Having a big ministry is no guarantee of God's approval

"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?" (Jesus, Mark 8:36)

There is an unspoken belief in the pentecostal church today that if you have a big ministry, with lots of people looking to you for leadership, then God has blessed you, God is with you, and God is approving.

It is true that God's blessing results in multiplication and growth ultimately. Thank God for all the true ministries that have grown with God's blessing. But not all that grows is of God.

Cancer grows. But cancer is not of God. Instead, it sucks the needed resources from the rest of the body, and releases poisons and grows at the expense of what is needful.

If the message, the methods and the character of a ministry becomes corrupted, the DNA of that ministry also becomes not unlike a cancer cell in the body. It may grow aggressively, but it does not mean that God is pleased.

We need to test the spirits. We need to check things out according to the Word.

The Pope has a very big ministry, but he preaches a different gospel, one of sacraments and religious works in order to know salvation through Christ. I wonder if the fact that the Pope is so influential is one reason why many modern "evangelicals" and pentecostals are so friendly and applauding towards the whole Roman Catholic thing today.

Jimmy Swaggart, just before he was caught with prostitutes, boasted that his audience was bigger than that of the pope. Was God pleased with what he was doing?

Other ministries today may be huge, and too clever to get involved in or even to desire blatant physical immorality, but they compromise the gospel in various ways, seeking to please men and give them what they want to hear. This was predicted in the Word of God a long time ago.

Yes its one reason why I dropped google ads

michael's picture

Can you still see any google ads on the site? They should all be gone now. I removed them several days ago after it seemed to me that God wanted me to remove them. It would be hard work to control and filter out all the ads that could offend God and which I don't like, so I am concentrating my efforts on things that produce an income.

If I don't earn money from this site, so be it. The gospel is something we give ourselves for because we belong to Christ, and most people who engage in it don't actually derive an income from their involvement in it. As for me, I spend most of my energy these days on business things because I believe the Lord is happy for me to do this, especially in view of the realities of getting finance for God's work. God finds ways to reward us when we please Him.

ps

the ads appear at the bottom of the comments in text format- such as on this page for example. fyi

Wow- that's cool

Well, it was just in my heart today to write that, so it is cool that it happened at almost the same time that you already took the ads off.

I have a heart for people who are spending so much time and effort spreading the gospel and we really need it online- in light of all the evil sites out there. It's almost like we have to be super careful not to get ourselves into the system because it is rotten from the inside.

I did see the ads today, but I am glad that they're not going to be on here. I will stand in prayer with you for your success in God's perfect will.

Blessings- Tatyana

Google

Hi - I know that you have to be able to run this site somehow, and I really enjoy it, especially your Christ-centered faith that seems to be so refreshing in this day of prosperity gospel, faith in religion rather than Christ and the Word of God, etc.

I really dislike Google Ads though. For example, there was one called "Dropkick Jesus". I didn't click on it, but it doesn't sound Biblical :) - I know that Google does as good of a job as they can to customize their ads, but those ads may or may not lead people to a truly Christian site. And if the site is an "anti-Christ" site, is it not better for them to just stay here and read the many links that you provide through your dedication and reliance on the Holy Spirit's guidance?

Just a thought Michael- Tatyana
