The recent phenomena known as the Lakeland revival has caused quite a storm and has raised many questions in my mind some of which I will endeavour to elaborate on here. Some of the issues have become quite clear over the course of the last few days while others remain a little more obscure.
There is no doubt at all that The Lakeland revival contains many elements that are not of God. I will not go into the specifics here because many of them are covered in previous blog posts on this site but absence of Biblical foundations and spirit guides called Emma are enough proof in themselves.
That being said, I believe that many visitors to the healing meetings, go with an earnest desire to meet with God and that He will reward their faith accordingly.
In this respect I would regard the phenomena as a mixture of blessings.
The extent of this so called revival is quite staggering. Not only do the people who attend the meetings, experience the supernatural, but those watching on God T.V also receive an impartation of some kind. There are even reports of people being healed while buying plane tickets to Florida. Awesome!
Who are what is causing people to be healed is up for debate. It is certainly quite probable that many are experiencing “Satan masquerading as an angel of light” and finding a release from afflictions which in reality are caused by demons in the first place. I would expect that those healings will be short lived will probably return accompanied by depression and a loss of appetite for prayer and bible study.
I am bewildered as to why do so many Pastors travel to Lakeland to receive an impartation when God want to visit Holy Spirit power and anointing upon the churches, right there where they are. This also leads me to consider why our anointed leaders do not recognise this movement for what it really is. Where has the gift of discernment gone?
The sad fact is that this event in Florida reveals a dangerous departure from biblical truth within some sections of the Charismatic/Pentecostal/Evangelical movement.
The weight of evidence has stacked up against Todd Bentley. He is closely associated with men connected with previous revival movements and it is worth taking the time to examine exactly what these past prophets and preachers believed in.
Todd Bentley freely accepts that he has a “Branham anointing”. This is confirmed by the fact that the angel that brought about this present revival is the very same angel that appeared to William Branham, the founder of the post war faith healing movement.
Branham was well known for his belief that doctrine of the Holy Trinity was the doctrine of demons. He was an occultist who studied pyramidology and stated that the
