Can god make a boulder so big he cant move it

There was a question i was asked at Campus Life(youth group) and the question was Since god can do anyting. Can he make a mountain so build that he cant move it.

I said yes because he could not want to move it. i want your opinions.

What do YOU think?

    i was wandering how do you post blogs and that kind of stuff on this site

  2. This brain baffler has been around for ages. Ever since about the time man started asking ridiculous questions.

    Simple answer: Everything God does has PURPOSE. That’s how He works.

    The original question poses an absurdity. A self canceling conundrum. And God does not deal in (nor create) absurdities, as they are without purpose. We are asking in effect, “Can God perform an absurdity?”

    The original question is tantamount to asking “Can God turn a circle into a square?” (And still have it remain a square by definition.) It cancels itself out. It’s simply absurd.

    Will, I’m really glad to see that you are using the site and being active in it. First of all, God cannot do anything. Scripture says He cannot lie, it says He cannot sin or do any evil, so therefore the answer for this is no. He has no dimension, and a boulder does, so in order to make one so big, He would have to make it without dimensions, then it would no longer be a boulder. “Big” is a word we use to describe Him, not necessarily a characteristic that truly fits Him.

    Anyways, these passages are really good ones, and definitely good to struggle with. Hopefully the guys on here can help you out. I struggled with Phil. 2 myself and I can refer you to this page. If anything, I can talk to you this weekend or so about it. Just let me know!

    God bless you Will!

    i am having trouble with these verses.

    Romans 12

    1Therefore (A)I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to (B)present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

    2And do not (C)be conformed to (D)this world, but be transformed by the (E)renewing of your mind, so that you may (F)prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

    3For through (G)the grace given to me I say to everyone among you (H)not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to (I)each a measure of faith.

    4For (J)just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function,

    5so we, (K)who are many, are (L)one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

    6Since we have gifts that (M)differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if (N)prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;

    7if (O)service, in his serving; or he who (P)teaches, in his teaching;

    8or he who (Q)exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with [a](R)liberality; (S)he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with (T)cheerfulness.

    9Let (U)love be without hypocrisy (V)Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.

    10Be (W)devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another (X)in honor;

    11not lagging behind in diligence, (Y)fervent in spirit, (Z)serving the Lord;

    12(AA)rejoicing in hope, (AB)persevering in tribulation, (AC)devoted to prayer,

    13(AD)contributing to the needs of the saints, (AE)practicing hospitality.

    14(AF)Bless those who persecute [b]you; bless and do not curse.

    15(AG)Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

    16(AH)Be of the same mind toward one another; (AI)do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly (AJ)Do not be wise in your own estimation.

    17(AK)Never pay back evil for evil to anyone (AL)Respect what is right in the sight of all men.

    18If possible, (AM)so far as it depends on you, (AN)be at peace with all men.

    19(AO)Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “(AP)VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord.

    21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

    1Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any (A)fellowship of the Spirit, if any (B)affection and compassion,

    2(C)make my joy complete by (D)being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

    3Do nothing from (E)selfishness or (F)empty conceit, but with humility of mind (G)regard one another as more important than yourselves;

    4(H)do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

    5(I)Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in (J)Christ Jesus,

    6who, although He (K)existed in the (L)form of God, (M)did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,

    7but [a](N)emptied Himself, taking the form of a (O)bond-servant, and (P)being made in the likeness of men.

    8Being found in appearance as a man, (Q)He humbled Himself by becoming (R)obedient to the point of death, even (S)death on a cross.

    9(T)For this reason also, God (U)highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him (V)the name which is above every name,

    10so that at the name of Jesus (W)EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of (X)those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

    11and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is (Y)Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

    i know it says to be humble just how are you to do it when this world will not let you

    • Can you clarify the question? I do not understand the part about “the world will not let you” humble yourself. My experience is that the world will not let you exalt yourself. What are your thoughts on that?
