Many even here have cited the following verse in putting forth that the 10 Commndments are gone or no longer in force:
Colossians 2:14-17 - Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
So lets take a look at each part, first the “handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us” was the law of Moses, not God’s moral law. The Commandments were described in the Bible as being written on stone with His finger (Exodus 31:18) not handwritten by Moses (Deuteronomy 31:9). Also that God’s law was not grievous to us (1 John 5:3) as Moses’ law was a witness against us (Deuteronomy 31:26).
Second the Mosaic Ceremonial Laws dealt with meat and drink offerings and various holydays; the 10 Commandments did not. Also, Mosaic laws did not judge a man, that was not its purpose; those laws were added BECAUSE of transgressions and did not DEFINE the transgression as the Ten Commandments do; these were already shown above.
Now notice that “sabbath days” was used here; plural. The seventh-day Sabbath is usually referred to as “the sabbath day”(singular). The various holy days of Moses’ Law were called sabbaths, that is true, but they all revolved around timing of the moon – not the seven days of creation.
In the Jewish economy there, were two kinds of Sabbaths-the seventh-day Sabbath of the Ten Commandments and the yearly ceremonial Sabbaths of the sanctuary service. The word "sabbath" means rest, and in the Jewish economy there were several yearly feast days on which all the people rested and worshipped. One of these was the Passover. The Passover came on the 14th day of the first Jewish religious month each year. Thus, it came on Monday one year, on Tuesday the next year, etc.'
Scripture shows us the yearly ceremonial sabbaths in Leviticus 16-31- 23-4 44 These yearly feasts pointed forward to Jesus and His ministry and had no more significance after He came. The Passover Sabbath, for example, was actually a prophecy fore telling the day of Jesus' crucifixion. He died on the day of the Passover, at the moment of the slaying of the lamb. Jesus is the true Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5-7)
These yearly ceremonial sabbaths were all instituted as a part of the sanctuary services and pointed forward to Jesus. The Sabbath of the Ten Commandments pointed back to the Creation: "Remember the Sabbath day ... for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth ... and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it." Exodus 20:8-11.
Thus there were two kinds of sabbaths-the yearly ceremonial sabbaths established at Sinai, and the weekly Sabbath established at Creation and embodied in the Law of God. Paul is very clear in Colossians, which sabbaths he is talking about-the ceremonial sabbaths only. Many people read only until the word "sabbaths" and fail to read the rest of the sentence in the next verse. "So let no one judge you in food or in drink or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come but the substance is of Christ." Colossians 2:16,17. Paul said not to judge people regarding these ceremonial sabbaths, but the Bible makes plain that the seventh-day Sabbath is a perpetual memorial.
To give a simple answer to the question posed, "Are the 10 Commandments still valid and in-force today?" I would have to let scripture answer....
If the 10 commandments were written on stone, they MUST be done away, or the Bible is fallible. I suggest the logic of 7th day theology is fallible and the Bible is infallible.
Deu 5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.
Deu 5:13 Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:
Deu 5:14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.
Deu 5:15 therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
7th day theology also fails to acknowledge the Deuteronomy detail of the sabbath day, which tells us it points to being set free from captivity. This liberty is certainly found in Christ rather than a day as the Colossians passage says.
"Where the spirit of the Lord is there is liberty."
This brings me to an exciting testimony I received today.
To repeat a question I have not had answered. Should I stop attending a spirit lead church where the love of God flows and His healing is manifest, to attend a sabbath keeping congregation that I have found to be spiritually dry?
So are you saying "That which is done away" is not a reference to what was written on stone, the 10 commandments? The moral law is written on our hearts, not the 10 commandments.
In saying I cannot depend on my church for my salvation, I take it you are saying my church is not saved? I was where you were. I grew up there in sabbath keeping etc. I am bearing witness that the life and love of God is evident in the church I now attend on Sunday. I also bear witness that the sabbath keeping denomination I attended rejected the healing testimony of how God healed my wife's heart and delivered her from sickness. I have not met a seventh day church that has extended its vision much further than the defense of the seventh day, unless it was perhaps a messianic one.
Michael has a spiritual responsibility in maintaining this board, and I have one as well in moderating it. This supercedes anyone's "rights" to say whatever they personally desire to say.
Christian-faith.com is established as a place where differing ideas may be discussed, but to push the topic relentlessly with little to no regard for the serious points of conflict with scripture is not allowable.
Hobie, you asked the question "Are the 10 Commandments Still Valid and in-force Today?" I quote THE BIBLE, saying the writings written on stone are "done away." Somehow the fact there are no other writings written on stone in scripture other than the 10 commandments does not deter you. This is incomprehensible to me. "I do not see the Law of God being done away with..." You see it that way, the apostle Paul sees it another. I have to believe Paul.
God says, the 10 commandments are "that which is done away" 2 Cor 3:11.
Hobie says, "I don't see the Law of God being done away with," after asking the specific question, "Are the ten commandments still valid and in force today?"
God says, do not judge your brother over what day they esteem.
Hobie says, if you do not keep the 7th day you are wrong.
God says he will make each person to stand (as opposed to withering in condemnation) in the day of judgment,
Hobie says we will be counted as sinners and punished for not esteeming the 7th day.
For those who would like to keep the 7th day holy, you are certainly welcome to do so. What is not welcome here is the continued pressing on the topic in order to bring people into condemnation for not espousing that day. That is contrary to the clear Word of God in Romans 14:6-13, and is therefore contrary to what Christian-Faith.com represents.
Hobie, I know you desire to bring people to conviction on this day because you see it as a blessing. That is your opinion and if you desire to further it, you may start your own forum. I am not condemning you or your faith.
For those who would like to become holy through the sanctifying work of Jesus Christ and be set free from the bondage of sin that besets and weighs us down, feel free to continue here. We welcome you to make your prayer needs known and read the many topics we have on being set free.

i according to ten commandments murdering (but not being angry), prostitution are sins and that person is under judgement. but Christ told that being angry with ur fellow brother is subjected to judgement and having lust in ur heart is so dangerous. so if we simply go by word there is a lot of possibility that we might fail. if we understand it then we will come to know that not only ten commandments but apart from this there r many many things to follow.
dear Hobie let me ask u a question? just analyze answer it to urself. are u loving others as you love urself?because this is the thing emphasized more in NT. following 10 comm don't make u to love others as urself.(so that israelites failed ) but loving others as urself make u to follow and obey the word of God from ur heart automatically . so pls don't cling to that again.
