Concerns about the laughing revival
The laughing movement peaked around 1996 - most people who were into promoting it have since moved on. Its not clear that it has delivered what was promised at all.
Many of the points raised by Eligah seem valid. But what shall we say about John's assertion that "Laughter in the Spirit is a faith-response by our spirit to God's victory through Christ over the devil."
How can we know for sure that this is so? It sounds plausible, but is there any example in the Scripture of a believer's laughter having this signification?
If there is no biblical precedent for this, then perhaps we should say that at very least this manifestation cannot be important.
On joy: Jesus evidently had joy within Himself. He referred to it in John 15. And John had joy - see 1 John 1, first few verses. No where is it stated that Jesus laughed. Nowhere does it say that he did not laugh. Jesus rejoiced. I wonder what that looked like? It does not say.
I welcome discussion on this subject. I would say I do not have the answers yet.
