It writes: “Somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and started being used to drive us apart. It got hijacked,” the Democratic presidential candidate said in remarks prepared for delivery before the national meeting of the United Church of Christ.
I'd like to know which faith Obama Barack is referring to when he talks about it as something "being used" to bring us together. These words are quite revealing. I would say that for most politicians, including Senator Obama, faith IS something to "be used" - it is to be used to "bring us together" - hopefully to vote for his party. It would seem that both sides of the political show are not averse to "using faith" to get votes. The big business interests behind the Republican party have certainly "used" the faith of "conservative" Christians to get votes behind their programme of tax cuts for the rich and global domination through agressive pre-emptive international wars. But Obama is worried that "Christians" might not vote for him because he is all for abortion on demand, homosexual "marriages" and other social innovations that seem to be totally at odds with any kind of biblical Christian ethics.
Does faith in Christ bring us all together? Not according to Jesus. "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on the earth, but a sword". Jesus is not talking about starting religious wars, as the context reveals, but rather the internal disagreements that will inevitably arise as some members of a family or society side with Him and others reject Him.
