Christian items used for protection

I was involved with occult stuff, and explored other religions besides Christianity, and am trying to undo the damage now. Part of that involves getting rid of various possessions in my house. I got rid of all the obvious ones. And now I'm getting down to ones I'm still not sure about. Someone told me I had to get rid of ALL of my Catholic stuff (statues of Archangel Michael, Joan of Arc, Mary, etc., crucifixes, holy water, various medals, paintings, cards, etc.), and of any crosses, pictures of Jesus, blessed oil, or Bibles that I used "for protection". What do you all think about that? She said that any item assigned a purpose (like protection) automatically moves into the occult area (this includes holy water & anointing oil, too--which a lot of churches still use). I still feel unsure about this. Any thoughts? I also have statues of angels in general, and am unsure whether these would count as things to get rid of, as well.
