Fasting and Prayer - Key to Power
Fasting and prayer is one of the most powerful spiritual combinations on earth. True fasting brings humility and alignment with God. It breaks the power of flesh and demons. It kills unbelief and brings answers to prayer when nothing else works.
It has been well said that prayer is not preparation for the battle - prayer IS the battle. And of all the things we can do to enhance the power and focus of prayer, fasting is doubtless the most potent.
This is where the power is at, because fasting puts us in harmony with an All Powerful God who demands humility from those who wish to be close to Him. Fasting humbles the flesh. When it is done for that purpose, it pleases the Spirit of God.
You can go a certain distance in God, and experience many things, without fasting much, but the highest, richest and most powerful blessings always go to those who together with other disciplines, fast much unto God. The most significant Biblical characters, with the possible exception of Abraham, were all men of fasting and prayer. Jesus, the Son of God, was a man of fasting and prayer (Matthew 4:2). So was the apostle Paul (2 Corinthians 11:27). Moses fasted 80 days. Elijah fasted 40 days. The early church fasted before starting any major work. The greatest spiritual leaders of the 20th century who are making an impact are all men of fasting of prayer to my knowledge. Anyone who started a significant spiritual movement in Christianity was, to the best of my knowledge - Luther, Wesley, Finney, Booth were all men of fasting. In our day, Cho, Bonnke, Osborn, Annacondia are all men of much fasting. If done right, fasting counts a lot with God.
Fasting is not magic, nor does it twist the arm of God. God wants to do many amazing things, but He looks for those willing to urgently make the corrections needed to come into line with him. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Successful fasting is also the fastest way to learn patience. It takes patience and endurance to fast for more than a day. Many of God's tests come quicker to us when we fast, and we have a better opportunity to pass them. If we want to go far with God we would have to face these tests anyway, but much later, and in a more time consuming and difficult way. We need to "bite the bullet" and embrace the correction God wants to apply to our souls.
Fasting gives you God's focus for your life. It is a major key to hearing God's voice (the other is true worship - the two are related). We need focus from God more than anything. The world we live in is working overtime to distract us, to entice us, to win our hearts and minds, our focus, and to determine our vision. Fasting cuts out the world so we can tune into God. If we are obedient to God fasting will make us catalysts for revival and awakening.
Examples of Fasting and Prayer and the Purpose God Had in It
Ezra the priest fasted for God's protection while carrying valuable things for God's temple. We too can fast for God's protection. (Ezra 8:21-23)
Daniel the prophet fasted for the fulfilment of God's promises, and received mighty revelations from God. (Daniel 10:3).
Jesus fasted and spoke the Word of God to overcome Satan (See Matthew 4:1-10; Luke 4:1-13).
Jesus fasted to begin his public ministry, and have the power of God and the anointing. (Luke 4:14).
Elijah needed to fast 40 days before he heard God's voice again. (1 Kings 19:8)
Moses fasted to receive the Ten Commandments and the Law of God, and to see God's glory and goodness.
The elders, prophets and teachers in Antioch fasted and ministered to God, which resulted in the launching of Paul and Barnabas' apostolic ministry to the Gentiles (Acts 13:2,3). Likewise we should fast and pray before getting involved in full time ministry and mission work.
Jesus says to us in Matthew 6:16, "When you fast..." not "If you fast". A true disciple of the Lord will fast at times.
God made it clear through the prophet Joel that the last days outpouring of the Spirit will be in proportion to our fasting and crying out to God in humility, hunger and repentance. (Joel 1:5; Joel 2:12).
Even wicked King Ahab's fast moved God so that he did not bring full judgment down on him in his own lifetime (1 Kings 21:27).
The Pain of Fasting
Fasting is not easy. There are degrees of fasting, of course. The pain of fasting is twofold. The physical pain is due to the detoxification of our bodies. All the accumulate poison and garbage starts to come into our blood and we feel dreadful. This can be alleviated by fasting on juice. With juice fasting you have some control on the speed of your body's detoxification.
The soulish pain is due to the conflict in the spiritual realm between your flesh and the Spirit of God. This goes behind the natural desire to eat. There is soulish pain because:
1. Most times our bodies are demanding food 3 times a day and complain that food is needed when they are denied. A little training in fasting soon clears up this misconception.
2. You cannot use food as an emotional crutch to give pleasure, drowsiness, satisfaction and escape. Instead you must depend on God for comfort.
3. You are brought face to face with other painful issues in your life. God reveals the need for you to forgive others, to repent of your wicked ways, to stop running from Him and start trusting Him. There is thus also a spiritual and soulish detoxification which happens when we fast.
4. You will be attacked by demonic forces seeking to induce you to give up the fast. Jesus experienced this in the wilderness with Satan (Matthew 4:1-10). Great spiritual victories are won or lost on our willingness to endure spiritual hardship and temptation out of love and faithfulness to the Lord.
