Which Jesus are you talking about, Adam?
Adam,
You like to put negative constructions on certain passages concerning the life and ministry of Jesus, and then deny the truthfulness of others that come from the same texts you are using to attack the character of Jesus.
You like to put yourself above the Bible as the authority over the Bible. Presumably, you get to decide which parts are "legends" and which parts are based on true historical accounts. Further, you get to read certain extra information into the text so that you can justify your attacks on the person of Jesus.
You dismiss the resurrection accounts of Jesus, which for your information are backed up by thousands of personal visitations since, hundreds of thousands of healings in Jesus' name and a lot more. You dismiss them because "His supposed resurrection can not even be verified out side of the Bible, which is of course not a reliable text in the first places. Seeing as it is a religious text full of legends mixed with bits of history." How is that you are an authority on the Bible now? Where did you get this knowledge?
If a miracle happens in Jesus' name, you side with conservative evangelicals who say it is done by occult power. So it doesn't count for evidence in your mind. Neither does the internal historical evidence. Neither does the testimony of the early church. You are in deep trouble, Adam. I would not trade places with you for all the oil in the Middle East.
I will be the judge of whether my limited resources of time are best employed in dialoguing with you, and whether you like it or not, I am getting ready to make a judgement that they are not.
One reason for this is that I am not sure we are even talking about the same Jesus. I am talking about the one whose deeds were recorded in the New Testament, who is at work today. You are talking about a Jesus who never rose from the dead, who was a violent criminal and deserved to be crucified for harming the business interests of pig farmers by casting demons out. Tell me, do you blame Jesus for casting the demons out? What were these demons that Jesus cast out? Was the casting out of demons a miracle? Or was it only a legend? If a legend, how can you connect Jesus' command (the demons recognised His authority even if you don't) to the loss of the lives of the pigs? But if the whole incident never happened, why are you criticising Jesus for it? I don't see how you can have it both ways. You are merely promoting unbelief and blasphemy and you want to have your cake and eat it too.
