Dont feel the spirit of God

Hello my name is Yolanda and I am 26 years old. I have a problem. About a month ago I started to read the bible and I would read post here and so on. Everyday I felt so happy and I felt like if I had the holy spirit in me all day. I would pray and read the bible all the times and be happy and at peace. Then suddently I woke up one morning like 1 week ago and I felt dry, I felt that I didn’t have the spirit on me anymore. I try to read the bible and I can’t concentrate, I try to pray and I can’t concentrate, I start to think of something else thats not even important. I dont know why. I dont know what to do to feel that I have God in my life. Is like if he dissapear on me and I dont know how to find him anymore.

Has this happend to someone, please give me an advice on what to do.

What do YOU think?

  1. When you are young in the boDy of Christ, you don’t always feel the Spirit, this is for a Good reason, we are to rely on God, on his Word. Not a feeling. Yet our relationship is wIth God how The song of songs states or as some call it, The Song of Solomon. He speaks of God as my Lover, He iS tHE Lover of my soul. When you are with him its fresh & new and. So beautiful but he does love so much to play Hide & seek with us. BecaUse he knows tHAt this streNgthens your faith and trust. So This doeS happen many times in life, but you are not abandond, for he is faithful even when we are faithless. Just seek him and you will find him. & let him know that you are trying to understand what message he is sending you. For he is. Omnipresent so he is there you just can’t feel him. Bless you and I hope this helps others. Understand what is happening in their lives. Love in christ Jesus, Annette

  2. Few years back while I was young in faith I too would often feel down in Spirit and wondered where my joy and excitement in the LORD went all of sudden. I have a curving to always feel the Presence of God because I thought that without feeling I could not keep up my joy in the LORD. But as I grew in faith I always feel His Spirit and His joy.

Whenever I felt down in Spirit I prayed to God to take away all my anxieties that the devil tries to make me worry about. I prayed for His joy and peace to come upon me. Through a simple prayer I surrendered my state of emptiness and ask Him to make me whole in Spirit by His love. For first few hours I felt like nothing happened and  I had no desire to read Bible and pray for other things but than I would spent time looking at the creations of God and praising Him, I loved reading astronomy  and wondering about the awesome works of God, I loved observing people and their lives. Because I didn’t feel anything didn’t stop me from glorifying God as these would slowly cover up my emptiness filling me with joy of the LORD. Many times I went through those situations but I did not give up my faith and neither did I give up praising God and so today I am always filled with His Spirit and joy.

Sometimes the turmoil of life makes me overwhelmed but then I try to wake up at night sitting alone outside marveling at wonderful works of God in silence; leaving all my burdens and cares on Him and for His peace to come on me. I have constant joy of the LORD but I cannot deny that pressures of life once in a while for an hour or day take away my peace for which I need to come to the LORD for restoration and I think I need to grow up further in faith to keep up the peace of the LORD in me.

Those 3 steps sound promising. I have been having trouble with the same issues and read your response and will be doing those three steps. I have never really hole-heartedly asked the lord to give me peace before. I to feel that i need to feel the holy spirit in order to believe it.
I hope that when i pray i recieve those answers because i am waaay to confused about the bible.

  4. Thank you this helps alot

I have come across that bump in my spiritual life as well. Realize that God being there isn’t dependent on how you feel in any given day. If you are a Christian and walking in the Lord, God’s presence is always there, that is a fact, not a feeling.
One thing that helped me was more intensive Bible study. Before, I just read through the Bible. Now, I read it, pray over it, ask God to tell me what He wants me to know, and mull over it in the day and night hours. I started to keep a journal and write down what I discover.
Sometimes, it also helps to talk about what you’ve learned to other Christians and discuss it. Other times, I simply talk to God. I invite His presence in my day to day life, and come to Him when I need to make decisions.
But, no matter what, whether I feel good or bad, whether I feel God’s presence or not, and even days when I feel as though I failed, I still come back to God and thank Him for the day. I still read my bible and ask that He speaks to me through His Word, and guess what? He always does.
Just keep seeking God through Bible study and prayer. God is always near.
    ~Peace and Blessings!

  6. My name is Chanell and I’m 24 years old.I know exactly how you feel because I been through similar ordeals in my growth in Jesus Christ. What you have to realize is this. God still loves and care for you even though you dont feel his Spirit. God is still with you even though you don’t feel His presence. Now understand this; Every since you began your walk with Christ, you became the devil’s worst night mare therefore he will try to make you second guess your salvation. Here’s some advice that has worked for me and anyone else who desires to truly follow Jesus Christ our Lord.
    1. Receive the Holy Spirit. [Acts 2] Many people dont understand that the Holy Spirit is needed in their lives to guide them to all truth. You can do this by repenting for all your sins and asking the Holy Spirit to come into yur life and heart with the evidence of speaking in tongues. When you do this, you will know that He, the Holy Spirit, lives in you.If you already have received the Holy Spirit, then TRUST the Lord!
    2. Ask the Lord to give you peace in your heart, mind, body, and soul. Whatever you ask the Lord to do for you, ask in Jesus Christ’s name. [John 14:14 and John 16:23]
    3. Ask the Lord to place in a church that He desires you to be in so that you will grow, worship the Lord and fellowship with other believers.
Keep seeking the Lord and continue to pray and read the Bible.
I hope you will find peace and joy in all of your soul, mind, body, life, and soul. May the Grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you, Yolanda! God bless you!

    • sorry i hit the submit button twice.

    • I agree with most of what you are saying. However I think it may be misleading by saying that the evidence of Tongues means you have the presence of the Holy Spirit in you. That may be a sign however many of us who have accepted Jesus Christ have the indwelling of the HS and do not experience Tongues. In order to receive the HS we must accept Jesus. We cannot ask for the HS without taking Him as our savior. I dont think you meant to say it like that but new Christians may take differently. However you are on the right path and good answer to Yolanda’s question.