5. You will experience weakness at times, and we like to feel strong and in control. Fasting teaches us dependence upon God.
Prayer and Fasting Testimonies
A number of people ask what you may or may not have during fasting. This depends of what God called you to do. It is normal to drink water during fasting. Never go without water more than three days. An easier fast which is more suitable for those who have other responsibilities which require energy is to drink only juice and water. Another way to fast is just to eat one meal per day for a number of days. All these fasts can have value. God will lead you.
You can get more information on the technical aspects of fasting at www.fasting.ws. Suffice for now to say that you SHOULD drink water and plenty of it when you fast. If you are working and unable to fast fully on water, you can drink juice or even have one meal a day, and these partial fasts do also have some value in subduing the flesh and bringing you closer to God.
I want to make more information available on this subject as time goes on. Please join me in seeking God and we can pray for each other that God will strengthen us in our resolve to let Him teach us to wait upon Him with fasting, prayer and the Word.

Fasting
*I've been praying for forgiveness and peace. In the last year, I cheated on my husband of over 18 years. I have told my husband everything and he still loves me and wants to keep our marriage together and work on our relationship. I am trying so hard and praying everyday that I can put this affair behind me and that the feelings that I had/have for this other man will subside and that I can get the feelings back that I felt for my husband before this affair happened. Do you think fasting is a way to prove to God that I want his forgiveness and want the peace and love I once had with my husband? I'm just so unhappy and hurt right now and I have to find away out of this.
HELP NEED URGENT HELP!!!
I am not usually of this mindset. yet recently, I have been more child like than I have ever Been. I mean, the bad parts of childishness, it is like a cloudiness that comes over my head and the clear thinking that I have been known and able to use, the sound mind that I have been promised is very hard to find. I was diagnosed with MS and 3 different diseases and the illness has progressed and slowed and for quite some time I believed I was being healed, but lately I have had issues with the emotions and feelings trying to lead me. I am not to be led by these. God is my Shepherd. I am asking for your Prayers! for I wish to draw closer to the Lord and become an intercessory prayer warrior for my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. I Even feel as though everyone on this sight thinks that I am nuts. Yet I know that I am not always in my right mind of late. But there are times when i am very sound. So at this time while I have a moment of clarity, I write and ask for your Prayers and help.? Love your sister in Christ Jesus, Annette
Annette
When you are facing great health challenges of course there will come temptations, but your availability to God and His purposes to be accomplished through intercessory prayer is very precious and valuable. It makes a difference in God's kingdom.
Thank You Michael! please
Thank You Michael! please let your sweet Marilena. Know that you are all in my prayers still! Love in Christ Jesus, Annette

Re: Fasting
You have not sinned against God, but you have sinned against your husband.
Mat 6:14
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Joh 20:23
Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them;
Your husband has forgiven your sin.
Pick up the pieces of your marriage, and begin again.
Joh 8:10,11
10) Jesus is saying unto ("YOU"), Woman, where are thine accusers, hath any man condemned thee?
11) You can say, No man, Lord. And Jesus is saying unto you, (NEITHER DOES YOUR HUSBAND CONDEMN THEE): ("GO", and "SIN NO MORE").
You have gained the forgiveness you have sought after,
The forgiveness you seek is within your grasp, it is at your fingertips, accept the forgiveness given to you by your husband, for he is the only one who can forgive you, God forgave you before the foundations of the earth, then sent His son to hang on the cross for this sin, knowing you would come to this (Cross + Road) in your life.
You cannot prove anything to God by fasting, He knows the condition of your heart.
Your part now, is to REPENT of the sin, that means, Go and Sin No More, cease from Adultery forever, your husband has proven his love for you, now "YOU" honor him by Loving him and respecting him for "The Man of God He Is"
Eph 5:25-29
25) Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26) That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27) That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28) So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29) For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

Re Fasting/Jim
Just a quick note Jim on your opening statement above "You have not sinned against God, but you have sinned against your husband." Joseph knew that if he caved in to Mrs Potiphar, he would in fact be sinning against God (Gen. 39:9). He ran for his life and got thrown in jail. But God had it all worked out eh! In Jospeh's case he would be sinning against God, Potiphar, and his wife and against his own body as Paul points out - 1 Cor. 6:18.
Re: Your quick note
IAN
Thank you very much.
But I would ask you to go back to Chapter 5 where Paul starts his statements, in order to gain the entire context of what he is actually talking about.
His letter was not to warn us against fornicating with a Harlot. it was to inform the people of that congregation in Corinth, that they should not associate with the one who was having sex with (either his mother, or his step mother).
1Cor. 5:6
Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
That is what Paul was speaking about, the Harlot is the one who was sinning, and if the body kept a relationship with him, they too would become polluted with his sin.
In their not excommunicating him they were in effect joined to a harlot and they were partakers of his sin.
Therefore Gen 39 does not apply on two counts.
