and pray that God will lead me to the right prayer chains. Pray that I’ll find a lot of new prayer chains that will pray fervently and powerfully over Job Corps and my future. Pray that God will lead a lot of powerful prayer warriors to my prayer requests, and that they will pray through every detail of my prayer requests, no matter how unusual, and that they’ll pray for me far beyond what’s expected. Pray that everything they pray will be positive, and that God will give them guidance, insight and creativity, so they’ll pray for related things that I didn’t mention.
Go ye therefore, and teach
Go ye therefore, and ateach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the eend of the world. Amen." - Matthew 28:19, 20 Here are six reasons why we should always be willing to share our faith and testimony with those we come in contact with: 1. As disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ we are commanded to be witnesses to the uttermost parts of the earth. In Acts 1:8 we read, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." And "the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely" (Revelation 22:17). 2. Sharing our faith with others demonstrates our love for the Savior. Christ taught us that if we love Him we would keep His commandments. (See John 14:15) 3. Without Christ people are lost. Therefore, for those of us who have accepted the Savior and know of His love, grace, and mercy, it becomes our duty to share the Gospel which is the "Good News" with family, friends, loved ones, and associates who have lost their way.
PENTECOSTAL PIONEERS REMEMBERED
The New Book release "Pentecostal Pioneers Remembered" and its accompanying website www.pentecostalpioneers.org covers the moulding influences which made the Pentecostal Movement what it was across the world. Also it details the lives of those from Britain and Ireland who carried Pentecost to many nations.