I believe in Acts the HS feel upon them, God gave this as evidence of his power. Now when we take Jesus the HS dwells with in us. If you dont feel God’s presence, the best thing Jesus said in John 15 was to abide in him and he will abide in you, apart from him you can do nothing. We have to develop a strong, consistent relationship with him in order for his presence to be effective in our lives. I started out really strong, I could feel peace @ all times. Then one day it started to get rough. I had already taken Jesus and had the HS however it just took a diff turn. I know that when I am lacking in my relationship with him, then I have no peace, Im am irratated with my kids and am frustrated. But when I bible study, I am better. So we need to draw closer to Him and rest in his assurance that he is there. Alot of times we are looking for a miraculous sign but that doesnt always happen. When you draw closer and closer you will know that he is there. God bless.

When we are truly saved, the Holy Spirit is with us; but not until we have an Upper Room experience is the Holy Spirit in us.

        • Im not doubting you but I would love to read that scripture.

          • bornagainbytheblood says:

            Jesus made the distinction.

            John 14
            [16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
[17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

The Holy Spirit was with the disciples at that time, and Jesus said that He would be in them. When did that happen? Pentecost. What was the evidence? Speaking with tongues.

          • What if I dont speak tongues? Does that mean that I dont have the Holy Spirit? I find that hard to believe….I believe that is a part of the evidence that one has the Holy Spirit indwelling, however I dont believe that is the only indication. I dont speak in tongues but I have no doubt that I have the Holy Spirit.

          • It is heresy to say that a person must speak in tongues to be saved, or that only those who speak in tongues have the Holy Spirit. "If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His" (Romans 8).

Multitudes of precious saints of God never spoke in tongues as far as we know, but they walked in faith, love and the fear of God, trusting in the blood of Jesus for their cleansing and salvation.

Repentance and faith are the only conditions of God for salvation.

The flip side to this is that all who desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit and ask for this CAN speak in tongues when they believe it. We are not talking about the "gift of tongues" per se, as in something to give a message to God's people with. Rather, we are talking about tongues as another way to pray to God in the Spirit.

Please see my teaching on the Baptism in the Holy Spirit which explains a lot of these things.

          • Thank you Michael. That cleared somethings up for me. I will read more on the Holy Spirit to get a clearer understanding.

          • bornagainbytheblood says:

One can be saved without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, but one does not have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit without the evidence of speaking in tongues just like on the Day of Pentecost.

            Acts 8
[14] Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
[15] Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
[16] (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
[17] Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

          • bornagainbytheblood says:

Just as myself, one who is saved has a measure of the Holy Spirit with them, but not until we have a true Pentecostal experience do we have the infilling of the Holy Ghost. Jesus said to seek and ye shall receive. We have to keep seeking until we receive the promise — and it takes faith to keep holding on for it. But by no means are we to willfully speaking in tongues! God has nothing to do with that nonsense. I know people who have the real Holy Ghost and they don’t speak in tongues whenever they want to. When seeking the real Holy Ghost baptism, just praise God with all your heart.

            Hi Stephen:>)

It is hard to ignore your posts, for I have tried.

Look at it this way, what would you say to a person off the street that came to you saying that they too wanted to get saved, but you haven’t really been saved yourself, because you haven’t done it the way they think receiving salvation should be done, because they read about Paul being knocked off a horse, blinded by a brilliant light, then having great scales form on his eyes, then receive his sight from an complete stranger. Then insisting that if you haven’t had that experience, then you cannot be truly saved.
Would you then agree with them and seek for that salvation experience of your own, to insure to yourself, you really were saved? (Acts 9:1-20)
Or would you tell them to “get lost”, and to “go get saved yourself, before you start telling someone who is saved, how to get saved.”
If you are so sure that your belief is the correct belief, then exercise your faith, and receive the Holy Spirit.
not just some day, but today, because Jesus said.

            Luk 11:10
For every one that ASKETH RECEIVETH ; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

            Luk 11:13
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: HOW MUCH MORE, SHALL YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER, – – – GIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT, – – – TO THEM THAT ASK HIM?

            Joh 14:13
And whatsoever YE SHALL ASK IN MY NAME, THAT WILL I DO, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
            14) If ye shall ASK ANYTHING IN MY NAME, I WILL DO IT.
            15) If ye love me, keep my commandments.
            16) AND I WILL PRAY THE FATHER, AND HE SHALL GIVE YOU ANOTHER COMFORTER, that he may abide with you for ever;
            17) Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; FOR HE DWELLETH WITH YOU, AND SHALL BE IN YOU.

If you are expecting to have your very own Pentecost experience, just like in the bible, will you have to wait until Pentecost next yr, or can it be any given day? But if you don’t receive the Holy Spirit that day, will you have to wait and tarry at the alter, until 2012 and so on, until you finally do receive?;>(

If I told you there was a pot of gold waiting for you to pick it up, would you wait and pray for it to fall on you, or would to right this minute go pick it up?

Why wait for something , that you do not have to wait for?
            Luk 11:13
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: HOW MUCH MORE, SHALL YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER, – – – GIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT, – – – TO THEM THAT ASK HIM?

Don’t place some mystique on it, God is not requiring you to jump through hoops, to receive something He has already provided for you to have through Jesus Christ. God has not granted you salvation, to then leave you defenseless.

            Psa 81:10
I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

            2Co 10:4
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

Believe me brother, it greaves my spirit, to see you fighting against yourself, not being able to accept the gift God has for you.

“That which I have freely received, I give unto you.” “As your Faith is so let it be unto you.”
“In Jesus name”, “RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT”
now that you have received, SPEAK.