1) Potiphars wife was not a Harlot
2) Paul was not speaking about the physical act of Fornication.
It was an allegory to the Church at Corinth, about not associating with sinners and by extension to us.

I see your letter was posted some time ago-let us all know how you are doing ok? All sin is first and foremost against God. He has forgiven you because of Jesus. Your husband has forgiven you. Your problem was (is?) your feelings for the "other man". I definitely believe that fervent prayer and fasting will without doubt, loose the stranglehold that the devil has over your emotions. I believe that satan & co are able to make us attracted to people whom God does not want in our lives. I had a friend who before she got saved, put a "love-spell" on a man who had no interest whatever in her. He refused to even look at her. Immediately after she put a love-spell on him, he was totally besotted with her (but she lost interest in him!) I am saying that it is possible that satan is keeping you attracted to this man, the best weapons we have are 1: our will 2: the Name of Jesus 3: Fasting and prayer, in situations like this. (Your will is to NOT feel attracted to the man.)
Put Jesus first in your life every moment. If He knows He is the first in your life, He will help you in this battle and you will get back your feelings for your husband. Meantime, don't hurt him by saying you do not have feelings for him. Rather, show love through your actions and smile and all these things combined-you WILL win! "Thanks be to God who causes us to ALWAYS triumph through Jesus Christ." It may not be an instant victory-but gradual-but never let up! Keep the pressure on through prayer and fasting sis. By the way, in case someone doesn't know-anyone who indulges in psychics or spells or any other form of witchcraft, will go to the Lake of Fire. The Bible makes that very clear. We have a God (Jesus) who loves us cares for us and wants the best for us. But it isn't ultimately about US-it is about Him. It is about us loving Him. He laid down His life for us, now it is our turn to lay down our life for Him.
thank you
i am so thankful that i jumped on this site. i think this is what i need coz for the past three and a half months, i am so lost. i want to move on but i can't. still i am longing for an answers what happened to my past relationship. we never had closeure. he was just gone, after asking me not to give up on him. yes, we love each other but we have a problem concerning his past (ex wife and kids). i am not asking him to come back if he is not really meant for me, but i just want an answer, a closure between us. i hope that God whisper to him just to have a courage in his heart to tell me what happened and to say goodbye to me if that is for good. maybe by means of fasting, i can see what happened.
Fasting
Hello everyone
This is my first time to post here and I am glad to found this site.
I am fasting now (it's my 2nd day). I am planning to fasting for 21 days.
Yes, I have a problem with my fiance. We argued and I am not so sure that we still moving on (but honestly, I don't want to lose him as I am still in love with him). But he seems to keep the distance between us.
My question is: "Can I fasting and praying for win his heart again?" or "Can I fasting to get the answer from God about what am I suppose to do with our relationship as now it's just hanging without any solution."
We are planning to get married in March but now it seems impossible to make it come true.
Please, help me and give me some explanation about my fasting if I was doing it right or do I have to reconsider my main purpose of fasting?
Thank you so much and God bless you all
Main purpose of fasting
You can't use fasting to make someone else do something. But your fasting can greatly help you to get in tune with God and His mind for you, so that you know what God wants you to do. God can also use your prayers to work and create opportunities for your fiance to change. But He won't force Him. He'll help him to see things though.
Fasting
How can I safely fast when I am a stay-at-home mother of a 3 year old. I want to do this but don't want to risk her safety if I am weak either.
Thank you so much Michael. I
Thank you so much Michael.
I will change my purpose of fasting before its too late and my fasting would mean nothing. My mum joining me to fasting and we pray together everyday.
Hopefully it would help me to get to know what God wants in my relationship with my fiance and may God gives me the answer.
God bless you Michael
needing partners to join me in fast for restoration to my brain
I need an answer to my prayer for healing, I am taking the word like medicine every day and I listen to the bible recording all day even while I sleep..., i take authority over my body against these symptoms..I need prayer and fasting partners to help move gods hand on my behalf..fasting for faith and strength as well..i have 4 children and 2 are very young. i know god healed me on calvary, my brain and nervous system need restored..and I want a closer walk with Jesus more than anything..I want his perfect will in my life...and to do my calling and purpose on this earth. Find me on facebook Ariane Bloom in Ohio..please join me in fasting and prayer for my restoration. I won't glorify the symptoms but they are psychological and are a result of discontinuing ativan to quickly. I know I will be fine, but I need to be closer to jesus, and I need strength, faith, direction, and I want God to speed this up!
