Dead Tradition – Church attendance, hearing messages, giving and not doing bad satisfies God

I want to address a very common misconception we see today in almost all evangelical and pentecostal churches. I cannot speak about Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches in this regard – I imagine it may apply to some of these.

This tradition has it that Church attendance, hearing messages, giving and not doing bad satisfies God.

This is an unspoken tradition. If challenged, many church leaders would deny they believe this. But let us look at it another way.

Dead Traditions that hinder us

While God has some traditions for the church that Paul taught, according to 2 Thessalonians 3:6, there are MANY traditions in the way most churches operate and do things that actually hinder God’s purposes.

If you read something in the New Testament and it contradicts what you think you know about the way God’s people are supposed to operate, you can be sure that your thinking has been influenced by dead tradition.

What does God want from us? In a word, LOVE. He wants our hearts. He wants us to love Him with all our hearts. This means, that we will give him our total focus.

Amanda Berry Smith: God’s Image In Ebony

by Michael Edds

Amanda Berry Smith was born as a slave in Long Green, Maryland near Baltimore in 1837. She was the oldest of thirteen children. To save her from being sold away from her family, her father worked many long late hours to buy her freedom. Amanda’s life was marked by loss and tragedy. Amanda’s first husband died during the Civil War, while serving in an African American military unit. She lost her second husband and all of her children except one to death.

A Prophetic Word For Chicago

by Michael Edds
October 2007
In the year 2000, God spoke to me that He was going to reopen the “old wells” of revival throughout this nation and around the world. The purpose of the Coming Great Awakening is to restore total truth to the church and to give the world one last invitation of mercy before divine judgment falls upon a perverse generation.
In 2004, the Lord gave me a vivid, terrifying dream concerning Chicago. In the dream, I was with a group of dedicated Christians in a suite of rooms in the Sears Tower in downtown Chicago.

I am a pastor in Bush Alaska, you have to fly to where we are, you can not drive or take a boat.

Hello from Western Alaska

Hello all,

May the Lord bless and keep all of you and your ministries.

Whatever Happened to ‘Contentment’?

The good old-fashioned work ethic is something to be celebrated. However there seems to be a tendency today to think that gain is godliness – that material gain is an indicator of a person’s or ministry’s success.

But whatever happened to the contentment ethic? Paul said, “Godliness with contentment is great gain”.

Spiritual Awakening Patterns

Christian History Magazine shared the following powerful information concerning revival….

“Spiritual awakenings manifest patterns that are similar, often strikingly so. While all of the following elements may be present in each instance, for the most part awakenings progress through a cycle whose phases include these various aspects of God’s working.”

It Was Just a Simple Invitation To Pray

It was just a simple invitation to pray that led a small group of people in 1898 to meet on Saturday evenings from 9 to 10 for prayer. They met at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago to cry out for an awakening. Within a short time, the group grew to 300 passionate intercessors. A few members remained to antagonize and intercede into the early hours one Sabbath morning. R. A. Torrey joined this small group to pray for a world – wide revival. During that intense intercession, Torrey asked God to send him around the world.