I don't know much but I do
I don't know much but I do know this! Fasting isn't for changing God...it's for changing us!
but I'm sure you already knew that
anyway, one thing I have to keep in mind when I fast is that God is perfect, I'm not. and foremost; "My (God's) grace is sufficient for thee (me): for my (God's) strength is made perfect in (my) weakness. When I begin a fast that scripture is my staying power! I encourage you to (as much as possible) meditate and pray and listen to praise and worship music so as to remain in an attitude of prayer. Remember, God Is Able...I too suffered what I considered psychological symptoms, seemingly out of nowhere and very suddenly...my lilfe then began to FALL APART! It took me a while to realize this was an attack of the enemy! When I began to fast and pray (not religious words) I IMMEDIATELY sensed God's presence upon me and a PEACE I had not known or felt in months if not years! Be Still and Know That I AM GOD was constantly on my heart so I found "Still" by Hillsong and played it repeatedly to instill faith and I'm certain God will do all of the same for you AND MORE...because He's an EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANT GOD! So much so that HE is able to do more than we can even ask OR THINK!
fasting
This I Know,We can change the mind of God on somethings,I can testify of this with situautions
I want to ask question
When i read your message,i was told to ask you that have you involved in masturbation before?JOHN 4:24.if so tell God to cleanse you through his blood totally.and be born again.
I will fast a meal for you.
Ari, I will fast my lunch today and spend the time in prayer for you. I would encouarage you to read "Blessing or Curse: You can 'Choose" by Derek Prince. I think you may find some helpful things in there! http://www.amazon.com/Blessing-Curse-You-Can-Choose/dp/0800794087
We do not fast to "move God's hand" as that is a form of manipulation on our part. Move his heart by first moving yours.... which is what I see you are doing! Keep moving your heart to line up with His, and when it does, the healing and freedom will flow.
thank you!
Yes, move his heart, thats what I meant
thank you and God Bless you greatly! I will get that book.
Ariane
Sister, God loves to heal his people. He wants you to be there for your children. Thank you for fighting this fight for THEIR sakes. As you continue to put on the mind of Christ, you will find the other symptom decrease and disappear. There is a stronghold there from the enemy. Do you have a husband supporting you in this?, or, are you 'on your own'?
When you get symptoms, tell them "return to sender" and let them know Jesus picked up the tab for them on the cross... I would encourage you to be aware of what you are listening to and viewing. Play praise music and set no wicked thing before your eyes... as our eyes and ears are openings for the enemy. You are on the right path! Keep on it and you will get where you are going!!
The postman was telling me yesterday how his pastor preached on Psalm 23 and emphasized, "though I walk THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death... I will fear no evil." You are simply passing THROUGH this phase, but he will lead you home. Trust him, follow him and he will supply for your family. God bless you!
"Father, strengthen Ari and the children. Help them draw close to you. Provide all their needs and heal their mommy. Heal Ariane's brain and nervous system. Forgive her any abuse she may have done to them. Thank you Father that you care, and that you paid the price, giving us your Son, in whose name, Jesus Christ, we pray, amen."
Ariane, I speak peace to your nervous system and strength and clarity to your brain as well, in the name of Jesus.
Tim
Hi tim
My husband is now more supportive yes but at first he refused to belive that I could even be going through this..he's very cold and distant but I am doing my part, not judging, not returning coldness, loving him etc...and I have already claimed his salvation. Thank you for your prayers and support. INsteaed of talking to others who are going through this same thing, i am talking to people who have been healed by god, getting good testimonies in my heart, and filling myself with his word which is life and health to my bones.
good book on fasting
its called FASTING by jentezen franklin...he says that when you fast you are constantly praying, you are always in worship..so if you fast a whole day you have prayed a whole day. He has seen many great things as a result of fasting...I am not used to going totally without food, so I am working my way up to just a water fast...i'm down to orange juice and different types of broths etc. I know it will help build my faith, change me and put me in line to recieve all he has in store for me. I thank God every day for avenues such as this to touch his heart and I thank him for others who are willing to help me!
How, for how long and why?
Well... I wonder about a lot of things. So I thought I would start with prayer and fasting.
I got saved when I was 16 years old, baptized and all. So I started praying for a gift.
I went to meetings in my Pentecostal church that I still attend to.
And after praying for a while an old lady told me that God has given me the gift of prayer.
I don't know how much I did about it because I don't remember. I drifted little by little from God,
my life got pretty tough. But now I am back for good.
And I cant help to wonder about things, all sorts of things hehe.
Well, is there such a gift, prayer? Because we can all pray.
What did the old lady mean? What can I find out about prayer?
what do I need to know to use this gift properly as God wants me to?
And how does one fast? For how long depending on what?
I have heard one can fast for one day, as I have hehe, but I get headaches very easy. What can I do about that?
I love what U wrote here, a lot of useful information. But still I need to know more.
Jesus fasted for 40 days to begin his public ministry, and have the power of God and the anointing.
I have so many things to pray for, my family, my boys, ANOINTING. I don't know how to.
I mean, some things take longer to fast for I guess, don't they? I don't know if U can understand. I hope U do.
I heard about fasting from 24.00 till 12.00, then from 24.00 till 18.00 and from 24 till 24. 4 weeks, 40 days, 80 days.
I just cant figure it out. I need help. I want and I need anointing, how many days for that?
And I want and need for God to give me a good Christian man who I can share all joy in God with, how many days for that?
And I want to be able to pray and not be distracted all the time, to be able to concentrate, I need structure in my life.
How do I know how long I need to fast. There is so much I need to learn its overwhelming some times, I do not want to get confused as I feel I have. can I fast for that, and again for how long. Haha, don't mean to be silly I just am he.
Hope U can give me device an help me, be mega blessed <3
Fasting
God is not concerned with the length of the fast we decide to have, but what He is most concerned with is, the condition of our heart.
At the moment we determine we will fast, God looks at our heart to see the reason of the fast.
It is on the same order as the moment Abraham determined in his heart to sacrifice Isaac.
God honored the willingness to sacrifice his son, He honored the condition of his heart.
The actual sacrificing of Isaac, could not have been honored more, than his willingness to do so.
God does not honor all fasts, no matter how long they might be.
Some use Moses', or even Jesus' (40 days) as the example to follow for a fast.
But when we look at both of these fasts, neither Moses or Jesus had planed or determined in their hearts to fast for anything at all.
Moses went up into the mount to receive from God, Jesus was driven into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit.
I cannot say if either one ever believed it was going to take 40 days.
When we say, I am going to fast, has the fast been prompted by God?
Or is it out of our own need, which determines the fast?
God already knows our needs before we ask, if the only time we fast is when we have a need, then our motive is wrong.
Fasting is the best way for us to truly commune with God, the same as Adam communed, because Adam did not have to overcome the flesh the way we do because of the fall of Adam.
How about just fasting to commune with God, the Creator of the Universe, and no other reason.
Do you think you would not receive a blessing just by being in the presence of God?
Even if it was only for, ONE MEAL, or ONE DAY, it is all about our motive.

fasting hr
Depends,If Daniel had stopped before 21 days,he would not have seen the visions.some things only come because of fasting. Its depends on what you are trying to do,this I know for fact.but if its just to get closer then thats a different matter, but if you must have an answer now,( a real answer)then you fast until you recieve no matter what,I have done this and have been answered completely, phisicaly and spiritually, depends on what you are looking for
fasting
It is true that a fast can be initiated by God and we can follow that prompting to fast, without actually knowing why we are fasting (though we should spend a bit of time at least, asking Him why we are fasting-whether He tells us or not, just continue.)
And it is true that closeness with God is a good reason to fast, because it does have the effect of drawing us nearer to Him, doesn't it. But to say that we should "never fast for a need, because our Heavenly Father knows our needs before we ask" is not Scriptural in that sense. Because we see people fasting in the Bible for various needs, one example is when Nehemiah wanted God to provide a safe passage to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple; another is when Jesus told His disciples that in order to cast the demon out of an epileptic, they needed prayer and fasting-again, a specific need. It isn't wrong to set a fast and it isn't wrong to set one for a specific need. One cannot make God do anything He doesn't want to, but we can clear the way through a fast for Him to answer; fasting and prayer can cause satan & his mob to back off and allow God to perform His will; as was the case with Daniel and the "prince of Persia."
fasting
While you are right if Daniel had stopped, he would not have seen the vision.
But we see from Daniel 9
Dan 9:3
And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
Daniel went into his fast with a specific purpose in mind, his purpose was not based in himself, but for the people (Nation) of Israel.
He began interceding for the Nation.
Dan 9:5,6
5) We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
6) Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
Dan 9:20,21
20) And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;
21 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.
God saw the condition of Daniel's heart, humbling himself to God for the people, so God rewarded him.
Dan 9:22
And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.
Be Blessed

Someone fasted for me
28 years ago a Church of God preacher,I barely knew, would visit from time to time, decided my soul was worth saving,so without my knowledge, said he would eat no more ,til I came to church,14 days later the Spirit of God pressed at me hard,I found myself in church and very shortly after Jesus saved my soul.I have never been the same since. this may not sound like much but for me to be in church was a mighty mircle, and the preacher was a man of strong faith to put himself in a vow like that,God honored his request.I thank God for him and wish we had more like that.he's dead now.but he;s with Jesus
To Holy Roller
Fabulous testimony! I love your name too! You are a real blessing to God and His people.
Thats amazing love
re how long and why fast hr
Fasting without a cause or to recieve from the Lord sometimes does more harm than good. How do you know the results without a burden ,or know when your prayer was heard. I have done very much over the years,I have seen great miracles because of it. But I also have learned while you are fasting and the body is changing from food to burning body fat,it is an emotional pressure and without a set goal as to your reason you can't be sure of the result. If I just want to keep the flesh under greater subjection to the spirit I suggest instead of a meal ,pray instead,1 meal a day to start. I have been 2 days every week for over 2 years, for a deeper understanding of spititual things.many days at a time for mircles that I had to have. Now I only speak of my ways, everyone has to follow their own heart . I don't say this for conversation,I don't like to fast, but to get some things done, its a must.A fast is a sacrifice to God,and must be done in as private as possible, then he will reward you openly, but if it is done for boosting, the pat on the back from people is your reward ,don't look for 1 from God. don' vow to fast more than you can do or you will feel bad about yourself.offer 1 sacrifice at a time(meal) as a gift to the Lord unless it is for a burden and then look for it to be done, this will make you strong in spirit and weak in the flesh.
There is no formula for spirit-led fasting
Hi YahwehGirl,
We are all called to pray, but some are called to intercession, which is getting specific prayer projects from the Lord where He directs us how to pray for others.
You can't "buy" the things you desire from God with fasting. You can fast as you are able, as you have faith, and your purpose is to humble your flesh and subdue your natural impulses so you can get more aligned with God and what He wants you to do through the Spirit of God.
Just start as you are able and see how the Lord directs you.
fasting
I am starting a new fast I really need to learn to believe god answers all my prayers. I also want my husband back. So I am fasting for that and to over come temptation. I am starting the fast right now. I need guidence and I am praying for it. I receive alot of it from this site.
I'm starting a fast
I have been actually fasting for over month now without realizing that's what the Holy Spirit was leading me to do. I have been going 2 to 3 days not eating at all. Even the thought of food doesn't interest me at all. I pray and pray and study. I am doing it now. I understand how to fast. I am fasting for my husband and I to get back together, for him and this other woman to permenantly be separated, and for him to forgive me all the wrongs I have done, and to save our marriage. Also, to draw closer to God. I know I have to somewhat weaken the flesh. So it's only liquids for me. I will pray and I will let the spirit guide me what to pray and I will pray without ceasing. Continueously!
:)
Remember that one of the nine fruits of the holy-spirit is long-suffering friend. Remember that you and your husband are soul mates forever. Christ's love endured and so will yours. I'll pray for you.
fasting for miracles
I know of a case where God brought a man and wife back together after few years, because of fasting and prayer,,but for best results for got to have it now miracle,,,,is this 1st keep your sacrifices to God in secret,he will reward you openly,,,2nd no food at all, maybe water now and then ,at least 2 hrs every meal offered as sacrifice,,,,in prayer ,,,,donot quit until goal is reached,no matter what,,,,,and God will answer ,,,,,1 way or another, plainly,,but much be willing to go the distance,,,your faith will be tested but you will reap if you faint not,,,,,this is for real,,,,,
fasting for mircles 2
what is meant by offerings at meals is instead of eating ,replace it with prayer,,,don.t eat but spend the time you would take for lunch or whatever,,,this is the sacrifice to God,when I am on a burduned with a great need,,,,I will find myself on an alter at least for lunch hour or dinner or so on,,,if you want to see results of some of great works of God from this very thing,,look at posts of holyroller foe example only,,,every child of God has to work out their own of course but just trying to help,,,may God bless....to whom it may concern
I will remain faithful
Thank you for your words of kindness. I felt that already. This is between me and God. How do I offer the food as a sacrifice? When I would normally eat pray and offer it up to God? I will pray and ask the God to send the Holy spirit to help me. Jesus said the holy spirit was our helper. I was guided and lead to this site. So I know there was a purpose behind it. I need to do more studying of the lessons. I need to build myself up in the word. Listen to what I read and then pray as I go. The Holy Spirit will help me. I need to also pray for the knowledge (the word), understanding ( the ability to know what the knowledge means), and wisdom ( to know how to put what I learn from the meanings of the knowledge into practice into my life and within me). Once this food is digested it will flow threw out my entire body. Then erupt into my life overflowing. Shining like bright northern star. Others will notice and want what I have found. And I will say like in Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it shall be given unto thee, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto thee." I shall rejoice in my trials. For my trials are from God. God does not cause me to suffer. All good things come from God. I shall not faint, in the name of Jesus, I will not fall away from my faith again! I know the truth, the truth will set me free.
Thats really great
May God strengthen your spirit on this fast and grant you revelation that will lead to great faith before God.
Thank you Michael
...for an inspiring article on fasting! And all of you for many enlightening views! I've found many comments very encouraging and sound. Fasting is very rare these days.. I definitely feel I need to find a way and learn to fast. So thank you everyone!
pray together
hello. I would like to know how should we pray when we come together?
I have seen different ways of praying in three different churches were I have felloweshipped.
In the church I am now people all pray at the same time and clap and you cannot hear what they say. Before, in the other churches, people use to take turns in praying, listening to each other. Only when there was the time of praising everyone was doing it at the same time. I would like to hear from more mature christians what are the biblical passages they can recommend me to bring clarity onto this.
Thanks.
Re: Prayer together
Hi Sasha
In order to answer your question, I would ask one.
What seems to be the one you felt was right, most comfortable, less confusing?
1) People take turns in praying, listening to each other, when there was the time of praising everyone was doing it at the same time.
2) People all pray at the same time and clap and you cannot hear what they say.
As far as a Scripture for you, the best one I can think of would be, (1Co 14) see if it apply's to your situation. You have not said what kind of Church, or (Denomination) you are attending, that does make a difference.
Your living in the Netherlands might also make things different than here in the U.S.A.
But simply put, "God is not the author of confusion", so if you feel uncomfortable when this happens, or things seem out of control, then they usually are.
Be Blessed
JIM
Thanks Jm. I definetly feel
Thanks Jim. I definetly feel more comfortable in the first situation and also thought about the words spoken in 1Cor14. I just feel that no one seems to bother about this situation in the church and wanted to ask other christians their advice. Also, what should I do. I have tried to talk with the pastor (in a very shy way) about this.
The church I am going to is called De deur or The door and it also has several churches in U.S.A.
I have been thinking about finding other church, but in the city I live I don't see any other church that approaches more to what the church of Christ is supposed to be than this one. I see we fall short in many things, but somehow I think I should encourage other people and ask what they think about this situation instead of leaving them, as I also see I fall short in many things. I just really would like to see this church more passionate about God (including me). Sometimes I come with a huge desire of praying, I come praying on the way from my home to the church and as soon as I get there and see people are chatting about worldly things or either each one praying on their own without listening to each other, I feel so discouraged and end up not praying!!! then I feel so sad.
Could you also, please tell me, how does it work in the church's you have been? and advise me about this situation.
Thanks again,
Sasha
Desperation alert!
Hello dear friends, this is my first time on this site. I was actually googling something(fasting) when I saw it. I have got a problem. I can see how unsuitable it is to post on this site but please bear with me.. I need your help. I have been living in sin, having premarital sex with my boyfriend (I am not proud of this). Now I have fallen pregnant(its 1 month old) and h is not calling m. I last spoke to him two days ago. In my culture it is taboo to get pregnant without a husband( yes, I should have thought of this b4, I knw), people really laugh at you. I dnt want to be laughed at because this also happened to my mother. I grew up without a dad( I knw how it feels and I dnt want my son to grow up without his). I explained all this to him and told him tht he should marry m. H has not given m a reply even though in the past(its been 3yrs) hs asked m to marry him. I dnt knw wat to do, my mother will kill me! I have decided to turn to fasting and prayer.. I have decided to repent. I do not want to abort, I feel it is so wrong. Neither do I want to commit suicide( yes, the idea did pop into my head). Can I fast and pray for God to make him marry m? It is silly but thr is nothing else I can think of. Thr r other options in my culture, witchdoctors and all but I cnt use them. Though I sinned, I'm a christian. Wat do u think? Cn I fast and pray? Pliz reply sn, desperation can point to the most unfortunate solutions( its not your fault but this is true). Oh, I'm 21 years old. Thank u for reading!
P.s I am very depressed at the moment. Rily depressed.
What to do - desperation alert
Dear Deeply Troubled,
This is surely a tough moment for you. God meant sex only for marriage because He is a Loving Father who has in mind especially YOUR protection.
This is a wake-up call for you. If you had died without repenting of your sin my understanding is you would have gone to eternal HELL because the Bible says that no fornicator (someone who has a sexual relationship before marriage) will enter the Kingdom of God - unless they repent (stop, change).
Please do not add to your sin by murdering your little child.
Please do not add to your sin by going to a servant of the devil for help.
Now is the time for you to turn to God.
Truly give your life to Jesus Christ.
When you do this then God will forgive all your sins.
I know one woman in Australia who was a single mother as a young woman and is now a mighty woman of God being used as a (true) prophetess around the nation.
God has a good plan for you if you surrender your life to God. You need to trust Him. The sin which you got into was proof you were not really fully trusting Him. Now is a chance to change.
You can't "make" your boyfriend do anything. Fasting will not necessarily change him. Fasting might change YOU to help you come into the plan of God for your life from this point on. That is the most important. That said, I don't think you should do a long fast. That could be harmful for your child and you need to care for your child now.
I do hope your boyfriend truly cares but many men are simply interested in sexual fulfilment and they are scared of responsibility. Again this is why God requires men to commit in a solemn covenant BEFORE they go around sleeping with and impregnating the woman of their choice.
If you project DESPERATION to your boyfriend it may actually scare him away.
I would recommend trusting God, whether or not your boyfriend truly cares. You need a loving Father in heaven more than you need a husband. I do hope you will get to enjoy both, but you need to trust God and surrender unconditionally to God for best results in life.
Confusion at its worst! Help!
Thank u so much for replying. You are right, I would have gone to hell. I thank the Lord for giving m anthr chance to repent. I thank Him for the blood of Jesus which can wash the darkest of sins. But Michael, Jesus Christ said, "ask anything in my name and I will do it". And he also said, "do not be anxious about anything but with prayer and supplication let ur requests be known unto God". The bible also said nothing is impossible for God. Can't God change the hardest of hearts? R ther limitations to Gods power tht the bible does not talk of? Michael, all I wnt is a dad for my kid. R u saying there's a chance tht God may not permit tht? Maybe its childish but I dnt wnt to be a single parent when the man I love is alive and kicking. The bible says ther is no shame for those who trust in the Lord, obviously not having a husband will bring shame upon m. I'm sori I'm not writing the verses, I dnt have my bible so I'm jus taking the verses from my head. I do trust in God and what he said bout asking and receiving. I knw He said He knws the plans He has for me, plans to make m prosper but I dnt c any other plan tht will make m prosper but my being married to my boyfriend. I dnt knw, please help. There's a war within me. If I can't fast, is there anything I can do to get my wish? Maybe I'm simply a baby christian. I can't understand.
Reply to "Confusion at its worst"
Dear Deeply troubled,
First, I applaud you for being courageous enough to bring your circumstances "into the light". The Enemy of our soul likes to keep us in shame by keeping things "hidden in darkness". Once its out, and in the light, then healing can start to take place!
I also would like to confirm that the advice given to you by "Michael", [I believe he is the Administrator on this site] was extremely sound and scriptural counsel.
I would also like to add further counsel based on your posts....
First, regarding the "Confusion at its worst" that you are feeling. 1 Cor 14:33 "God is not the author of confusion but of peace..." Any decisions you make should wait until you feel peace from God....and it is very important at this specific season in your life not to walk by feelings, but rather, by faith!
Second, you asked about the scripture "ask anything in my name and I will do it". It is always important to read our scriptures within the context that they are in. (John 15:12-15) "12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. 15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments."
It is also confirmed by the following Scripture: "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us." 1 John 5:13-15
I am sure you are familiar with "The Lords Prayer" Some people in some countries refer to it as "The Our Father"....but in that prayer, there is one line that says "Thy Will be Done". No matter what our circumstances are, those four words are the most powerful prayer we can pray. First, they show total surrender and submission to our Lord....but they also demonstrate total Trust and Faith in Him to do what is the best for us.
At this particular season in your life, you feel that marrying your boyfriend is the only way out and the solution to your situation. God may have another plan and although it may not make any sense to you right now, if you Trust Him, I promise you that what the Enemy meant for evil in your life, the Lord will turn to good...but it is often a process, not always immediate.
Finally (But Most Important of all) You must not do harm to yourself or your child....for it is a child.
I Bless you and leave you with these words from the Book of Joshua (1:6-8) “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go."
just wondering
is it wrong for me to fast for financial help? please dont get me wrong. i dont intend to de greedy. this is the first time ive admitted it but i am struggling financially. with my wife caring for my sick mother and our two beautiful kids, im the only one working to support my family and i have to admit, ive been having my struggles. we've been struggling to make mortgage and loan payments that just recently we got a letter from the bank that they are looking into repossesing our house. i started fasting and praying more a little over a month ago. i prayed for world peace and global warming to decrease because i do want my kids to live in the world that God created to his likeness, for my team "the All Blacks" to win this years RWC and yes for financial help. i can tell you that alot has changed. even though its not enough, we have been getting some help from people that i thank the Lord for. also im not stressing out on the little things like i used to and ive been able to control my temper also. but is it wrong to fast and pray for those things?
To 1122
Thank God someone was praying and fasting for the All Blacks to win! Ha!
Seriously though, if you read the Gospel of Matthew 24 brother, you will see that it is useless to pray for "world peace" (an end to wars) because Jesus said there WILL be an increase in wars in the last days and great earthquakes in many places, the seas roaring (hurricanes and tsunamis) etc..He said, "All these are the beginning of sorrows.." As for global warming-it doesn't exist, but no room in this site to discuss that. You can pray for your government ot make decisions that will prolong peace and you can pray God to have mercy on your country though. If there is an effective (godly and fervent) intercessor, He may well show mercy.
I am so glad you are getting some financial help. Please let us all know how you got on. I long that you have all your financial needs taken care of! I feel too, that you need to read the Book of Acts and see what happened each time people received the Holy Ghost-they all received the same evidence. Try Acts 2:4, 10:45,46; 19:6; and Jesus words in Mark 16:17 tie in with those verses too; and see I Corinthians 14:5.
If you have never had this Biblical evidence, then there is good news for you (really good news!) you have never entered into the full measure of the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Which means, in short-there is MORE for you! Much more-so that if you enjoy Jesus now, you will even more so! Ask Jesus for this wonderful gift and do not settle for less. The tongues is not the gift-the Holy Ghost is! (Tongues is only the outward evidence of having received the gift of the Holy Ghost.) I sincerely hope your financial woes are over-let us all know.
